Washington has to find their starter at LG soon, and have been trying Wes Martin. The rookie has looked uneven in camp. Backups(and their backups) have been forced into starting roles due to injuries over the last two years. Finding capable depth is a big concern for this team, and they don't seem happy with what they have there.

The team announced the re-signing of OL Tony Bergstrom. He joined the Redskins in 2017, playing in 9 games, starting 3.

Last year Bergstrom saw more playing time due to multiple injuries to the offensive line. He played in 13 games with 8 starts. The former 5th round pick went from being cut and placed on the practice squad his rookie year, to being one of the best penetrating defensive linemen in the league.

The Redskins spent heavy draft capital on their defensive line the last two years. Jonathan Allen and DaRon Payne were taken in the first round, and have solidified a young line for years. There were questions about whether Washington would extend Ioannidis with big contracts expected to come for the Alabama Wall when their rookie deals were up in 3 and 4 years(with 5th year options). The Redskins also double dipped last year by taking Tim Settle in the 5th round.

Ioannidis has been a force inside, but has also been rotated heavily, especially after Payne's arrival last season. He was still able to rack up 7.5 sacks, while playing around 42% of the snaps on defense.

We went to practice and had a little meeting and basically they were like, ‘They’ve dissolved the league.’ It really wasn’t much more to it than that.’

”We did get paid throughout the eight games. They didn’t pay us for those last two games that we didn’t play, and they didn’t pay us the bonus money that they said we were supposed to get. That hasn’t come through yet. They did pay is for those eight games we did play, though.”

Redskins take a chance on a guard

The Redskins made two signings official, and both of them are castoffs from the now defunct Alliance of American Football. The signing of OLB Andrew Arkush has already been reported, but Washington officially announced it yesterday. They also signed guard Salesi Uatefe, who played for the Utah Stallions.

Salesi played college football at Utah. Uhatafe played in all 52 games in his last four seasons after a redshirt freshman year. He was named a Second-Team All-Pac-12 offensive lineman his senior season.

Uhatafe was undrafted in 2018, and the Atlanta Falcons signed him as a free agent before getting cut. He was also briefly on the Detroit Lions’ and Jacksonville Jaguars’ practice squads.
