The Washington Commanders are coming off a loss to the San Francisco 49ers. They have one more game left in the season. Next up is a home game against the Dallas Cowboys. Ron Rivera named Sam Howell the starting QB today. Jacoby Brissett was supposed to get his first start of the season last week but he suffered a hamstring injury last Thursday. He was limited in today’s practice. Brissett was the emergency 3rd-string QB last week, and could have that same role again on Sunday with Jake Fromm backing up Howell.

Two players that usually receive vet rest days didn’t practice today. DT Jonathan Allen is usually listed with a foot injury from the plantar fasciitis he has been dealing with since training camp. It was reported today that he didn’t practice due to injury. Ron Rivera confirmed that it was a knee injury that kept Allen off the field today. CB Kendall Fuller has been getting rest days for his knee, but that injury kept him on the inactive list for last week’s loss to the 49ers.

There were two other players that didn’t practice today, and both of them were injured in last week’s game while filling in for other injured players. CBs Tariq Castro-Fields(shoulder) and Christian Holmes(concussion) both missed practice today. Holmes suffered a scary concussion where he collapsed right after a play. Initial reports said he was ok, but he remains in the concussion protocol. Benjamin St-Juste was in the concussion protocol last week, but returned to practice on a limited participation today. Rookie DB Quan Martin was also limited with a chest injury.

Washington lost LT Charles Leno, Jr. and C Tyler Larsen for the season last week when they were placed on IR. They were replaced in the lineup by Cornelius Lucas and Nick Gates respectively. RT Andrew Wylie(elbow) didn’t play on Sunday, but was a limited participant in practice today. Trent Scott replaced him last week, and would likely get the start again in the season finale.

DT John Ridgeway has been on the injury report for weeks with a foot injury, but continues to play on gamedays.
