The Washington Commanders enter Week 17 coming off a road loss to the New York Jets. They return home this week to face the San Francisco 49ers for a Sunday New Year’s Eve game. The Commanders opened the week as 13 1⁄2 -point home underdogs, and that line dropped a point after Jacoby Brissett was named the starter this week.
The 49ers are 11-4, and they’re one of the best team’s in the NFL. They got embarrassed at home on Christmas night by the Baltimore Ravens, losing 33-19. QB Brock Purdy was in the MVP conversation until his 4-interception stinker against the Ravens defense. There will be a lot of motivation for San Francisco to come back to Washington and show the NFL why they’re still a top team. The 49ers have several former players and coaches who always have this game circled, and Chase Young was added to that group at the trade deadline this year.
Washington has two games left, and their playoff chances are long gone with their 4-11 record. They are currently projected to have the 3th overall pick in the draft, and will be going through some major changes this offseason. Sam Howell’s development was supposed to be the biggest positive of this season, but that has crashed and burned with his benchings in three consecutive weeks. Jacoby Brissett will take over the offense, and try to close out the season on a positive note.
