The Washington Commanders announced they are elevating two players from their practice squad for tomorrow’s home game against the New York Giants. RB Derrick Gore and DE Joshua Pryor are both getting the call up due to injuries from last week’s game. FB/TE Alex Armah and DE James Smith-Williams both suffered hamstring injuries during a loss to the Seattle Seahawks last week, and they have been ruled out for tomorrow’s game. RB Antonio Gibson showed up on the injury report this week with a toe injury, and didn’t practice all week. He is listed as doubtful, and is not expected to play.
The Washington Commanders placed an unsuccessful waiver claim on former New York Jets RB Michael Carter, but Sam Howell’s former college teammate went to the Arizona Cardinals instead. John Keim said that Washington was hoping to have Gibson available when they put the claim in, but his toe did not respond as the week progressed. Washington will now have Brian Robinson, rookie Chris Rodriguez, and Gore available.
It was reported earlier in the week that the team planned on elevating DE Joshua Pryor for the Giants game. That was a bad sign for James Smith-Williams availability, and Washington made it official today. Pryor is a 6’4”, 280 lb undrafted free agent from Bowie State. This will be his first elevation from the practice squad. He will join starters Casey Toohill and Efe Obada, along with fellow rookies KJ Henry and Andre Jones, Jr.
