The Washington Commanders held their final full practice today as they prepare to host the New York Giants for their rematch. Washington lost to them a month ago, but the teams will look a lot different on both sides for the rematch.
Washington has ruled FB/TE Alex Armah and DE James Smith-Williams out for Sunday’s game. Both players suffered hamstring injuries last week, and didn’t practice this week. Armah has been active on game days over Cole Turner and Curtis Hodges, and Turner could return to the active list vs the Giants. Smith-Williams moved into a starting role after the trades of Chase Young and Montez Sweat. His absence will shake up the depth chart again. Efe Obada stepped up last week, and will get the start again vs the Giants. DE Joshua Pryor will reportedly be elevated from the practice squad, and join rookies KJ Henry and Andre Jones Jr. as depth. Casey Toohill start on the other side, as DC Jack Del Rio continues to look for ways to pressure the quarterback.
Curtis Samuel was limited this week with a toe injury, but he got a full practice in today. He has not injury designation for Sunday’s game and is expected to be available for Eric Bieniemy and Sam Howell. Antonio Gibson popped up on the injury report this week with a toe injury, and didn’t practice. He is listed as doubtful, which means he’s most likely not going to play. Gibson has dealt with turf toe before, and it is a tough injury for running backs to return from quickly. Rookie RB Chris Rodriguez would get more action if Gibson is sidelined, and Derrick would be elevated from the practice squad as the 3rd RB/special teams player.
