Dustin Hopkins has had more headlines about him than any kicker should during the preseason this year. He missed 3 kicks over 3 games and fans are once again calling for his head.
Washington drafted new long snapper Camaron Cheeseman and the specialists are still working on their timing. Ron Rivera has publicly backed Hopkins, saying he got hot last year after struggling, and talking about the timing/familiarity issues.
Last year Washington had two different kickers(Brett Maher, Kaare Vedvik on their practice squad throughout the season, and Rivera did talk about bringing in competition at Kicker. Hopkins bounced back and returned on a 1-year deal for $2.46 million.
Today the Washington Football Team announced they have signed K Eddie Pineiro to the practice squad. The team had two open spots available, and now have some insurance and possible competition for Hopkins.
Pieneiro kicked for the Chicago Bears in 2019. He was 23 for 28(82.1%) with a long of 53 yards. He was 27 for 29(93.1%) on extra points. He suffered a groin injury last year during training camp and was placed on injured reserve.
