Washington only signed one undrafted free agent after this year's draft, RB Jaret Patterson. The rookie was a long-shot to make the team, and unseat 1-2 yard specialist Peyton Barber, but that'swhat happened after a solid training camp and preseason.
The team released Barber during the 53-man roster cuts down on Tuesday, but signed him to the practice squad the following day when he cleared waivers. Washington's coached liked Barber, and his reliability at picking up the needed yards.
It is always a risk to try to stash players you like on the practice squad, and that became apparent today with Barber being poached by the Las Vegas Raiders. They placed RB Jalen Richard on IR yesterday with a foot injury, and needed a 3rd RB behind Josh Jacobs and Kenyan Drake.
This leaves Washington with only 3 RBs under contract(Antonio Gibson, J.D. McKissic, and Jaret Patterson). Jonathan Williams was with the team last year, and all through this offseason. He was released along with Barber on Tuesday, but wasn't signed to the practice squad. Washingtonnow had two open spots available and will likely fill one of them with another RB.
Washington now without any RB on the PS. Two spots open should it look to add one. https://t.co/TakqfyXHou
