✔️ Defensive-minded head coach.
— Grant Paulsen (@granthpaulsen) September 27, 2021
✔️ Proven, successful defensive coordinator.
✔️ 1st round defender in 5 straight drafts.
✔️ 7 of 9 highest-paid players on that side of ball.
Washington ranks 31st on third down D; 58.7 percent conversion rate. And that includes a 4-12 showing in Week 2. that means vs. Herbert and Allen they have allowed 23-of-34 third downs -- and two of those "stops" were end-game kneel downs. Brutal.

Rivera said Chase Young has had some good rushes. Also said, "Has to understand what his strengths are and attack with his strengths because he can be a disruptive player."
— John Keim (@john_keim) September 27, 2021
Rivera said he wants to see less stutter-stepping; get off and go. "When he is moving, he is a force."
Similar to Montez Sweat in his rookie year. Went to that stutter move too much, took away from his burst and threat to the edge. Sweat still uses it, but more often defaults to long-arm, which suits his skillset much more.
— Mark Bullock (@MarkBullockNFL) September 27, 2021
Chase Young's 6 pressures and 4 hurries yesterday were season highs. The fact that he had his best statistical pass-rushing game of the season and wasn't impactful is an issue. #WashingtonFootball
— Grant Paulsen (@granthpaulsen) September 27, 2021
Good examples of this are the 1st TD to Sanders and the TD to Moss.
— Mark Bullock (@MarkBullockNFL) September 27, 2021
I'd add that Washington had plenty of individual pressures (Payne was good), but not enough from unit together. Payne often got pressure but Josh Allen could step up/out to avoid him & nobody else cleaned up https://t.co/0RRKkNexUy
I'm not sure I've ever seen DaRon Payne dominate his one-on-one matchup more than he did yesterday. @PFF gave him 11 pressures and 9 hurries and my eyeballs during the game agree with those outrageous numbers.
— Grant Paulsen (@granthpaulsen) September 27, 2021
The problem was that Allen would slide away from him to safety.
DL for sure needs to play better, especially the DEs, but there is a lot of bad stuff going on behind them too. Again, DL needs to improve, but would need a few Aaron Donald's to make up for whats happening behind them right now
— Mark Bullock (@MarkBullockNFL) September 27, 2021
Josh Allen held the ball from snap to throw at the 7th highest rate in the league yesterday. His throws traveled the 2nd furthest rate on average.
— Grant Paulsen (@granthpaulsen) September 27, 2021
Yesterday was not a "quick game" issue. #Bills #WashingtonFootball
Curtis Samuel is eligible to come off IR this week... Rivera said, "We'll see how it goes Wednesday. Our offensive coaches are fired up to see where he is. If he has a good day Wednesday, we'll progress and go forward."
— John Keim (@john_keim) September 27, 2021
Key will be how his groin responds to any work. As you know
Antonio Gibson's touchdown reception was the second-longest touchdown reception by a running back in Washington history

Anyone wanna hear a positive stat?
— Tae & Todd Washington Football Podcast (@TaeNToddPodcast) September 27, 2021
Washington has only allowed 3 sacks through 3 games. They're on pace to allow 16 on the season.#WashingtonFootball
Taylor Heinicke has the 7⃣th-fastest release time (2.52 second), 1⃣1⃣th-best passer rating (104.4) and 7⃣th-best completion rate (73.8%)
— Zach Selby (@ZachSelbyWFT) September 24, 2021
All that has come from Heinicke working out of the pocket.https://t.co/N0pw02Jhpc

Going to get out in front of this. I think Washington wins.
The #Falcons open up as a 1-point favorite over #WashingtonFootball.

Been wondering if someone would take a shot on Martin. No room on the 53 here, and while he struggled as a starter last season, Martin probably has the goods to be an option for someone. Giants need help. https://t.co/K6EVwo8S1m

Pressed on why he's sticking with OC Jason Garrett, Giants coach Joe Judge said "We’re going to stay on the track and make sure we get things right before we make any radical changes."

The Giants (John Mara) should hire an outside consulting firm to assess their deep-rooted organizational problems that have been lingering for the last five years. Firing a coach, GM or anyone will never solve the problem, until they learn what is the problem.

— Football Perspective (@fbgchase) September 27, 2021
Fun fact: Justin Tucker and Tom Dempsey both hit GWs over the Lions to win 19-17.
Other fun fact: Dempsey's still the only K to hit from his team's own territory!https://t.co/RsevP46Z18
It's interesting listening to Alex Smith on ESPN now on playing early, "I really felt like it set me back. ... My first start, it was a disaster, I had no business being out there." Adds he saw benefits Kaepernick and Mahomes got from sitting.

The @eagles entered tonight as only the 3rd team of the Super Bowl Era with 0 giveaways and 0 takeaways in their first 2 games of a season and they had one of each on back to back snaps.
