LIVE: Coach Rivera speaks to the media after practice https://t.co/mKfNKSt9Zh
— Washington Football Team (@WashingtonNFL) September 21, 2021
Bills HC Sean McDermott:
Ron Rivera at the mic after practice. Said the Bills and Sean McDermott have been very methodical in rebuilding the team. It’s similar to what Rivera and McDermott, who were under Andy Reid in 1999, did with the Eagles, and the evidence shows it works.
— Zach Selby (@ZachSelbyWFT) September 21, 2021
Rivera said McDermott sticks to his plans very well, but he’s willing to adapt. He was very fortunate to have McDermott on his staff as a DC in Carolina, he said.

Rebuilding process:
Rivera on where Washington is at in the process he and McDermott learned under Andy Reid: we’re trending. It might not always look the way people want, but as long as the team is growing, that’s the priority.

Leslie Frazier:
Practice over....Rivera time. Says Leslie Frazier did in fact get him into coaching and Frazier tried to hire him a few times. They ended up on the same staff with Andy Reid. "I have a lot of history with him." #WashingtonFootball @wtop
— George Wallace (@GWallaceWTOP) September 21, 2021
Ron Rivera goes deeper on Leslie Frazier saying he convinced Rivera to get into coaching. Rivera said that Frazier reached out to him a couple of times, and when he did end up getting back into they ended up on the Eagles staff with Andy Reid together

Jamin Davis:
Rivera on Jamin Davis learning the MIKE: "Some of the things we ask him to do are new to him." He said Davis played well against the Giants.

Cam Sims:
Rivera said Washington needs to get Cam Sims on the field a little more: "That's the truth of the matter." He compares it to using J.D. McKissic more in Week 2 after a smaller role in Week 1.
— Matthew Paras (@Matthew_Paras) September 21, 2021
Ron Rivera on Cam Sims: "We got to get him on the field a little bit more. ... Those first couple of games are learning experiences just as much for us. We know who we have, but let's make sure we're using [them]."
— Nicki Jhabvala (@NickiJhabvala) September 21, 2021
Learning experiences:
Rivera said the first two weeks are just as much learning experiences for the coaches as the players. Clear example: look at how many players on offense touched the ball between Weeks 1 and 2.

Taylor Heinicke:
@PeteHaileyNBCS gets hit with the day's first "that's interesting" from Ron Rivera, when he asks about Taylor Heinicke playing his first road game for Washington.

Taunting penalties:
Ron Rivera on taunting: “We’re all for celebrations. Remember, we (Carolina) were the 2015 team that everyone was mad at for dabbing and taking pictures on the sideline. … We’re trying to stop from having a brawl on our hands.” pic.twitter.com/vsC0jt6ZgC
— Nicki Jhabvala (@NickiJhabvala) September 21, 2021
Rivera said he's all for celebrating on the field, but the intent of the taunting emphasis is to prevent retribution on the field: "The idea behind the taunting (rule) is to prevent the bigger thing. ... They're just trying to get it quieted down."
— Matthew Paras (@Matthew_Paras) September 21, 2021
.@RiverboatRonHC with a smart, terrific answer on taunting --
— Chris Russell AKA The Rooster (@Russellmania621) September 21, 2021
"The idea behind the tauniting rule is to prevent the bigger things." He further adds that "you can do the celebrations" and is a big proponet of celebration in right way. "We are examples. We're role models."
Buffalo Bills:
Ron Rivera calls this week's meeting with the 2020 AFC finalist Buffalo Bills a "measuring stick." game. "You measure yourself to the great teams."
