Well, that final pre-season game was a total stinker, but at least it solidifies pretty clearly the direction that the roster will be headed. Below are my projections for the Washington Football Team’s final 53-man roster, which will have to be struck in the next couple of days.

Offense (25):
QB (2):
Ryan Fitzpatrick - Fitz has the starting role locked up.
Taylor Heinicke - I was willing to entertain the possibility that Kyle Allen could compete for QB2 based on his game against the Ravens. His performance in the final pre-season game convinces me he’ll be just fine on the practice squad.
RB (3):
Antonio Gibson - I expect Gibson is going to look even more special in his sophomore season than he did last year.
JD McKissic - McKissic was one of the best receiving RBs in the league last year.
Jaret Patterson - Patterson wasn’t great against the Ravens, but he was better than Peyton Barber. I think Barber goes to the PS, where he should be safe from poaching.
TE (3):
Logan Thomas - TE1.
John Bates - The rookie looks solid. I expect a growth year in 2021.
Sammis Reyes - I originally thought Reyes was headed for the PS. Somehow, none of the vet TEs brought in to challenge him looked better than he did.
OL (10):
This is one of the deepest OL’s in recent team memory. Being parsimonious at QB, RB, and TE allows the team to carry 10 on the line.
Charles Leno
Wes Schweitzer
Chase Roullier
Brandon Scherff
Sam Cosmi
Cornelius Lucas
Ereck Flowers
Tyler Larsen
Saahdiq Charles
David Sharpe
WR (7):
The top 5 are locks. I think AGG played his way onto the roster in games 2 and 3. Deandre Carter is kept for punt returns. Dax Milne goes to the PS.
Terry McLaurin
Curtis Samuel
Dyami Brown
Adam Humphries
Cam Sims
Antonio Gandy-Golden
Deandre Carter

Defense (25):
DE (4):
I think WBK won this spot in the pre-season. Both he and JSW will benefit tremendously from the tutelage of two of the best in the game.
Montez Sweat
Chase Young
James Smith-Williams
William Bradley-King
DT (4):
This group is 4 starting caliber players.
Jon Allen
Daron Payne
Tim Settle
Matt Ioannidis
LB (6):
The linebacking corps is one of the most shallow on the team. I wouldn’t be surprised to see a player not currently on the team unseat one of the backend guys.
Jamin Davis
Cole Holcomb
Jon Bostic
Khaleke Hudson
David Mayo
Jared Norris
CB (6):
McTyer impressed this preseason and played his way onto the team. Apke looks better at CB than S, but let’s hope he’s primarily playing as a gunner.
William Jackson III
Kendall Fuller
Benjamin St-Juste
Jimmy Moreland
Torry McTyer
Troy Apke
S (5):
Everett and Reaves here are solid depth, and key personnel on special teams.
Landon Collins
Kamren Curl
Bobby McCain
Deshazor Everett
Jeremy Reaves

Special Teams (3):
We need kicking competition in next year’s camp, but this year, we’re locked in.
Dustin Hopkins (K)
Tress Way (P)
Camaron Cheeseman (LS)
Practice Squad:
Among those who I think will make the PS are:
- Dax Milne
- Derrick Forrest
- Shaka Toney
- Isaiah Wright
- Kyle Allen
- Stephen Montez
- Caleb Wilson
- David Steinmetz
- Beau Benzschawel
- David Wise
- David Bada
- Keith Ismael
