It was pouring rain when practice started on Monday, so, according to coach Rivera, the decision was made to hold Curtis Samuel out of practice despite him being healthy. The coach said he was just being cautious.
On a day when Ron Rivera’s remarks to Albert Breer were making headlines across the nation’s sports pages, Rivera addressed his concerns about how vaccination information is being disseminated. Here are some of his comments from his interview with Breer:
“Gen Z is relying on this,” Rivera told Breer, referring to a phone. “And you got some, quite frankly, fucking assholes that are putting a bunch of misinformation out there, leading people to die. That’s frustrating to me, that these people are allowed to have a platform. And then, one specific news agency, every time they have someone on, I’m not a doctor, but the vaccines don’t work. Or I’m not an epidemiologist, but vaccines are going to give you a third nipple and make you sterile. Come on. That, to me? That should not be allowed.”
His frustration seems to be growing, or at least the coach is becoming more publicly vocal about it.
Coach also talked about DB Benjamin St-Juste, QB Kyle Allen, and defensive coverage techniques.
Three more players need to be trimmed from the roster by 4pm on Tuesday, but that was not a topic for today’s press conference.

Practicing in the rain
Ron Rivera said he wanted to take advantage of the rain today so he decided to practice out there. But he noted the field conditions "were excellent."

Rivera time. Had the team practice in the rain because -- wait for it -- they will play in poor conditions at time this season. Also, the new turf held up and then some. Players weren't slipping.

Ryan Fitzpatrick
Ron Rivera says one of the things Ryan Fitzpatrick is doing is leading his receivers, throwing the ball to the place they're supposed to be

Rivera says Fitzpatrick is making progress in his eyes because he's throwing with better anticipation & before guys flash.#WashingtonFootball @team980 @LockedWFTPod

Curtis Samuel
Curtis Samuel was held out of team drills again because of rain & ramping up, says Ron Rivera. He was working on side field & then came over late. #WashingtonFootball @team980 @LockedWFTPod

Curtis Samuel was held out of practice today simply because of the rain. Ron Rivera was very clear that Samuel only missed due to the weather and NOT because of any health setbacks

Vaccines
The topic of the vaccine resurfaces today as Rivera explains why he's talked to the team about misinformation in society at large: "You get concerned that we're sliding backwards."

Ben Juice
Ron Rivera said he see’s a little Charles ‘Peanut’ Tillman in Benji St-Juste. That’s a nice compliment because Tillman was a heck of a player. #WFT #WashingtonFootballTeam @SportsJourney pic.twitter.com/Ii4WhhF5yF

Preseason snaps for Kyle Allen
Ron Rivera said if everything falls in place nicely for Kyle Allen, he may see some time in Friday's game. The main goal is just getting him healthy, first and foremost

DB coverage techniques
Rivera says their techniques in man coverage are to play thru receiver with eyes as opposed to most man techniques which is to have your back to QB. It's a process.#WashingtonFootball @team980 @LockedWFTPod
