Attendance
Initial attendance update: Still not seeing Curtis Samuel, Jimmy Moreland, Jon Bostic, J.D. McKissic. Tim Settle here but not dressed.
— Ben Standig (@BenStandig) June 9, 2021
Not seeing Antonio Gandy-Golden out here, he notices 90 minutes later.
— Ben Standig (@BenStandig) June 9, 2021
Tight Ends
It’s a really small thing, but I like how Sammis is right behind Logan Thomas in line during drills. Remember Pete Hoener sees Thomas as a Top 7 TE, and I think this speaks a little to how Sammis is how eager Sammis is to watch and learn. pic.twitter.com/dcjbA4LFb1

Running backs

Defensive backs
Feel like the DBs don’t get enough love on the TL, so here’s the secondary going through some drills. pic.twitter.com/3Ay0BK6VW0

Defense vs Offense
Defense dominating the first session of 11v11. Sure there’s no hitting but the D Line looks much quicker and stronger than the OLine group
— JP Finlay (@JPFinlayNBCS) June 9, 2021
Montez Sweat
— WASHINGTON FOOTBALL (@HogsHaven) June 9, 2021
On the first play of team drills, Montez Sweat batted down a pass from Fitzpatrick. Rivera was talking about Chase yesterday, but I’m reminded what he said about impact being more than just sack numbers. How disruptive those two are is a better indication of the development.
— Zach Selby (@ZachSelbyWFT) June 9, 2021
A good back and forth between the offense and defense today. Sweat batted Fitzpatrick’s pass, and McLaurin said something along the lines of “that would have been a touchdown too.”
— Matthew Paras (@Matthew_Paras) June 9, 2021
Then Taylor Heinicke just hit Kelvin Harmon on a bomb
Taylor Heinicke ——> Kelvin Harmon
Heinicke with a beautiful ball down the sideline to Harmon. Best play of the day. Tight coverage too.
— JP Finlay (@JPFinlayNBCS) June 9, 2021
Kelvin Harmon, back from an ACL injury that sidelined him for all of last season, just had a beautiful diving catch along the right sideline. Heinicke as QB.
— Nicki Jhabvala (@NickiJhabvala) June 9, 2021
Oh. My. Goodness. Kelvin Harmon just caught a bomb from Heinicke with a receiver running with him in stride. This coaching staff was excited for Harmon before his injury. It’ll be interesting to see what he does during training camp.
— Zach Selby (@ZachSelbyWFT) June 9, 2021
Kelvin Harmon doing a nice job showing off the hands and wheels. Taylor Heinicke threw up a toss up along the right sideline.
— Rhiannon Walker (@InstantRHIplay) June 9, 2021
Harmon accelerated, had coverage draped over him and still made the difficult catch. A lot of applause for the receiver
Taylor Heinicke ——> Dyami Brown
And Heinicke starts his portion of team drills off with a couple of deep shots to Dyami Brown. The first one was a catch. The second one was just a little bit out of his reach.
— Zach Selby (@ZachSelbyWFT) June 9, 2021
Ryan Fitzpatrick ——> Adam Humphries
Another nice operation from Fitzpatrick and Humphries, who beat his man for a touchdown. I feel like a lot of people forget about Humphries with all the talent at WR, but he has been one of the better slot guys for some time. Might emerge as a piece WAS relies on a lot.
— Zach Selby (@ZachSelbyWFT) June 9, 2021
Antonio Gibson
Well, I’m here to tell y’all Antonio Gibson is looking better than last year. Just had a huge run on the left side. Great cut, and hit the afterburner to get 15+ on the play
— Rhiannon Walker (@InstantRHIplay) June 9, 2021
Confirmed: Antonio Gibson, the former receiver, can still catch passes quite well.
— Nicki Jhabvala (@NickiJhabvala) June 9, 2021
That’s all.
Antonio Gibson just caught a pass from Fitzpatrick over Deshazor Everett. Gibson started team drills with three consecutive plays, all resulting in positive gains.
— Zach Selby (@ZachSelbyWFT) June 9, 2021
Antonio Gibson getting more into his wide receiver bag. We talk about his speed so much. He actually had to peel back, to wait for a Ryan Fitzpatrick pass. Stopped on a dime, caught Cole Holcomb by surprise, and hauled it in.
— Rhiannon Walker (@InstantRHIplay) June 9, 2021
Chase Young
Imagine running a fake, and you turn around to realize not only was Chase Young not fooled but is in your face. That’s what just happened to Ryan Fitzpatrick, but he was somehow able to get that ball out his hands. I have no clue how, Young was right there with arms extended
— Rhiannon Walker (@InstantRHIplay) June 9, 2021
Andddddd, Chase Young just switched it up beating Cornelius Lucas inside for what would be a sack of Ryan Fitzpatrick.
— Rhiannon Walker (@InstantRHIplay) June 9, 2021
Next play, Young accidentally put a lick on Logan Thomas. Thomas walked from the play, andYoung went over to check on him
Chase Young is the hype man you never knew you needed.
— Nicki Jhabvala (@NickiJhabvala) June 9, 2021
Defensive assignments
Some defense observations:
— Matthew Paras (@Matthew_Paras) June 9, 2021
- Yesterday it was Deshazor, today it’s Bobby McCain at free safety.
- With Jimmy Moreland out, Darryl Roberts getting reps in nickel, keeping Curl at safety.
- Holcomb and Davis your LBs
Wide receiver rotations
Receiver rotations are a bit all over the place, but I think it’s notable that DeAndre Carter is getting snaps ahead of Steven Sims. Especially since Rivera highlighted Carter as a potential punt returner
— Matthew Paras (@Matthew_Paras) June 9, 2021
Flag on the play
Offense doing red zone drills. Needed to go back to the huddle. Montez Sweat starts yelling “no second chances in the game, that’s a five-yard penalty.” Chase Young threw a towel like a flag. Was funny moment.
— JP Finlay (@JPFinlayNBCS) June 9, 2021
Taylor Heinicke
Yes, Heinicke has some awesome moments, but River said yesterday that a plus for him is that he knows when not to improvise. We just saw an example of that. Neither of his options were open, so he wisely threw the ball out of bounds.
— Zach Selby (@ZachSelbyWFT) June 9, 2021
Heinicke has been impressive with how quick he processes and anticipates the play developing. He has looked good so far in minicamp. He’s already had a couple of big plays today.
— Lake Lewis Jr (@LakeLewis) June 9, 2021
CB Troy Apke
QB Kyle Allen threw a corner end zone fade to TE Sammis Reyes and CB Troy Apke broke it up. Washington Football Team minicamp MadLibs.
— Sam Fortier (@Sam4TR) June 9, 2021
Cam Sims
And yet another really good play from Sims. Just made a sideline catch with two defenders all over him. https://t.co/iBkMsdhyR9
— Zach Selby (@ZachSelbyWFT) June 9, 2021
Can Sims has had a pair of impressive catches where he had to seriously concentrate and use strong hands at the point of attack.
— Rhiannon Walker (@InstantRHIplay) June 9, 2021
William Jackson III was in coverage for both catches. Sims just made a better catch, but the coverage was there
Benjamin St-Juste
Oh my goodness, Ben St. Juste just made a beautiful break on the ball on the right sideline. Had it in his hands and couldn’t finish the pick. Great defensive play, read it the whole way
— Rhiannon Walker (@InstantRHIplay) June 9, 2021
St-Juste is out here making plays. He’s long and has really good ball instincts. A quiet practice has become more competitive.
— Lake Lewis Jr (@LakeLewis) June 9, 2021
He just went up with McLaurin and broke up another in the end zone. He is scorching hot today https://t.co/OEGV3NrGHb
— Pete Hailey (@PeteHaileyNBCS) June 9, 2021
St-Juste’s size is legit. He uses it very well and can keep up with receivers
— Matthew Paras (@Matthew_Paras) June 9, 2021
Another huge break up by @Benj_Juice today. Think that's three at least in latest team period on Dyami...Whoaaa! If he can show this when it counts..@team980 @LockedWFTPod @WSHFootballSI #WashingtonFootball
— Chris Russell AKA The Rooster (@Russellmania621) June 9, 2021
Ben St. Juste with a great defensive play the last rep of the period. Free ply for the offense, because defense came offsides. By St. Juste stuck with Dyami Brown, waited for the toss up to get there, then made sure Brown never had a chance to haul it in.
— Rhiannon Walker (@InstantRHIplay) June 9, 2021
Chase Young loved it
Ben St. Juste just did the AI over Tyronn Lue to Terry McLaurin. Ryan Fitzpatrick tossed up a high ball to McLaurin.
— Rhiannon Walker (@InstantRHIplay) June 9, 2021
McLaurin went up, and St. Juste swiped it down to force the break up. Rookie is having a strong day
Rookie CB Benjamin St-Juste jumped up for a 50-50 ball against Terry McLaurin in the end zone, knocked it away as McLaurin landed, then stared over him as the defense erupted in celebration.
— Nicki Jhabvala (@NickiJhabvala) June 9, 2021
Jeremy Reaves
The defensive sideline is really getting into two-minute drills. Reaves had a nice recover and broke up a pass to Lamar Miller. Earned a lot of praise from his teammates.
— Zach Selby (@ZachSelbyWFT) June 9, 2021
Next play, Taylor Heinicke looks like he has an easy completion to the RB who leaked out of the backfield. Lofted it up, and Jeremy Reaves was able to recover and break up the pass. Well done getting back into the play
— Rhiannon Walker (@InstantRHIplay) June 9, 2021
I’ll say this, these safeties are gonna have their kill shots at the QBs this season. They’ve dialed it up several times today
— Rhiannon Walker (@InstantRHIplay) June 9, 2021
Steven Sims Jr.
Steven Sims with a very nice catch along the left. Jeremy Reaves coming on a safety blitz, Taylor Heinicke recognized he need the ball out and delivered a nice ball to Sims, who brought it in
— Rhiannon Walker (@InstantRHIplay) June 9, 2021
Kamren Curl
Kam Curl is flying around making plays. Breaks up a ball Ryan Fitzpatrick intended for John Bates.
