Scott Turner
Ryan Fitzpatrick:
Scott Turner is addressing the media now. He said Ryan Fitzpatrick has a wealth of knowledge. It's been great for the two to discuss the scheme, and being able to do that has been invaluable.
— Zach Selby (@ZachSelbyWFT) June 3, 2021
Taylor Heinicke:
Scott Turner on this play: "I know Taylor...If he's in that situation, he's diving for the pylon again." https://t.co/ToEvIEq0cS
— Ethan Cadeaux (@Ethan_Cadeaux) June 3, 2021
Turner chuckled at Taylor Heinicke saying he would run out of bounds now rather than dive for the end zone as he did vs. TB in the playoffs. "If he's in that situation again, he's diving for the pylon again," Turner said. He was glad to see TH get bigger; can protect self better
— John Keim (@john_keim) June 3, 2021
Taylor Heinicke: Next time I'll go out of bounds instead of diving for the pylon
— Ben Standig (@BenStandig) June 3, 2021
Scott Turner: Yeah, right. He's diving.
Turner said they did tell Heinicke they know he can play so no need to take unnecessary risks when it comes to getting hit.
Quarterbacks:
Turner said WAS is training all the QBs to be ready when their number is called, even though he would rather not play with four like they did last year. So, he wants to focus on simple yet significant things like making good decisions and throwing accurate passes.
— Zach Selby (@ZachSelbyWFT) June 3, 2021
Washington OC Scott Turner said the backup QB job is "very important" and cited two things he's looking for — things he's mentioned multiple times in the past too — good decision-making and accuracy.
— Nicki Jhabvala (@NickiJhabvala) June 3, 2021
Working the scheme to the players:
Turner: We added a lot of talent to the roster. That's always been the goal.
— Zach Selby (@ZachSelbyWFT) June 3, 2021
Turner said they'll continue to work the scheme around the players they have. They have a lot of work to do to figure out what and who they want to be.
Curtis Samuel:
More on Samuel: he's effective everywhere, and Turner feels like he can make more plays downfield.
— Zach Selby (@ZachSelbyWFT) June 3, 2021
Wide receivers:
Turner said all the WR group has a lot more talent now. They'll have to compete, and he doesn't really mean for a roster spot. Instead, he's talking about competing for opportunities to make plays on the field.
— Zach Selby (@ZachSelbyWFT) June 3, 2021
Big plays:
Washington OC Scott Turner: "We just need to be more explosive. We need to create more big plays, and if we do that, everything else kind of takes care of itself."
— Nicki Jhabvala (@NickiJhabvala) June 3, 2021
Even if unsuccessful -- it's the attempts and the threat that opened up things for the often limited horizontal attack in second half of season. https://t.co/UBjSSWwtQv
— Chris Russell AKA The Rooster (@Russellmania621) June 3, 2021
Sam Cosmi:
Turner said Sam Cosmi's speed speaks to his athleticism. You need to be a good athlete if you're going to play on the edge, he said, and having that speed and quickness will help him hold his own against pass rushers.
— Zach Selby (@ZachSelbyWFT) June 3, 2021
Sammis Reyes:
OC Scott Turner on TE Sammis Reyes: "He's a very intelligent guy, but this is all new to him" -- including blocking technique, play calls and the rules of football. Turner said he's a good athlete and working hard.
— Sam Fortier (@Sam4TR) June 3, 2021
Norv Turner:
Scott Turner says Sammis Reyes is making progress despite the drops that we've seen. He's dealing with a lot.
— Chris Russell AKA The Rooster (@Russellmania621) June 3, 2021
Said it was great to have his Dad, Norv, back & it would have happened last year.
Sounds like Norv is essentially taking on the Mike to Kyle Shanahan unofficial gig.
Kyle Allen
Ankle injury/recovery:
Kyle Allen is now addressing the media. He's been recovering from his ankle and he's been feeling good. He's never had an injury like this, so everything is still new. He's happy with the way he feels right now, even though he still has some work to do.
— Zach Selby (@ZachSelbyWFT) June 3, 2021
Kyle Allen said he didn't want to put a timeline on his recovery, but that his goal was to be able to practice at this point and be back on the field.
— Nicki Jhabvala (@NickiJhabvala) June 3, 2021
QB Kyle Allen said he's happy with his rehab from the broken ankle he suffered last Oct. but he's still not 100 percent. He didn't want to put a timeline on full recovery.
— Sam Fortier (@Sam4TR) June 3, 2021
Kyle Allen says he's still not 100 percent from his broken ankle, but he was determined to be on the field this spring. Still a slight limp. Was upbeat about how he had played before being hurt.
— John Keim (@john_keim) June 3, 2021
Kyle Allen said his goal to be full-go by training camp. "I think it's very doable," he said.
— Nicki Jhabvala (@NickiJhabvala) June 3, 2021
Ryan Fitzpatrick:
Allen said Ryan Fitzpatrick has been awesome. He's seen and done so much in his career, and he's just fun to be around.
— Zach Selby (@ZachSelbyWFT) June 3, 2021
Allen said Fitzpatrick has come to him and Taylor Heinicke with questions on learning the scheme. It's a rare moment for a 38-year-old vet to learn from two younger players who have been in the system for a long time.
— Zach Selby (@ZachSelbyWFT) June 3, 2021
Curtis Samuel:
Allen watched Curtis Samuel a bunch last season, and he noticed that Samuel has become a more polished wide receiver.
— Zach Selby (@ZachSelbyWFT) June 3, 2021
Wide receivers:
Allen thinks WAS has a really good group of WRs this year. Terry has stepped up even more, and Samuel is going to add another dimension to the offense. He's also lockermates with Adam Humphries, and he believes people don't appreciate how good of a player he is.
— Zach Selby (@ZachSelbyWFT) June 3, 2021
Terry McLaurin
Offseason work:
Terry McLaurin trained with Doug Baldwin over the offseason and they worked on his releases. "If I can win at the line, that definitely gives me an advantage and that's definitely something I wanted to [home] in on this year."
— Nicki Jhabvala (@NickiJhabvala) June 3, 2021
Terry McLaurin worked on his releases off the line with former NFL receiver Doug Baldwin. "There's a lot of film out on me now... if I can win at that line, that definitely gives me an advantage. That's something I wanted to hone in on coming into this year."

Dyami Brown:
Terry McLaurin, who says he can tell when a wideout has a good feel for the game, just told us Dyami Brown definitely has it. Also explained that Brown has "that easy speed"
— Pete Hailey (@PeteHaileyNBCS) June 3, 2021
Ryan Fitzpatrick:
Terry McLaurin said it’s starting to feel more natural with Ryan Fitzpatrick. They communicate quite a bit.
— John Keim (@john_keim) June 3, 2021
Earning respect:
McLaurin said having more players with “pedigree” won’t matter if they don’t go out and make plays. McLaurin: “You have to do it to earn respect in this league.”
— John Keim (@john_keim) June 3, 2021
Curtis Samuel:
Update: TERRY HAS RESPONDED ABOUT THE FISH.https://t.co/67obS5A3K6 pic.twitter.com/pHXhlLqS2W

Kelvin Harmon
ACL injury:
WR Kelvin Harmon on how he felt after he tore the ACL in his right knee last summer: "My leg felt like somebody shot me 80 times."
— Sam Fortier (@Sam4TR) June 3, 2021
Faster/more explosive:
WR Kelvin Harmon said he feels faster and more explosive than before his knee injury. ...
— John Keim (@john_keim) June 3, 2021
my two cents: his physical style helps him; if plays faster can be a bigger help.
Kamren Curl
Position in Washington’s defense:
S Kam Curl said he's not sure what will happen when SS Landon Collins returns from injury, but in the meantime, he's taking reps at SS, FS and big nickel. When Deshazor Everett or Bobby McCain is the other safety, they've sometimes played left/right instead of free/strong.
— Sam Fortier (@Sam4TR) June 3, 2021
Cole Holcomb
Jamin Davis:

"He's big, he's fast, he's strong." #WashingtonFootball pic.twitter.com/1NYp7YJtT8
Mullet:
Cole Holcomb's parents don't approve of his mullet, just FYI. He's going to keep it going for now though, until somebody who's outside of his circle calls him out on it
— Pete Hailey (@PeteHaileyNBCS) June 3, 2021
Logan Thomas:
"I think he's becoming one of the better tight ends in the league. He's come a long way."
— Pete Hailey (@PeteHaileyNBCS) June 3, 2021
Cole Holcomb on Logan Thomas, who he sees and is matched up with every day in practice
Cole Holcomb says the #WFT D has to have a 'dog mentality' and feels he held his own in man coverage last year vs. TE's.
— Chris Russell AKA The Rooster (@Russellmania621) June 3, 2021
Says #WashingtonFootball offense provides a good test in practice & feels Logan Thomas is becoming one of the better TE's in the #NFL.
