The practice fields look incredible. One of the first things Rivera did was order a complete overhaul of the fields/drainage.

New QB!
Steven Montez is not eligible for rookie camp so Washington flew in Jordan Ta’amu for a tryout. Heinicke was his backup in the XFL.
— Nicki Jhabvala (@NickiJhabvala) May 14, 2021
Turns out Steven Montez was not eligible for the rookie minicamp because of service time. So they brought in Jordan Ta’amu as their QB. Ta’-amu was the starter ahead of Taylor Heinicke for St. Louis in the XFL.

Jaret Patterson
Jaret Patterson is already getting some work in with RBs coaches Randy Jordan and Jennifer King before warmups.

As the only RB practicing today, Patterson is getting a lot of individual coaching from Jordan and King. After working on handoffs, they just started on footwork. pic.twitter.com/y86qNWQND8

Because of the lack of players, you can hear cool teaching moments like this from Randy Jordan to Jaret Patterson pic.twitter.com/R0NtHjFPAS

I love rookie mini camp, but there are two offensive linemen here and they’re not in pads ... there’s not a lot you can glean from guys in the trenches - that being said Matsko isn’t any less intense https://t.co/DODXE6WWtr

Mini-camp analysis
Rookie camp observations are here. Tidbits on:
— michael phillips (@michaelpRTD) May 14, 2021
-Jaret Patterson's size
-Dax Milne's route running
-Where defensive picks fit in
-Taylor Heinicke praise from the day's emergency QBhttps://t.co/joK0myWqAH
In a practice that featured just 16 players, there wasn't a TON to glean from Day 1 of Washington's rookie camp. However, I did a LITTLE gleaning, and you can do some reading about my gleaning here https://t.co/Wq3bXP86SR
— Pete Hailey (@PeteHaileyNBCS) May 14, 2021
"You can only tell so much on tape and once you get to watch them in person you get a better feel for them and how they are going to fit us."

Notes from day 1⃣ of rookie minicamp
Washington's first day of rookie camp focused more on orientation than aesthetics, but the real intrigue came as Ron Rivera discussed Charles Leno's role, and the team later signing ex-Dolphins safety Bobby McCain.https://t.co/xN1I0aPc9g
