WFT QB Taylor Heinicke is live on Instagram with @Schultz_Report right now.

He’s already provided a nugget regarding how players feel about the name:
“Guys that I talked to about it when I got here actually like it. We don’t need a mascot. We’re here to play football.”
Washington Football Team letting 3,000 fans into FedEx Field for NFL Draft celebration next Thursday. Big step in return to normalcy. More info here https://t.co/ZdGBhRCz60

Of all the WFT angles to consider, I never imagined Ron Rivera as the heavy in the Alex Smith story. If there's ever a movie, it seems like we're headed in that direction or at least someone portrayed as the WFT coach wears the black hat. Weird and unfortunate.
— Ben Standig (@BenStandig) April 22, 2021
Ron Rivera played Alex Smith when he had to (Rams), and continued to play him until he couldn't play anymore and didn't give the team the best chance to win. I don't understand why Alex would be mad at that. Even in the SI article the doctors admitted his leg STILL isn't healed.
— Disco (@discoque5) April 22, 2021
Imagine the Sports Illustrated article we’d be reading if Alex Smith had suffered another devastating injury to that leg? Rivera and company handled his situation responsibly and if anything let Smith risk more than they should have.
— BGObsession (@BGObsession) April 22, 2021
So the dude green lighted a documentary that focused on him nearly dying because of this injury and now he’s still all pissy that the team was reluctant to put him back out there? What’s the endgame here?
— Not Robert Griffin (@Pseudo_RGIII) April 22, 2021
Look, Alex can say what he wants, and I still respect the hell out of him, but doubling down here and going so hard at Washington strikes me as quite odd https://t.co/x3TC9lAKNp
— Pete Hailey (@PeteHaileyNBCS) April 22, 2021
Remember when Robert Griffin III talked the Shanahans out of benching him at halftime cuz he couldn't walk then he tore his ACL? It became the Shanahan's "fault" for many.
— Paul Conner (@P_ConnerJr) April 22, 2021
Ron Rivera did the opposite. It was an against all odds comeback for a reason. Didn't. Seem. Plausible.
Is anyone really gonna get mad and blame Rivera for exercising caution and concern RE: Alex Smith's surgically repair bionic leg?
— Matt (@matt_umd) April 22, 2021
I mean really, wtf are we talking about here?
One more. The ultimate in revisionist history is suggesting Alex Smith vs. Tampa is anything other than a 42-0 snoozer.
— michael phillips (@michaelpRTD) April 22, 2021
Dude barely beat a team that was trying to lose a week earlier. It was over.
Great story. Incredible comeback. No malpractice committed by coaching staff.
With the new Alex Smith story from SI and the information from former team Dr. Robin West, this seems relevant too. Inova holds naming rights for the team's training facility and those expire at the end of the year pic.twitter.com/fcT6cj8siZ

This is the exact reason why the “trade down to get more swings at the plate” debate really depends on who is taking the swings.
— Brett Kollmann (@BrettKollmann) April 22, 2021
If you’re giving Chris Grier or Chris Ballard more swings, sure trading down is ideal. If it’s not a good evaluator tho? Ehhhh just take Julio. https://t.co/cQVcnZrJ2i

"I'm not sure those opt-outs were in shape" is, of course, NFL code for "I don't trust any mamby-pamby who was afraid of a widdle virus when he should have been sweating and panting with his teammates."

Don't be too hard on Gettleman. He's just the one saying it aloud.
I started on fanspeak, but I like TDN now. Don’t love the PFF one

Texas A&M’s Kellen Mond is one of three QBs likely to come off the board on Day 2 of the NFL Draft, with multiple people raising the long-shot possibility he even could sneak into Round 1. @nflnetwork pic.twitter.com/zHCUeFnYFx

Heard today of a team looking at NDST OT Dillon Radunz late 1st. Seemed rich, but now seeing that yesterday @MoveTheSticks said he's moving Radunz into the 30s on his board and could see him going, "a little bit higher than we had initially expected." Lots of OT action in top 40.

Gettleman has a talent for coming across as the uncle who is SURE the car salesman is trying to put one over on him but can't be bothered with Carfax or the Kelley Blue Book.

Tom Brady doesn't like the league expanding the use of single-digit numbers. Says it's "going to make for a lot of bad football." pic.twitter.com/fsO128sNTX
— NFL Update (@MySportsUpdate) April 22, 2021
What @TomBrady is referencing is a real concern coaches have talked about. Some feel like the prospect of more confusion among lineman, and potential for more free runs at QBs, runs counter to what the league has done historically.
— Albert Breer (@AlbertBreer) April 22, 2021
Will be interesting to see if it's a problem https://t.co/F4zkDgFKN5

— Pete Hailey (@PeteHaileyNBCS) April 22, 2021
There were no rookie minicamps at all in 2020, so dozens, if not hundreds of unsigned players never got a chance to compete. COVID continues to impact normal football operations, and those opportunities will be limited again this year.
— Tom Pelissero (@TomPelissero) April 22, 2021
how do you measure the most "reliable" position to draft in the first round?
— Warren Sharp (@SharpFootball) April 22, 2021
one way is to look at positions that get their fifth-year options/extensions
top "hit" rates:
TE: 100%
DB: 70%
OT: 68%
C: 67%
DT: 67%
LB: 61%
QB: 55%
DE: 55%
WR: 54%
OG: 45%
RB: 44%
since inception of the 5th year in the CBA, which began with the 2011 draft class
— Warren Sharp (@SharpFootball) April 22, 2021
Isn’t the entire list still only like 4-5 guys? Also, Ebron’s 5th year was excercised, but he was released before his 5th season. Just seems like a small sample size to me 1/2
