Say what you want but Alex Smith was a winner and a real leader. He was 11-5 in Washington as a starter (5-1 this past season). His story is truly remarkable and an inspiration for those dealing with adversity and setbacks to never give up.

Alex Smith details how he considered signing with the Jaguars before ultimately deciding to hang it up after 16 years in the NFL pic.twitter.com/t2v2w4AdSd
— Outside The Lines (@OTLonESPN) April 19, 2021
Smith’s retirement has no impact on @WashingtonNFL’s 2021 cap since they terminated his contract back in March. He’s currently counting 8.2M against their cap. That would’ve be been 10.8M but they received a 2.6M credit from the insurance policy they took out against Smith. #WFT

The NFL's Comeback Player of the Year honor should be renamed the Alex Smith Award.
— Adam Rank (@adamrank) April 19, 2021
QB Alex Smith walks away from the #NFL having earned just under $190M across 16 seasons with the #49ers, & #Chiefs, & #WashingtonFootballTeam. The former #1 overall selection ends with a 99-67-1 record, and 199 TD passes.https://t.co/V2VrIMGlam pic.twitter.com/602xphvI9w

Bottom line for WFT draft: there’s a lot of mystery about what will happen and in many cases their desires. They like it that way. Picking 19 forces them to consider many, many scenarios. In the end: nobody really knows what they’ll do. Nobody.
— John Keim (@john_keim) April 19, 2021
Per source: Washington will not be at Trey Lance’s Pro Day. Would not read anything into their absence. Would take a big move up of course but after discussing whether to go, clear their feelings on him have been formed. Now, what those feelings are? Silence for them is golden
— John Keim (@john_keim) April 19, 2021
North Dakota St. QB Trey Lance has his second Pro Day today, and #49ers GM John Lynch and coach Kyle Shanahan will be in attendance. So will officials from the #Falcons, #Broncos, and #Patriots. With less than two weeks to go, a final look at a top QB.
— Ian Rapoport (@RapSheet) April 19, 2021
I’m told Lance went to work with Beck at Shanahan’s request, and that the Niners’ coaching staff gave Beck a list of drills they wanted Lance to work on ahead of Monday’s workout. Effectively, the 49ers designed the workout and will have a hand in administering it.
— Dan Graziano (@DanGrazianoESPN) April 19, 2021
Worth noting, of course, that Beck also works with Justin Fields, who along with Mac Jones is also under consideration for the 49ers at pick No. 3.
— Dan Graziano (@DanGrazianoESPN) April 19, 2021
Sounds like a good time for the WFT to think about a trade.https://t.co/K2sBdufcRs https://t.co/sSRmIZtBc9
— Bill-in-Bangkok (@billhorgan2005) April 19, 2021
Another one. There was some hope he had turned a corner. Or could compete for a spot. No longer. RB remains on the list of desires in the draft. https://t.co/UnM73bbZtD

The #Dolphins have already made two moves in the NFL Draft and they may not be done yet: Sources say they’ve received calls from teams looking to trade up to No. 6 and it is something they’re considering. Lot of things in play, but Miami could be at it again.

This draft class is so deep at OT that if we miss out on the top 3 (IMHO, Sewell, Slater, and Darrisaw) I'd be comfortable waiting til the 3rd to see what high-upside dude is left. Gotta be one of the following at #74:
— WASHINGTON FOOTBALL (@HogsHaven) April 19, 2021
Eichenberg, Leatherwood, Cosmi, Little, North, Christensen
To give you an idea of how much of an outlier this OT class is, here are the top 15 tackles all-time in composite athleticism (thanks @MathBomb). 4 -- 27%(!) -- are in this year's draft. Out of the remaining 11, 7 (64%) developed into quality starters. SUPER high correlation. pic.twitter.com/bqj53rBCHg

UGA game was rough in pass pro..he notably improved in the ensuing weeks but think the issues still popped up (range/set pts). Will need schemed help on obv pass downs at T, but has the makeup to move inside, just hasn't played there before. Some David Edwards vibes for me.

I should add that Dak Prescott's number will likely rise next offseason.
— Nick Korte (@nickkorte) April 19, 2021
DAL has an extra void year in his contract that currently has a $0 cap number.
But it's there to possibly automatically restructure his $20M base salary in 2022 if they so choose.https://t.co/RYAw11SSjb https://t.co/qtHLerRLeS
The NFL’s reluctance on the booth umpire/SkyJudge is perhaps the dumbest thing I’ve encountered in 16 years covering the league. Evidently, common sense isn’t common ... enough?
