Alex Smith. “728 days of small victories and major set backs.” — “I did not walk alone.” — “To anyone going through hard times. There are no ups without downs.” That’s our QB. #WashingtonFootball

Congrats to Alex for officially winning AP Comeback Player of the Year! pic.twitter.com/gTsS9swsZ6
Alex Smiths received 49 out of 50 votes for CPOY, with Ben Roethlisberger receiving 1 vote
— NFL Stats (@NFL_Stats) February 7, 2021
The award should be named Alex Smith Comeback Player of the Year Award. 49/50. That some idiot voted wrong shouldn’t be a story.
— JP Finlay (@JPFinlayNBCS) February 7, 2021
The one guy that didn’t vote for Alex Smith pic.twitter.com/RO61mcWAd3
— Not Robert Griffin (@Pseudo_RGIII) February 7, 2021
Whoever voted for Ben Roethlisberger for Comeback Player of the Year should be forced to have a 2-hour dinner with Chris Collinsworth and ask Chris to tell him stories from his playing days.

In the interest of open ballots here were my votes as part of the AP awards panel:

Did Aaron Rodgers just say he got engaged?
— Lindsay Jones (@bylindsayhjones) February 7, 2021
I'm just going to assume Aaron Rodgers and Jodi Foster are getting married and leave it at that.
— Lindsay Jones (@bylindsayhjones) February 7, 2021
Yes. Jodie Foster is in a new movie with Shailene Woodley, who is Rodgers girlfriend. My guess is she introduced them.

Eagles are expected to trade Carson Wentz in the coming days in what would be the latest blockbuster QB deal to rock the NFL, sources tell @mortreport and me. The most pertinent questions now become where, when and for what. But it could happen as early as this week.
— Adam Schefter (@AdamSchefter) February 6, 2021
Eagles Reportedly Getting Closer To Trading QB Carson Wentz https://t.co/IGSjiX5G59 #Eagles pic.twitter.com/fdPEYHZsUQ
— NFLTradeRumors.co (@nfltrade_rumors) February 6, 2021
The Eagles' initial asking price for Carson Wentz was an equivalent of the return that the Lions got for Matthew Stafford, per several sources involved. They'll get less than that. How much less is the question.
— Albert Breer (@AlbertBreer) February 7, 2021
But that it's negotiable shows they're ready to deal him.
Bears rumored to be including Nick Foles in potential trade package for Carson Wentz https://t.co/tvIeZK917X
— Bleeding Green Nation (@BleedingGreen) February 6, 2021
Re Carson Wentz and my insistence he would not be traded: yes, it looks like I will be wrong. Very wrong.
— Andrew Brandt (@AndrewBrandt) February 6, 2021
I did not believe the Eagles would debilitate their team ($34M dead money on a $180M Cap) and admit to such a massive mistake.
But they are clearly shopping him. My bad.
The #Rams wound up paying Jared Goff an extra $30 million to basically finish out his rookie deal. The #Eagles will wind up paying Carson Wentz an extra $29.6 million. Neither will play a down for the teams in the actual extension years which begin in 2021 for both
— Jason_OTC (@Jason_OTC) February 7, 2021
I’d be really surprised, but I didn’t think the Eagles would get anything close to what is being speculated right now https://t.co/gkRs8S5MjM
— Mark Bullock (@MarkBullockNFL) February 6, 2021
Loving eyes can never see... That’s the only way to explain how the #Eagles could expect any team to swap a pair of 1s for Carson Wentz. He led the NFL in INTs and sacks in 2020 despite sitting on the bench the final 4 games. Who is paying premium prices for that? #FlyEaglesFly
— Bucky Brooks (@BuckyBrooks) February 6, 2021
Source is telling me Bears deal for Wentz is close. Foles is speculated to be included with another offensive player and a first rounder. Buckle up.
— Natalie Egenolf (@NatalieEgenolf) February 7, 2021
If the #Eagles...
— Spotrac (@spotrac) February 6, 2021
-Trade Carson Wentz
-Trade/Release Zach Ertz
-Post 6/1 Release Alshon Jeffery
-Post 6/1 Release Malik Jackson
...they'll be taking on $49M of dead cap, 26% of the projected $185M league salary cap.
The #eagles now exist as pure narrative, untethered from reality, like something from a Grant Morrison comic.
— Mike Tanier (@MikeTanier) February 7, 2021
Trading for Carson Wentz when Deshaun Watson is available is a little like trading up to draft Mitchell Trubisky when Deshaun Watson is available. #Bears
— Mike Ferrin (@Mike_Ferrin) February 6, 2021
I feel like I've been saying this for years at this point... The #Browns need to dump this perennial attitude problem for whatever they can get in return, end the drama, and move on. https://t.co/sa498y0CzR
— Roberto Shenanigans (@Rob_Shenanigans) February 7, 2021
From last night: #Saints QB Drew Brees restructured his contract to give his team $24M in cap space for 2021, spreading his cap hit over several years. A precursor to the retirement that he’ll announce in the next couple of weeks. https://t.co/Q7BL3npEPw
— Ian Rapoport (@RapSheet) February 6, 2021
When you have the chance to hire a retread who has overseen just some brutal defenses in multiple spots over a young coach whose DB group held up surprisingly well, you have to do it. https://t.co/ARDpcoipyp
— Ben Standig (@BenStandig) February 6, 2021
This will be welcome news in Ashburn. #WashingtonFootball is not looking forward to losing Harris. People around the league think he has star potential. He will likely stay in DC at least one more season after getting multiple coordinator interviews. https://t.co/GTMFYnGqNs

— Eat Sleep WFT (@WFTTalk) February 7, 2021
This is not a normal Super Bowl. But there are some people in Tampa that are acting like it is one—and those people have the lines outside the bars looking like a Jersey Shore casting call.

All I know is...I’m gonna be in TV booth. With the #MNF crew. Calling freakin’ #SBLV. A game. Not a practice. Not a pregame. But a game. THE GAME. TOMORROW!!! #ChiefsKingdom #Buccaneers #NFL.

By the way, same for Gavin MacCleod. https://t.co/hYRa1UNfyS
— Rich Eisen (@richeisen) February 7, 2021
The #Saints are facing the biggest discipline yet after the NFL discovered more COVID protocol violations, including surveillance video of an interaction that may have contributed to RB Alvin Kamara’s positive test in December. From me and @RapSheet: https://t.co/k8xIEs1S0T
— Tom Pelissero (@TomPelissero) February 7, 2021
Alvin Kamara's refusal to wear the contract tracing device issued by the NFL and mandated for all players and coaches was an internal issue all season, multiple team sources said. Because of this, the league had no way to trace Kamara's close contacts after he tested positive.
