LIVE: Coach Rivera speaks with the media https://t.co/uQWvZ2khBT
— Washington Football Team (@WashingtonNFL) October 25, 2021
Injury updates:
Rivera time. Ryan Fitzpatrick will have an MRI in two weeks and be evaluated then. Logan Thomas is still week-to-week, but they’ll see how he’s doing Wednesday. Same with Scherff.
— Matthew Paras (@Matthew_Paras) October 25, 2021
Ryan Fitzpatrick will have an MRI on his hip in two weeks, Ron Rivera said.
— Rhiannon Walker (@InstantRHIplay) October 25, 2021
Logan Thomas will be “week-to-week.”
Antonio Gibson (shin) came out of the game no worse for wear
With one game left heading into the bye, Rivera has several hopes, one of the chiefest being coming back healthy ahead of the Buccaneers game. Several key players has missed time, including Logan Thomas, Sam Cosmi and others.

Antonio Gibson:
Some other takeaways:
— Matthew Paras (@Matthew_Paras) October 25, 2021
- Gibson’s snaps were down, but Rivera indicated that was more due to the obvious passing situations team faced after falling behind. Health played a little factor though.
- If “approach” was last week’s presser theme, “consistency” was buzzword today
Logan Thomas:
Ron Rivera on Logan Thomas, who missed 3 games on IR and is eligible to return, health pending: "We’ll see how he is. It’s hopefully getting closer and closer. It may be a week-to-week thing."
— Nicki Jhabvala (@NickiJhabvala) October 25, 2021
Plausible they bring him back for Wk 10 since they have a bye after the Broncos game.
Brandon Scherff:
Ron Rivera said they'll see how RG Brandon Scherff (knee) is doing Wednesday morning and make a decision if he'll play in Denver or try to return after the bye.
— Nicki Jhabvala (@NickiJhabvala) October 25, 2021
Ryan Fitzpatrick:
Ron Rivera says Ryan Fitzpatrick's MRI to evaluate his progress won't be for another two weeks.
— michael phillips (@michaelpRTD) October 25, 2021
Taylor Heinicke:
Ron Rivera addressing the media. On Heinicke's performance. Other than the touchdown that wasn't a touchdown, he felt like Heinicke played well enough to give Washington a chance to win.
— Zach Selby (@ZachSelbyWFT) October 25, 2021
Besides getting the ball over the goal line, Ron Rivera said Taylor Heinicke played in a way to give the team a chance.
— Rhiannon Walker (@InstantRHIplay) October 25, 2021
There still isn't many starts on Heinicke's resume, but he does have a small body of work that Rivera can judge. When he's playing to his personality, he makes some good decisions. When he plays cautious, Rivera said, that's when the mistakes happen.

Training staff:
Ron Rivera says his medical staff right now is 'more than adequate" despite losing H.A.T. Ryan Vermillion & one of his top assistants.
— Chris Russell AKA The Rooster (@Russellmania621) October 25, 2021
Ron Rivera on the medical/athletic training staff in light of ongoing DEA investigation: "I think our medical staff is more than adequate. We're in a pretty good situation." (Rivera has said they brought back a couple interns who were with the team previously.)

Expectations:
Ron Rivera: "I know the expectations were high coming into this year, and the truth of the matter is we haven't lived up to those." pic.twitter.com/0OvmIzQa19
— Nicki Jhabvala (@NickiJhabvala) October 25, 2021
Rivera looking for his team to play better football and more consistent football. "Expectations were high and we haven't lived up to them. We have 10 games left."
— George Wallace (@GWallaceWTOP) October 25, 2021
Washington still has 10 games left to play, Rivera said, and anything can happen during that time. That's still plenty of opportunities to improve, particularly with the team's consistency, which has been an emphasis over the past seven weeks.
— Zach Selby (@ZachSelbyWFT) October 25, 2021
Chase Roullier:
Rivera: Chase Roullier has played excellent and does a good job of controlling the line.
— Zach Selby (@ZachSelbyWFT) October 25, 2021
The group, he added, has held up for the most part and played well.
Coin toss:
Asked Ron if he's going to reconsider his stance on winning the toss but deferring. He said: "At some point we're going to play better defense. At some point we'll get stops on the first drive." He also likes taking the ball to begin the second half, which I get. But still... pic.twitter.com/Rbo5CGLBar

Failed 4th down QB sneak:
Ron Rivera says on the Heinicke QB sneak - he's under assumption one official (Ref?) is assigned to watch the QB & on the coaches EZ footage, it was clear that Heinicke's knee(s) did not touch the ground. Says official should have seen that.
