So the Eagles all good on their evaluation of Nate Sudfeld now?
— Albert Breer (@AlbertBreer) January 4, 2021
The proof that tanking doesn't really exist is the NFL is just how stunning it is to see it actually happen in real time.
— Lindsay Jones (@bylindsayhjones) January 4, 2021
Some initial thoughts...
— Grant Paulsen (@granthpaulsen) January 4, 2021
1) A playoff game will be played at FedEx for the 4th time. That's cool.
2) Chase Young was the best player on the field tonight.
3) Washington still has a QB problem.
2) Doug Pederson benching Hurts was a joke.
3) The NFL should be livid w/ Philly.
Chase Young had a sack, a forced fumble, and 7 QB pressures tonight. He was tremendous in tonight's clincher. That shouldn't be lost among the awkwardness of that game. #WashingtonFootball
— Grant Paulsen (@granthpaulsen) January 4, 2021
Regardless of how they got there or did it, for #washingtonFootball to win the division is an accomplishment. After an ugly offseason that started many changes, Ron Rivera dealing with cancer, Alex Smith’s return, and also dealing with COVID, they should be proud of the feat.
— Lake Lewis Jr (@LakeLewis) January 4, 2021
Back in Week 4 when Ron Rivera talked about his 1-3 team gunning for the division, it sounded like crazy talk. Now, here they are, 7-9, NFC East champs and headed for the playoffs. (WFT's first berth since 2015).

The 7-9 Washington Football Team won the NFC East@WashingtonNFL is the 3rd team in NFL history (excl. strike seasons) to reach the playoffs with a sub-.500 record -- and both of the other two (2010 SEA, & Ron Rivera's 2014 CAR) won a playoff game that season
— NFL Research (@NFLResearch) January 4, 2021
I don't even know what to say on the show tomorrow. I'm not sure I've been this conflicted before. This will mark Washington's 4th division title since 1991 and they're too rare to scoff at. Playoff appearances are too infrequent.
— Grant Paulsen (@granthpaulsen) January 4, 2021
But that feels gross. 'Gotta go shower.
Congrats to @WashingtonNFL which deserves the spotlight, but the way this has unfolded is a total bummer of a season end and runs counter to everything that Game 256 should be about.

From Washington’s point of view, that was a horrible performance in a game they should have won comfortably.
— Mark Bullock (@MarkBullockNFL) January 4, 2021
That said, Alex Smith constantly preaches it doesn’t matter how you get there, just have to “punch your ticket to the dance”. Washington did just enough
They won. enjoy it. Don't worry about style points. Don't worry about whatever the Eagles did or didn't do. ... Was not pretty; still 7-9 with an NFC East crown. Beats losing to the Giants in 2016 on the final day, I'm sure. ...

A disgraceful end to a dreadful #Eagles season. Many will applaud the tank and three spots in the draft, but it spoke volumes about the current culture of the organization.
— Jeff McLane (@Jeff_McLane) January 4, 2021
FWIW Sudfeld has been with the Eagles since 2017. He was tendered by them in 2019 and came back on a lower priced deal in 2020. Took a last minute pay cut to remain on the team. Nothing to evaluate. Nothing to gain. Hes a FA again. No legit reason to have done this at all.

To be fair to the Eagles, Washington lost four straight to end the season last year and wound up with the guy Philly has no answer for as a result of it. So this is probably the right move.

Doug Pederson explains why he took Jalen Hurts out of the game vs. Washington: pic.twitter.com/chB3dxTRE3
The NFL’s longstanding position has been that it’s solely the club’s decision regarding who to play, for now long, etc. So while the circumstances tonight are unique, the #Eagles aren’t the first team to play backups in Week 17, and the league historically hasn’t gotten involved.
