The Matthew Stafford sweepstakes have ended, and the Los Angeles Rams have handed in the winning bid. Sean McVay gets his new QB, and has sent the Detroit Lions two future 1st round picks, a 3rd round pick, and QB Jared Goff to get him. This is a lot more than most people expected in trade value for the former #1 overall pick. The Rams also get rid of Jared Goff who they had clearly lost faith in.
Detroit is dealing QB Matthew Stafford to the Los Angeles Rams in exchange for two future first-round picks, a third-round pick and QB Jared Goff, per sources. Two former No. 1 overall picks trading places in the first blockbuster NFL trade of 2021.

League source gives opinion on #Lions decision to take the #Rams deal for Matthew Stafford: "The Rams were screwed with a bad contract on (Jared) Goff and the #Lions helped them and don't even get a good pick this year. The Washington offer was better."

Washington was reportedly one of the many teams interested in acquiring Stafford this year, but luckily they didn't mark the 3 year anniversary of the Alex Smith trade by making an even worse deal. Joshua Anderson says Washington is willing to trade their 1st round pick, #19 overall, to get a veteran QB. That won't be Stafford, and there aren't a lot of "formidable" options out there that they will be able to get for that without adding a lot more in compensation.
My understanding is the Washington Football Team is open to potentially, dealing more than just a 1st-rounder for a formidable veteran QB, depending on if it's the right deal*. The team is currently exploring its options.

Looks like Detroit found their suckers...
Text from league source on the #Lions trade talks for QB Matthew Stafford: "I’m sure they'll get a trade, but right now they're looking for a sucker to overpay."
