Best second-half team in football, and they get the ball first.
— michael phillips (@michaelpRTD) January 10, 2021
The door is still cracked open.
Thank goodness that half is OVER. Now it’s put up or shut up in the 2nd Half
— Rick Doc Walker (@RickDocWalker) January 10, 2021
Heinicke can play, he’s not the problem, someone has to help him on offense. Ridiculous amount of missed opportunities. Brady’s torching the D, no pressure at all.
— Nick Akridge (@PFF_NickAkridge) January 10, 2021
All of that being said it’s an 11-point game and we all know how much better this team is in the 2nd half
Reminder: Washington finished tied for the NFL lead with a +109 point differential in the second half.
— Ben Standig (@BenStandig) January 10, 2021
Issue: Team they tied with is also on the field. pic.twitter.com/oyrhH1TeI9
Bucs had 282 total yards and Tom Brady threw for 209 yards in the first half. Jack Del Rio had better try something different in the second half. If the idea was really to be patient on defense and make the Bucs string together drives as NBC said, it's time to be more aggressive.
— MarkMaske (@MarkMaske) January 10, 2021
Heinicke ain’t worried bout nothin
— Pat McAfee (@PatMcAfeeShow) January 10, 2021
YOU THINK I GASSED HIM UP BECAUSE I PLAYED BALL WITH HIM??
— Robbie Duncan (@RobbieDuncanOL) January 10, 2021
Heinicke was only a BACKUP in the XFL?!
— Chad Ryan (@ChadwikoRCC) January 10, 2021
We're all so stupid.
If Adam Gase ever had to go to his 4th string QB, he would never throw a pass beyond the line of scrimmage.
— Football Perspective (@fbgchase) January 10, 2021
Kudos to Scott Turner for playing pretty aggressively tonight with Heinicke.
Me, checking to see how much Taylor Heinicke jerseys are going for online... pic.twitter.com/4lladce46n
— Kimberley A. Martin (@ByKimberleyA) January 10, 2021
Taylor Heinike missed Logan Thomas at the sticks, high. That was his worst throw of the game. First "should've had that" toss. It took 22 throws.
— Grant Paulsen (@granthpaulsen) January 10, 2021
It really is crazy how well he's playing. I hope that doesn't get lost in the result if things don't turn around. Crazy.
Hard to see on this angle, but watching live the linebacker got a finger tip on it and disrupted the throw ever so slightly. pic.twitter.com/3jJLsKcrZ3
— Chad Ryan (@ChadwikoRCC) January 10, 2021
Washington is able to able to move down the field with relative ease, but stalled just inside the red zone.
— Rhiannon Walker (@InstantRHIplay) January 10, 2021
Dustin Hopkins nails the field goal and Washington is back down by one score, 18-10
Washington brings the score to 18-10 Tampa. They need for the defense to make a play to make this a winnable game.
— Lake Lewis Jr (@LakeLewis) January 10, 2021
Washington's defense has been excellent in the second half this year. The team has allowed a league-low 5.69 points per game and a league-low 116.9 yards after halftime. The next closest in yards are the Rams at 136.6. https://t.co/WwbLDmr7Pu
— John Keim (@john_keim) January 10, 2021
If we don't see a Logan Thomas trick play pass tonight, I will be sad.
— Football Perspective (@fbgchase) January 10, 2021
He threw this great 81-yard TD pass when in Arizona... his only completion as a Cardinal https://t.co/WPSrDzzN5L
The music here at Fedex Field during stoppages is exactly what you would hear at an 8th grade birthday party at a roller rink.
— James Palmer (@JamesPalmerTV) January 10, 2021
Godwin must've gotten his FA offer from Washington early
— Riggo's Rag (@RiggosRag) January 10, 2021
And a bad punt. Need to capitalize on this opportunity. Scott Turner has called a great game thus far, and he needs to pounce.
— Washington Wire (@Washington_Wire) January 10, 2021
Way to get off the field defense! Let's do this thing.

This holding call negated a 15-yard scramble to the TB 40. Back-breaking penalty and call at a time where holding penalties are way less frequent. https://t.co/flUBp7c5Aj
— Grant Paulsen (@granthpaulsen) January 10, 2021
MAn, just a mental blunder by Apke. Chance to pin inside the 10
— John Keim (@john_keim) January 10, 2021
On to the punt. Apke thought it might have hit the Bucs guy so he was running it in. His momentum didn't carry him. Come on.

Tress Way and The Football Team just got screwed by the refs.. what a bunch of bums in stripes
— Pat McAfee (@PatMcAfeeShow) January 10, 2021
NBC officiating analyst Terry McAulay has my back. "Common sense tells you...it shouldn't have been applied here."
— michael phillips (@michaelpRTD) January 10, 2021
Troy Apke going into the endzone is bad. But as the on-air ref is saying on NBC, that is not why the rule is in place. Feels bush league in that spot to give TB a touchback. #WashingtonFootball
— Grant Paulsen (@granthpaulsen) January 10, 2021
Taylor Heinicke, regardless of how this game ultimately ends, is one of the @NFL stories of the year.
— Andrew Siciliano (@AndrewSiciliano) January 10, 2021
Heinicke was cramming for finals in December. Six weeks later, he has his team within one of score of Tom Brady in a playoff game.
Big takeaway for Washington there as the Bucs were driving.
— Mike Jones (@ByMikeJones) January 10, 2021
Look at Payne punching the ball out right before Vaughn hits the ground. That's some next-level awareness.
— Riggo's Rag (@RiggosRag) January 10, 2021
And the defense creates a fumble. Jon Bostic recovers it after Daron Payne punched it out before the runner went down
— Rhiannon Walker (@InstantRHIplay) January 10, 2021

— michael phillips (@michaelpRTD) January 10, 2021
But he does have to go take his math finals at ODU before he can start accepting giant piles of cash.
Has a player ever been given a long-term contract at the 3rd quarter break?

I miss #AlexSmith not being out there, but love watching #TaylorHeinicke compete!!! As @michaelirvin88 said today’s the postseason is about creating your #Moments, he is doing that 2night in front the world... another reason I love sports, bc u never know until u play the game!
— Kurt Warner (@kurt13warner) January 10, 2021

— Washington Football Public Relations (@Wash_PR) January 10, 2021
And the Bucs are kicking another field goal after getting inside the red zone. It's good, Washington now trails, 21-16.
— Rhiannon Walker (@InstantRHIplay) January 10, 2021
This is the first time an offense has score more than 20 points on this defense since the Detroit Lions game. That was almost two months ago
After that hit, Taylor Heinicke was rolling around on the turf in a lot of pain

Heinicke is getting checked. Looks like left arm, or shoulder area. Got hit the last couple plays and was in obvious pain.

Steven Montez warming up...
— Ben Standig (@BenStandig) January 10, 2021

— Sam Fortier (@Sam4TR) January 10, 2021
Ron Rivera on Steven Montez, two weeks ago:
— michael phillips (@michaelpRTD) January 10, 2021
"Part of the worry came from watching him during warmups. At one point, even though we didn't have fans in the stands, you could kind of see he had a bit of awe in his face."

Brought him to Minesotta.
Brought him to Carolina.

— Pat McAfee (@PatMcAfeeShow) January 10, 2021
Heinicke is gonna get all of the headlines, but Cam Sims has been incredible tonight. Really has turned into a WR2 second half of this season. Earned a future in Washington.
— Washington Wire (@Washington_Wire) January 10, 2021
That's a catch IMO but they can't challenge because of no timeouts. Sucks.
— Chris Russell AKA The Rooster (@Russellmania621) January 10, 2021
Terry McAulay said on NBC he believed it was a catch and fumble. One official had it right but allowed himself to be talked out of it by another official, it appeared. https://t.co/FarEyK9Tx7

That's not a catch? I might be biased as a member of the Heinicke Hive but feels like WFT is getting some bad calls tonight....

— Grant Paulsen (@granthpaulsen) January 10, 2021
It won't be enough tonight but that was a sensational performance by the former ODU star.
That should do it. Bucs should survive. Entertaining and competitive game. Taylor Heinicke made a name for himself. Officiating was an issue.
— MarkMaske (@MarkMaske) January 10, 2021
Lost in the larger significance of the moment, that 4th down pass from Heinicke was made in desperation and it was still pin-point accurate.
— Chad Ryan (@ChadwikoRCC) January 10, 2021
I'm sold.
Regardless of the outcome what a great game by Heinicke!
— Patrick Mahomes II (@PatrickMahomes) January 10, 2021
A year ago, Taylor Heinicke was readying for the start of the XFL season as the St. Louis Battlehawks’ backup.
— Field Yates (@FieldYates) January 10, 2021
A month ago, he was taking classes at Old Dominion and working on his degree.
Tonight he threw for 311 yards while playing through pain in a huge spot. Respect.
It's a loss on the scoreboard, but tonight is a win for Ron Rivera and the WFT. Sure this division is terrible, but Washington showed that they can hang with anyone. What a performance by Heinicke!
