— Nicki Jhabvala (@NickiJhabvala) September 5, 2020
TEs Jeremy Sprinkle and Marcus Baugh making the team
More roster good news: Tight ends Marcus Baugh and Jeremy Sprinkle are expected to make the final 53, per source. Not surprising, but the team coulda rolled the dice on waiver options in both directions. They went with the birds in hand. Baugh a camp surprise for sure.
— Ben Standig (@BenStandig) September 5, 2020
Reported cut - LB Jared Norris
Washington is waiving LB Jared Norris, per source.
— Sam Fortier (@Sam4TR) September 5, 2020
Rivera s/o'd Norris, whom he brought here from CAR.
"[He's] probably told a couple of those young guys: ‘You go out there and bust your hump, Coach is going to recognize that. He’s going to see that. There’s value to that.’"
Greg Stroman making the team
More news about guys making the WFT roster: Cornerback Greg Stroman on the 53, per sources. Was around the ball a bunch in camp. Already reported CB Danny Johnson safe.
— Ben Standig (@BenStandig) September 5, 2020
Reported cut: CB Aaron Colvin
Washington is releasing CB Aaron Colvin, per source.
— Sam Fortier (@Sam4TR) September 5, 2020
After a tough camp with injuries at CB, the team needs depth. Greg Stroman, Danny Johnson, Simeon Thomas in the mix.
Alex Smith not going to IR
Washington is keeping Alex Smith on its initial 53-man roster with the intent of leaving him on the roster and not placing him on injured reserve, a person with knowledge of the situation said.
— Nicki Jhabvala (@NickiJhabvala) September 5, 2020
Ryan Anderson not getting traded
Some teams poked around. Nothing went beyond that...Anderson offers value here. Tough/violent. https://t.co/H1CRPxWJ0D
— John Keim (@john_keim) September 5, 2020
CB Danny Johnson making the team
CB Danny Johnson is making Washington’s
— Ben Standig (@BenStandig) September 5, 2020
53 per source.
Dropped him from my final because of recent injuries, but he looked good earlier in camp.
Probably one CB spot remains open for Stroman, Colvin, Thomas
Reported cut - DE Nate Orchard
Washington released DE Nate Orchard, per source.
— Ben Standig (@BenStandig) September 5, 2020
Reported cut - WR Jester Weah
Washington is releasing WR Jester Weah, per source.

Reported cut - WR Johnathan Johnson
Washington released WR Johnathan Johnson, per source.
— Ben Standig (@BenStandig) September 5, 2020
Reported cut - OL Paul Adams

— Sam Fortier (@Sam4TR) September 5, 2020
Reported cut - TE Richard Rodgers
Rodgers and Hentges gone now. Looks like Thomas, Baugh and Sprinkle for Washington’s TE group. https://t.co/eyBTz8g5H0
— Mark Bullock (@MarkBullockNFL) September 5, 2020
Reported cut - WR Jordan Veasy
Washington has released WR Jordan Veasy, per agency @OSMG_LLC.
— Sam Fortier (@Sam4TR) September 5, 2020
Reported cut - WR Cam Sims
Somewhat of a surprise with Trey Quinn also gone. Likely means good news for UDFA Isaiah Wright, who was special teams coordinator Nate Kaczor heaped praise on after the draft. https://t.co/Rx9A4KYhVa
— Mark Bullock (@MarkBullockNFL) September 5, 2020
Reported cut - S Jeremy Reaves
Washington released S Jeremy Reaves, per source. Another PS candidate if he clears waivers.
— Ben Standig (@BenStandig) September 5, 2020
Reported cut - DL Ryan Bee
Washington released DL Ryan Bee, per source. Just a tough unit to crack this year.
— Ben Standig (@BenStandig) September 5, 2020
Reported cut - TE Hale Hentges
Hale Hentges cut per source. The TE spot was a tough one too after Logan Thomas.
— John Keim (@john_keim) September 5, 2020
Reported cut: OL Ross Pierschbacher - 5th round pick from Alabama in 2019
Washington’s 2019 fifth-round pick, Ross Pierschbacher, was released today.
— Adam Schefter (@AdamSchefter) September 5, 2020
Reported cut - WR Tony Brown who was just signed last week
Curious about the mix at WR. Tony Brown was cut; strong PS candidate if he clears waivers. Quinn cut earlier.
— John Keim (@john_keim) September 5, 2020
Report - OL Mike Liedtke to IR
The Washington Football Team is placing my client Mike Liedtke on IR. 6th year o-lineman injured his shoulder a couple of weeks ago in camp.
— Brett Tessler (@TesslerSports) September 5, 2020
Reported cut: FS Sean Davis
First surprise cut of the morning: Washington released former starting safety Sean Davis, who it gave a $2 million signing bonus this off-season, per source.
— Adam Schefter (@AdamSchefter) September 5, 2020
One thing to note on Sean Davis: Shows Washington focused on guys who warranted a spot based on performance, not on $$ factors or wanting to prove they signed the right FA. Has 2 million cap hit...
— John Keim (@john_keim) September 5, 2020
Reported: Reuben Foster to IR - if not on 53 this ends his season
Reuben Foster to IR makes sense. He just hasn’t been right, and the strength of this game is explosive athleticism. @john_keim reported first.
— JP Finlay (@JPFinlayNBCS) September 5, 2020
Reported cut - WR Trey Quinn
Quinn could generate some interest on waivers since he's played in the league- hello Jay Gruden - but otherwise a potential PS candidate here if he clears waivers.
— Ben Standig (@BenStandig) September 5, 2020
Reported cut: OL Timon Parris
Washington waived OL Timon Parris, @PostSports can confirm. This is part of the OL overhaul in Washington that picked up with the trade for T David Sharpe on Tue.
— Sam Fortier (@Sam4TR) September 5, 2020
Reported cut - OT David Steinmetz
Washington released QB Steven Montez, OT Timon Parris and OT David Steinmetz, per sources. Would imagine PS an option at least for Montez.
— Ben Standig (@BenStandig) September 5, 2020
Reported Cut: QB Steven Montez
Washington released QB Steven Montez, per source. The rookie from Colorado makes sense for the PS as well, if he clears waivers. @BenStandig first.
— Sam Fortier (@Sam4TR) September 5, 2020
Reported cut: DE Jordan Brailford (2019 7th round pick)
Washington has waived DE Jordan Brailford, per source. He seemed to play well in camp and would make sense for the practice squad. Seventh-rounder out of Oklahoma State in 2019. @BenStandig first.
— Sam Fortier (@Sam4TR) September 5, 2020
Reported cut - LB Donald Payne
The @WashingtonNFL plans to release veteran LB Donald Payne per a source...
— Chris Russell AKA The Rooster (@Russellmania621) September 5, 2020
Interest in bringing him back to practice squad if he clears tomorrow. @WSHFootballSI @LockedWFTPod @1067theFan
Reported cut - CB Ryan Lewis
Per source, the @WashingtonNFL plans to release young CB Ryan Lewis. @WSHFootballSI @LockedWFTPod @1067theFan
— Chris Russell AKA The Rooster (@Russellmania621) September 5, 2020
Was with #Dolphins @apoupartFins
Ryan Anderson trade?
Cutdown's tomorrow. Here are guys raised in trade talks ...
— Albert Breer (@AlbertBreer) September 5, 2020
• Bills WR Robert Foster
• Panthers WR Seth Roberts
• Bills TE Jason Croom
• Jets C Jonathan Harrison
• Saints DL Sheldon Rankins
• Eagles CB Rasul Douglas
• Eagles CB Sidney Jones
• Washington OLB Ryan Anderson
Teams have called. Have called on a few guys. Doesn’t mean something is happening. teams see where others have depth, see if they can get someone. https://t.co/RPIvUKXVAP
— John Keim (@john_keim) September 5, 2020
important point. And talking doesn't mean trading. but when teams know you have depth at spots it leads to talks. Wouldn't give him away that's for sure. RA plays with violence/tough. Love his demeanor. Need strong backups who can also help vs. the run. https://t.co/VfMTikOv08
— John Keim (@john_keim) September 5, 2020
One reason R. Anderson's name has come up in trade talks: development of Jordan Brailford/James Smith-Williams. Both had their moments in camp. JSW can also rush inside in some packages. There was zero traction from other teams for RA in spring. No clue if talks serious now.
— John Keim (@john_keim) September 5, 2020
Washington will keep Alex Smith on the 53-man roster
The Washington Football Team plans to keep QB Alex Smith on its 53-man roster, per sources.
— Tom Pelissero (@TomPelissero) September 5, 2020
Smith still has a long way to go. But another amazing step in his journey back from a catastrophic leg injury.
Random thoughts
Shame Reuben Foster will go to IR again. Lot of hard work fell short. Missing two years in the NFL usually means finding a new plan in life.
— Rick Snider (@Snide_Remarks) September 5, 2020
A few thoughts
— JP Finlay (@JPFinlayNBCS) September 5, 2020
-Davis out is good for Curl, 7th round rookie
-Foster to IR is good for Hudson, 5th round rookie
Maybe the new bosses want to keep their own draft picks
What it says to me is subtle, incremental improvements can cause lives to change in the NFL. Steven Sims gets slightly better on ST and now Cam’s on the team and Trey Quinn’s back to Mr. Irrelevant — the razor’s edge they all live on.
— Chris Lingebach (@ChrisLingebach) September 5, 2020
Looks like Keith Ismael has won the back up center job, but that was expected. https://t.co/BM1YiKro6D
— Mark Bullock (@MarkBullockNFL) September 5, 2020
Outside of coming up with the 1s to play LG, I noticed how the team plugged Ismael into the C and occasionally had him at RG. They put a lot on him like Antonio Gibson. Asked coach Ron Rivera about it. pic.twitter.com/B1Vpk4h482
— Rhiannon Walker (@InstantRHIplay) September 5, 2020
I was cut 8 times. After so much athletic success in your life, it’s jarring to be released. As I see young men walking out with heads held high, I know they are building a unique resilience today that will last a lifetime. Respect and well wishes to you all across the league.
— Jason Wright (@whoisjwright) September 5, 2020
This makes me now think of Cornelius Lucas. Another singing who didn’t exactly thrive in Ashburn. Plus they just traded for a tackle from the Raiders. We shall see https://t.co/BGCFQtgHRG

Thoughts as we wait on final cuts/moves:
— Ben Standig (@BenStandig) September 5, 2020
* All 2020 draft picks still here.
* Lots of those cut strong 4 PS. 16 slots.
* Still a bunch of CB on the roster. Fuller missed practices.
* I very much need coffee. Heard lack of said drink makes some crankier than normal. Yes.
Here's some fun news.
— Ben Standig (@BenStandig) September 5, 2020
Apparently some WFT players are switching numbers.
Jimmy Moreland is taking 20 because after Peterson’s release, Landon Collins is dipping back to his Alabama days with... pic.twitter.com/JEbg2YRaIz
This cut was pretty interesting to me. When he was signed I was told by team officials they thought he would start. That never materialized. I like that it seems like they're establishing a meritocracy. https://t.co/MHhcuPkb6v

Reminders about rules
As cut day begins, a reminder that there’s a soft landing ahead for many of these players:
— michael phillips (@michaelpRTD) September 5, 2020
-80 man roster trims to 53
-Then 16 of the cuts get to go to practice squad
-New rule for this year allows practice squad players to be on game day roster twice during the season
Any player a team plans to activate off Injured Reserve this season must make the initial 53-man roster. Then they can be put on IR, opening up a spot on the roster. https://t.co/2sR572BvNF
