We’re back out here in Ashburn early, it’s raining but that didn’t stop James Smith-Williams from being the first player out of the building ... again
— Mitchell Tischler (@Mitch_Tischler) August 22, 2020
He’s quickly turned into the odds on favorite, I don’t know that I’d bet against him at this point #WFT
Day 3 of fully padded practice at @WashingtonNFL training camp. Kerrigan, Moses, Christian and Love are all back after a day off Thursday. Chase Young is also back in uniform. pic.twitter.com/Ao5r9aSfL5
— Kyle Stackpole (@kylefstackpole) August 22, 2020
Chase Young is here in pads but not going through individual drills. My guess is no contact for him today.
— JP Finlay (@JPFinlayNBCS) August 22, 2020
Rookie left tackle Saahdiq Charles makes his first public appearance at WFT training camp. Big wrap on that leg. He’s not practicing pic.twitter.com/71kaQa9pI2
— JP Finlay (@JPFinlayNBCS) August 22, 2020
Looks lime Saahdiq Charles and Donald Payne are off on side as @WashingtonNFL begins stretching. @WSHFootballSI
— Chris Russell AKA The Rooster (@Russellmania621) August 22, 2020
Watching Saahdiq Charles just walk around seems tough. That calf is giving him trouble. He hasn’t practiced yet in camp and I’d guess this will last a bit
— JP Finlay (@JPFinlayNBCS) August 22, 2020
First practice after telling his team about cancer diagnosis, Ron Rivera says it’s business as usual. pic.twitter.com/iEBkyjNGAU

Bryce Love is also back in practice today, in full pads, catching passes. pic.twitter.com/jvkKXMFo0g
— Zach Selby (@ZachDSelby) August 22, 2020
Chase Young (hip flexor) is out here and wearing a helmet, but looks to be watching some of these unit drills.
— Ben Standig (@BenStandig) August 22, 2020
Marcus Baugh going through individual drills. TEs coach Pete Hoener approves. “Very nice.” pic.twitter.com/C8FEAAbYy2

RBs going through footwork drills pic.twitter.com/m2AqssGcI2
— Zach Selby (@ZachDSelby) August 22, 2020
Entire group of RBs out there today after Adrian Peterson got an off day Wednesday and Bryce Love got one Thursday. Will be interesting to see how they split up the reps during team drills. pic.twitter.com/1Js4Ys6ZrZ
— Kyle Stackpole (@kylefstackpole) August 22, 2020
Washington always has two tight ends join quarterbacks and receivers during throwing drills. So far they’ve been Logan Thomas and Marcus Baugh. pic.twitter.com/rfoJlsd9Mb
— Matthew Paras (@Matthew_Paras) August 22, 2020
I love this addition on the end of a typical OLine blocking drill - prepare for the worst and work on having good awareness #WFT pic.twitter.com/CSJwtedcrD

Drop by Antonio Gandy-Golden from Alex Smith in the far shot. @WashingtonNFL @WSHFootballSI @theMMQB pic.twitter.com/UfA5I7r0eY

Quarterbacks throwing to running backs. Expect to see a lot more of that in new OC Scott Turner’s offense this season. pic.twitter.com/DATzstFHXP
— Sam Fortier (@Sam4TR) August 22, 2020
Saw Sweat go twice during 1-on-1s, and both times he stood up his opponent and easily shed him. Another solid session.
— Kyle Stackpole (@kylefstackpole) August 22, 2020
Starting defense with the 1s:
— Zach Selby (@ZachDSelby) August 22, 2020
FS: Apke
SS: Collins
CBS: Fuller, Darby, Moreland in the slot
LBs: Holcomb, Bostic
DL: Kerrigan, Allen, Ioannidis, Sweat
Geron Christian is back at starting LT today.
— Zach Selby (@ZachDSelby) August 22, 2020
Full pads. Plenty of contact in 11v11 today. Saw a vintage AP run where he burst through the middle and hit the gas a little bit.
— JP Finlay (@JPFinlayNBCS) August 22, 2020
The pass rush is getting to the QBs again today. Allen had to step up to avoid the rush and threw an incomplete pass.
— Zach Selby (@ZachDSelby) August 22, 2020
Chase Young is dressed & holding helmet but did not participate in 1-on-1's & has not been in yet on team drills.
— Chris Russell AKA The Rooster (@Russellmania621) August 22, 2020
Both Haskins & Kyle Allen continue to sail way too many passes high & long. Not just deep throws either. @WSHFootballSI @theMMQB
JD McKissic working out of the slot and KPL just takes a ball out of his hands
— JP Finlay (@JPFinlayNBCS) August 22, 2020
During the first team session, Haskins gets 5 plays, Allen gets 4 and Montez gets 3. Takeaways:
— Kyle Stackpole (@kylefstackpole) August 22, 2020
- Haskins misfires to McLaurin, who got wide open on a slant
- Allen overthrows Inman
- 2 completions for Montez against the 3s.
Wes Martins helmet pops off in 9v9 action and he and Jon Allen don’t seem thrilled with one another
— JP Finlay (@JPFinlayNBCS) August 22, 2020
Smith first rep of 9v9 and Daron Payne and Tim Settle are rushing the passer. Incomplete over the middle after WR got popped. Didn’t see who it was
— JP Finlay (@JPFinlayNBCS) August 22, 2020
Second snap for Alex Smith in 9v9 and guard gets pushed back into the QB. Third snap heavy rush from left side and Smith overthrows the WR and Sean Davis drops easy INT
— JP Finlay (@JPFinlayNBCS) August 22, 2020
Alex Smith will get something out of 9-9 work. Example: On one rush, Settle pushed Ismael back and bumped into Smith's left leg as he threw the ball. Not the injured leg, but it's life in an NFL pocket.
— John Keim (@john_keim) August 22, 2020
Sean Davis dropped what would’ve been a pick off Alex Smith. On cue, Chris Harris sprints over to him and yells, “You don’t like nice things?!”
— Nicki Jhabvala (@NickiJhabvala) August 22, 2020
Alex Smith in 9-on-9 drills looks much more fluid in pocket..sliding to his left to avoid rush..also dodged another rush by climbing pocket a bit. Threw a should be INT but ball was dropped by Sean Davis.@WSHFootballSI @SInow @theMMQB
— Chris Russell AKA The Rooster (@Russellmania621) August 22, 2020
Nice downfield throw from Haskins to McLaurin. From a fantasy perspective know that McLaurin will get lots of looks with Haskins on the field. QB trusts his guy
— JP Finlay (@JPFinlayNBCS) August 22, 2020
Think we just saw Dwayne Haskins’ best three-rep stretch of camp so far during 9-on-9 drills. First he hit McLaurin short, then he found Gibson on a seam (beat Holcomb) and finally connected with McLaurin on a deep in. Looked very comfortable.
— Kyle Stackpole (@kylefstackpole) August 22, 2020
9v9 numbers for Haskins, Smith and Allen:
— Zach Selby (@ZachDSelby) August 22, 2020
Haskins: 4/6
Smith: 1/3
Allen: 6/6
After starting 1/3, Haskins was 3/3 on two passes to McLaurin and one to Antonio Gibson.
Granted it was against the 3s, but Allen also looked sharp during his 3 reps in 9-on-9. Had a short, in-rhythm throw to Cam Sims, rolled out right and hit Jordan Veasy downfield and connected with Isaiah Wright on a skinny post.
— Kyle Stackpole (@kylefstackpole) August 22, 2020
Special teams updates: Isaiah Wright, Steven Sims and Trey Quinn catching punts.
— Zach Selby (@ZachDSelby) August 22, 2020
Kevin Pierre-Louis with a good concentration play. On pass to McKissic along sidelines, ball bobbled, KPL grabs. Couldn't tell if stayed inbounds or not.
— John Keim (@john_keim) August 22, 2020
The running backs doing nothing fun. @WashingtonNFL @WSHFootballSI pic.twitter.com/lP1EN3fW3Q
— Chris Russell AKA The Rooster (@Russellmania621) August 22, 2020
Some additional notes from 9v9:
— Zach Selby (@ZachDSelby) August 22, 2020
-Alex Smith looked strong in the pocket against pressure.
- WRs were getting open in the middle of the field. Near the sidelines, though, they met more pressure.
- RBs were targeted on 7/15 passes.
wait for it.... pic.twitter.com/IKocLDYSOW

Following this, Haskins threw four incompletions in a row. https://t.co/DiEiCkUb25
— Matthew Paras (@Matthew_Paras) August 22, 2020
Also worth noting that aside from one sack, the O-line protected Haskins well. https://t.co/qU5BlFBFcI
— Kyle Stackpole (@kylefstackpole) August 22, 2020
Troy Apke has continued to impress. On the final play of Haskins’ reps during 2-minute, Apke delivered a hit on Steven Sims to break up the pass.
— Zach Selby (@ZachDSelby) August 22, 2020
Apke with an impressive PBU on a deep ball to Steve Sims. Good closing speed from the safety.
— JP Finlay (@JPFinlayNBCS) August 22, 2020
Kyle Allen throws INT in 2 minute on second play. Good break on the ball from Greg Stroman
— JP Finlay (@JPFinlayNBCS) August 22, 2020
CB Greg Stroman has really come on as of late. Two interceptions in as many practices, and he had another before the media were allowed to watch. Washington needs CB depth, and Stroman is making his case.
— Kyle Stackpole (@kylefstackpole) August 22, 2020
Kyle Allen throws another INT. Deshazor Everett grabbed this one.
— JP Finlay (@JPFinlayNBCS) August 22, 2020
Woof
Ron Rivera emphasizes decision making when it comes to his quarterback. Kyle Allen just threw two interceptions in six passes during a two-minute drill. Stroman with the first grab (a nice play) and Everett with a clear read on the second INT.
— Matthew Paras (@Matthew_Paras) August 22, 2020
Deshazor Everett another pick off of Kyle Allen. Earlier had a big pop on Sims. Other day broke up a TD. No.22 came to play. @WSHFootballSI @theMMQB @1067theFan
— Chris Russell AKA The Rooster (@Russellmania621) August 22, 2020
Greg Stroman with another pick. This time off Kyle Allen..
— Chris Russell AKA The Rooster (@Russellmania621) August 22, 2020
Dwayne has been completely up & down. Really high or really sharp. Very little consistency. @WSHFootballSI @theMMQB
I can't imagine where this offense would be without Terry McLaurin. He's been an absolute go-to for Haskins (which he should be when you're that talented)
— Matthew Paras (@Matthew_Paras) August 22, 2020
Noticed Shaun Dion Hamilton flying to the ball today
— JP Finlay (@JPFinlayNBCS) August 22, 2020
The People’s Corner is back: Jimmy Moreland with a pick over the middle. Haskins throw. Looked like WR broke one way; ball goes another. So not sure what happened other than TPC with the pick.
— John Keim (@john_keim) August 22, 2020
First-team defense for much of today has been Kevin Pierre-Louis on the strongside, Holcomb and Bostic splitting middle and Thomas Davis Sr. on the weakside.
— Kyle Stackpole (@kylefstackpole) August 22, 2020
Another lackluster practice from Washington and Ron Rivera is lighting into his team. Wants players flying around and has been very clear he will not accept the current effort.
— JP Finlay (@JPFinlayNBCS) August 22, 2020
Whewww....I've never seen a HC around here in my 12 years chew a team out like that and for that long....
— Chris Russell AKA The Rooster (@Russellmania621) August 22, 2020
Wow. @WSHFootballSI @NFL @theMMQB https://t.co/DH9EkfbA11
Wes Martin was specifically called out. Sounded like Rivera said”I know you heard me that’s why I called your (f bomb) name”
— Matthew Paras (@Matthew_Paras) August 22, 2020
Ron Rivera points to Adrian Peterson and Thomas Davis as guys that know how to work. Then he pointed out Wes Martin and said, “This is your chance. This is your FING opportunity. Are you going to take it?”
— JP Finlay (@JPFinlayNBCS) August 22, 2020
Ron Rivera lit into his team after practice. He told everyone to look at Adrian Peterson and Thomas Davis bc they know what it takes.
— Sam Fortier (@Sam4TR) August 22, 2020
“That’s what we’re not doing, is practicing it the right way every f——— time. ... I can’t accept the way we practice, I’ll tell you that much.”
