Training Camp Press Conference - Head Coach Ron Rivera https://t.co/FlzoiYbozy— Washington Football Team (@WashingtonNFL) August 18, 2020
Since there were no OTAs and minicamps, Rivera knew some players would be a little rusty today. So, he stressed again that they need to do things the way the coaches ask of them. If that happens, then the glory will go to them.— Zach Selby (@ZachDSelby) August 18, 2020
Rivera says they're slowly trying to reintroduce Alex Smith to football. Today was his first 7-on-7 work.— Matthew Paras (@Matthew_Paras) August 18, 2020
Ron Rivera says as long as Dwayne Haskins and every other QB is making good reads, decisions etc that's more important in his mind than accuracy.— Chris Russell AKA The Rooster (@Russellmania621) August 18, 2020
Wouldn't say this was a great practice for Haskins by any reasonable standard. @WSHFootballSI @SInow @1067theFan @LockedWFTPod
Some notes from today’s practice:— Zach Selby (@ZachDSelby) August 18, 2020
- the whole practice had the up tempo feel that Rivera has been talking about lately.
- Haskins looked comfortable directing the offense.
- Haskins and McLaurin’s chemistry was apparent all morning.
- Sweat looked solid in 1-on-1s.
Rivera on Landon Collins: "He's a guy who can circle the troops." He says they're expecting him to be a leader.— Matthew Paras (@Matthew_Paras) August 18, 2020
Rivera: "Very few positions are set right now."— Matthew Paras (@Matthew_Paras) August 18, 2020
Rivera says some of guys have struggled with some of the technique things of going from 3-4 to 4-3 but when the light bulb comes on, they see it...— Chris Russell AKA The Rooster (@Russellmania621) August 18, 2020
Says he can see Kerrigan getting more comfy with hand down in dirt. @WSHFootballSI @SInow @1067theFan @LockedWFTPod
Ryan Anderson wasn't working with team drills and Ron says he won't give injury reports ...dealing with a "minor thing" and Saahdiq Charles is dealing with a minor injury. Hope 1-2 away on both. @WSHFootballSI @SInow @1067theFan @LockedWFTPod— Chris Russell AKA The Rooster (@Russellmania621) August 18, 2020
Rivera says Ryan Anderson and Saahdiq Charles are nursing minor injuries, but doesn't offer specifics. His general policy is not to do so.— Matthew Paras (@Matthew_Paras) August 18, 2020
Michael Phillips - On Alex Smith— Mark Tyler(Hogs Haven) (@Tiller56) August 18, 2020
"He did all the individual drills. I still doubt that he can get cleared for contact before Week 1, but the team views him as more than a decoy. He participated in everything except the portion with a live pass rush"
From Michael Phillips:— Mark Tyler(Hogs Haven) (@Tiller56) August 18, 2020
"At the moment, the wide receivers and cornerbacks have a ways to go to be ready for NFL competition. The cornerbacks looked better than expected, but that may also have been due in part to a weak day by the wide receivers"
Training Camp Press Conference - Steven Sims Jr. https://t.co/Pd8PirS7xa— Washington Football Team (@WashingtonNFL) August 18, 2020
Says in Turner offense, they will be spreading the defenses out more than last season. Then it was double Terry McLaurin and see if someone else can make a play. Says they won’t be able to do that this season the way Turner has guys moving around on offense.— Julie Donaldson (@juliedonaldson_) August 18, 2020
Steve Sims says he feels like the starting slot spot is his job to lose. “I’m working hard and I’m trying to take the spot but there’s work to do”— JP Finlay (@JPFinlayNBCS) August 18, 2020
(Ed. Note - it’s definitely his job)
Landon Collins meets the presshttps://t.co/D6wDC5ssXh— Bill-in-Bangkok (@billhorgan2005) August 18, 2020
Landon Collins grew up a Redskins fan, so I asked him what he's doing with his old gear. He's keeping it. (Terry McLaurin said his old stuff was stashed away in a closet)— Matthew Paras (@Matthew_Paras) August 18, 2020
Landon Collins says it's not fun getting something stuck up your nose (COVID-19 testing) and then having to go out and practice.— Chris Russell AKA The Rooster (@Russellmania621) August 18, 2020
However, he says it has to be done in order to play & he loves playing football. @WSHFootballSI @1067theFan@LockedWFTPod
Landon Collins is up, talking about differences from last season: We are tying to keep the consistency. Jogging to the field, making a play to the ball. This coaching staff is critiquing every part of their performance. Nothing can be half done. #ALLIN— Julie Donaldson (@juliedonaldson_) August 18, 2020

Welcome to Covid-19 Training Camp — only 10 media members allowed each day. All interviews are now via zoom, which means most of the media are doing these in their cars. It’s a weird time, folks. #washingtonfootballteam— Julie Donaldson (@juliedonaldson_) August 18, 2020
Day 1 in the books. Enjoyed it. Saw most of my colleagues for the first time in months. Pads cracking. Not to hot. No major news.— Ben Standig (@BenStandig) August 18, 2020
Gibson is pulling double-duty:— Mark Tyler(Hogs Haven) (@Tiller56) August 18, 2020
"As for the rest of the guys in the receiver room, Sims revealed that Cam Sims is "Cuzzo" (because of their shared last name), Terry McLaurin is "T-Mac" and Antonio Gibson is, well, Antonio Gibson still, but he's someone they'll get to eventually" https://t.co/9fEukohNdQ

From @GMFB: With #Cowboys DL Gerald McCoy losing his season to a ruptured quad tendon, the focus shifts to promising young DLs Trysten Hill and Neville Gallimore -- who were drafted for this reason. pic.twitter.com/v4V29NPnYI— Ian Rapoport (@RapSheet) August 18, 2020
For those questioning why the Cowboys would be so specific in the contract waiver with McCoy, it’s because McCoy previously had issues with that quad and it was flagged by the Cowboys during his initial physical.— Jim Trotter (@JimTrotter_NFL) August 18, 2020

#Giants' Joe Judge seems to be following Bill Belichick's playbook, who uses similar old school tactics during #Patriots training camps. But, Judge has yet to produce a single NFL win, let alone six Super Bowls. Not everyone's convinced his act will work: https://t.co/aaAqtmHfB1— Matt Lombardo (@MattLombardoNFL) August 18, 2020
Landing at 10:31 pm EST. I’m told Dez Bryant was picked up in a white Range Rover curbside. He will undergo two Covid tests ahead of the workout with the expectation that it will happen Thursday if all goes well. https://t.co/URJ4nWeZ9r— Jane Slater (@SlaterNFL) August 18, 2020
I'll just add this for the moment, there's another team out there interested in him no one is really talking about as a 43 DE, but at a different rate clearly. Last time I spoke to him he said he knows teams have money, so there you go. Ha. 5 days ago I was told nothing imminent. https://t.co/4rf95ri55r— IG: JosinaAnderson (@JosinaAnderson) August 18, 2020
Y'all got a lot of questions. I mean, I can find out if u really want to know. More interestingly, I got a call about another WR from an NFC East team yesterday. I'm sure that tape will arrive w/i the next 48 hours. That's more intriguing if things develop after that if u ask me. https://t.co/uqOM3rF5E0— IG: JosinaAnderson (@JosinaAnderson) August 18, 2020

The coolest thing that happened in baseball last night was Fernando Tatis hitting 2 more HR's and driving in 7. This is not high school ball. There's no such thing as running up the score.— Grant Paulsen (@granthpaulsen) August 18, 2020
I get why the Rangers are incorrectly mad. I can't believe his own team was upset at him.
I wish someone would ask one of these managers if they tell their players to give up when facing huge deficits if they think batters shouldn't remain aggressive when up big. https://t.co/jVWuEl5hW7— Ben Standig (@BenStandig) August 18, 2020
