The 2020 NFL Draft is officially over and the Redskins had the final pick to close out this year. The Redskins ended up with a total of 8 picks, and only made one trade during the draft. Trent Williams was finally shipped off to the 49ers, giving them another 5th round pick this year, and a 3rd round pick next year. The Redskins picked and even amount of players on both sides of the ball
The Redskins drafted the best player in the draft when they picked Ohio State DE Chase Young with the #2 overall pick. They didn’t have a 2nd round pick due to last year’s trade up to get Young’s running mate Montez Sweat. That pair will be terrorizing the NFC East together for years to come under the guidance of Head Coach Ron Rivera and Defensive Coordinator Jack Del Rio.
The Redskins surprised a lot of people when they drafted Memphis WR/RB Antonio Gibson, a player they plan to use at RB. The pick was not exactly a vote of confidence for the Redskins young, injured RBs(Derrius Guice, Bryce Love), their aging legend(Adrian Peterson), and their new free agent signings(J.D. McKissic, Peyton Barber). Gibson is raw, and will need a little time, but the coaches love his versatility.
Day 3 saw some picks that got praised and some that made more than a few people scratch their heads. It started off with a bang when Williams was traded. The Redskins waited until they were on the clock to make sure they got their guy in LSU OT Saahdiq Charles. The talented tackle fell due to some drug test issues in college, but has the talent to play guard and tackle.
The Redskins went with a big WR with sure hands with their second pick in the 4th round. It’s been clear that the team wants to put more weapons around 2nd-year QB Dwayne Haskins Jr. and they got they when they picked Liberty WR Antonio Gandy-Golden.
They had two picks in the 5th round and got a new offensive lineman(Keith Ismael, C, San Diego State) and LB(Khaleke Hudson, Michigan. In the 7th round they went with two more defensive players. Their first pick was Arkansas safety Kamren Curl, and the second pick was Arkansas DE James Smith-Williams.
How did the Redskins do in the draft this year? Where did they miss? Which was your favorite pick?
