J.D. McKissic is on of the newest additions to the Redskins running back corps, and he says his versatility and background as a wider receiver will be a huge asset to the team. New Offensive Coordinator Scott Turner has already told him to be prepared for a lot of action of of the backfield this year. He also had high praise for TE Logan Thomas who joins him on the Redskins after playing for the Lions last season.
Comfortable:
McKissic said he's a lot more comfortable and confident as a runner and a receiver than he was earlier in his career.

JD McKissic said on conference call he can tell how comfortable he's getting as a running back. He's letting the blocking scheme progress while becoming more patient and more aggressive. #Redskins

Versatility:
J.D. McKissic: He uses his versatility out of the backfield and in spacing. He said he will always feel like he is a receiver.

McKissic said he's talked to Rivera, Turner and RBs coach Randy Jordan. He envisions the #Redskins will want to get him out in space, use his versatility, motion him in the backfield and "create a hazard for the defense."

Feels like a receiver:
McKissic said he will always feel like he's a receiver. Was a WR in high school and college before switching to RB in the NFL. When he went to Detroit, he was able to focus on running between tackles, which he said has helped his game out a lot. #Redskins

McKissic said he'll always think of himself as a wide receiver because that's what he's always been. He's still the Sun Belt's all-time receptions leader dating back to his time at Arkansas State.

McKissic said his WR skills "set me apart." He can run a variety of routes -- curls, comebacks, go's, etc... Again, saw that on film and it's different than most RBs.

Adrian Peterson:
McKissic: "I'm honored to be in a room with Adrian Peterson" He says he's looking forward to the competition.

McKissic: "Competition is what it's about." He said he's honored to be in the same room as Adrian Peterson. He mentioned there are a lot of great young backs on the roster that did great things in college. #Redskins

Scott Turner:
JD McKissic just said Scott Turner told him he's going to get his catches in 2020... but he shouldn't expect to get 100 like Christian McCaffrey did

McKissic has been in contact with OC Scott Turner, and one thing that sticks out to him from those conversations is that RBs are "very important to him." #Redskins

Logan Thomas:
McKissic was impressed with Logan Thomas, who switched from QB to TE. "I thought he was the guy. He loves blocking." #Redskins
— Zach Selby (@ZachDSelby) April 1, 2020
Just occurred to me that JD McKissic and Logan Thomas are not only former teammates, but both are dudes who switched positions to make it in the NFL. McKissic thinks Thomas is ready for a bigger role with the #Redskins
