New Redskins QB Kyle Allen spoke to local reporters today. He has been quarantined in California during to the coronavirus pandemic. He has been working out with Jets QB Sam Darnold, and is experiencing the same cabin fever other people have felt during this lockdown. Allen was surprised he was traded by the Panthers, but was happy to reunite with Scott Turner and Ron Rivera in Washington. His familiarity with Turner’s system will be a big plus coming into the season, especially if the offseason is shortened or eliminated completely. He fully expects to compete with Dwayne Haskns Jr. for the Redskins starting job. He was also high on the Redskins young wide receivers.

Kyle Allen gives insight into HC Ron Rivera concept of competition. When in Carolina was 4th QB, Rivera said “You’re gonna get your chances, take advantage of the reps.” I’m told Haskins will start with 1-2’s, but Allen — will have his chances. #httr #redskins

Continuity with Scott Turner:

— George Wallace (@GWallaceWTOP) March 31, 2020
Allen said the #Redskins are getting a "really good young coach" in offensive coordinator Scott Turner. Also helps that he's studied under his father, Norv Turner, for all of his life.

Kyle Allen says his knowledge of HC Ron Rivera & Scott Turners system is “Huge for me and big for the team. If no OTA’s I can be someone to teach other guys. Teach the language.” He’s been there for 2 years, can be able to communicate it to everyone. #httr #Redskins #leadership

Learning Turner’s system:
Kyle Allen says it took him a solid month, month-and-a-half to learn the Turner system. "It's tough to grasp at first," he said. He says there are tons of formations, but noted that repetitions helped him grasp it.
— Matthew Paras (@Matthew_Paras) March 31, 2020
Allen said it's a really good offensive system, but added it takes some time to grasp. It took him about a month, month and a half out at practice going through plays to become comfortable. Said the calls are long and there are a ton of formations and plays. Repetition is crucial

Ron Rivera:
Allen said the first day he got to Carolina, Rivera told him that he was going to have a chance to make an impact. Allen was the fourth-string quarterback at the time, so Allen said it meant a lot for Rivera to single him out and encourage him.
