The #Redskins sent a 5th round pick to the #Panthers in exchange for QB Kyle Allen, source said. With Carolina signing PJ Walker today, this helps the QB room take shape.

A backup man, relax. pic.twitter.com/DRZkDWYnd4
— Alex Castello (@alexcastello29) March 23, 2020
To the people downplaying a QB competition, the head coach said there would be one repeatedly and now he acquired the guy who started the most games for him last year. Take issue with the coach if you disagree, not me. :-) https://t.co/KV2GZprerg
— Ben Standig (@BenStandig) March 23, 2020
The Redskins wanted to add a quarterback who could start if needed, but who also knew how to handle a backup... https://t.co/SZnVE6qiQT
— John Keim (@john_keim) March 23, 2020
After a failed run at receiver Amari Cooper, the Redskins' free agent approach has been to add depth and low risk... https://t.co/kD5MEKb80o
— John Keim (@john_keim) March 23, 2020
I like the Redskins trading a 5th rd pick to Carolina for Kyle Allen. The Redskins were likely going to draft a backup to groom late anyway. Now they have one with pro experience who knows that Turner offense. Great move. Solid backup to Haskins. #HTTR pic.twitter.com/ucYzEzOacO
— Ed Sheahin (@NFLPhotoGuy) March 23, 2020
You were on the Panthers? Then you a Redskin pic.twitter.com/2QZaC8dZgc
— Not Robert Griffin (@Pseudo_RGIII) March 23, 2020
Ha. I know things. Alas, not all. But I knew that for sure.
— John Keim (@john_keim) March 23, 2020
Any reason to believe that Kyle Allen is better than a QB who would be taken in the fifth round? https://t.co/CUM4TPFlbx
— Aaron Schatz (@FO_ASchatz) March 23, 2020
OK, good point about the OTAs. Same offense he played in for Carolina, I believe.
— Aaron Schatz (@FO_ASchatz) March 23, 2020
You have to consider fit when building a team. That applies to the Kyle Allen trade. Was a key component. Smart; good arm. reliable backup: capable of starting; understands backup role. Will fit with Haskins in the room. Big: knows the O; can help DH in odd offseason
— John Keim (@john_keim) March 23, 2020
So Ron & co. have 1) said they had high grade on Dwayne 2) gone from lecturing him to do more to acknowledging he is doing more 3) passed on ultra-deep FA QB class & 4) acquired Kyle Allen as “very competitive competition.” Dwayne is #Redskins’ QB1, & onus now on him to thrive.
— Al Galdi (@AlGaldi) March 23, 2020
Comp update: Seahawks are sending Washington a 5th-round pick in exchange for CB Quinton Dunbar, per source.
— Adam Schefter (@AdamSchefter) March 23, 2020
So Redskins trade a 5 for QB Kyle Allen, get back a 5 for Dunbar.
“Bingo” with all the obstacles I’ve had to over come nothing was ever handed to me it’s funny how critics want to do everything but give me credit for the hard work I put in from being a former undrafted wr to a decent cb if I was really being shop and I’ll be gone by now
— Quinton Dunbar (@chosen1_47) March 23, 2020
naw fam I love the fams I love everything about washington but from a respect stand point it’s lost
— Quinton Dunbar (@chosen1_47) March 23, 2020
They’re not going to get a lot anyway. Has missed too many games. At best a 3 or a 4. But they don’t have to trade. Need multiple CBs. Dunbar is good and inexpensive.
— John Keim (@john_keim) March 23, 2020
Yes it can be an issue. Dunbar will get a bigger contract If he goes out and plays well and stays healthy. Hard to see any team giving up picks and signing him to a contract he wants. That will limit.
— John Keim (@john_keim) March 23, 2020
Dunbar played at an All-Pro level when healthy last year. An injury and a contract disunite later...5th rounder. https://t.co/qxDM4NQS2q
— Craig Hoffman (@CraigHoffman) March 23, 2020
I can see the Cowboys inquiring about Nicholson. Has a lot of the HWS traits that they liked about Byron Jones.
— George Carmi (@Gcarmi21) March 24, 2020
Familiarity with Clinton-Dix. Jones likes to take shots on players with character issues.
Would it surprise you if he thrived there? #Redskins https://t.co/3GkW3Vjpnu
When Dunbar's trade demand was first made, I reached out to a few people about his value. Most said probably a 4th. What hurt: injuries; also sure some teams questioned his handling of this. Didn't help. Loved how Dunbar made himself into a good CB. but...1/2
— John Keim (@john_keim) March 23, 2020
Dunbar's rise was excellent. Studied. Worked. But if you're a first year coach who doesn't know the player and all u know is that he's good, but hasn't played 16 games? You'll take what you get and move on. Other teams were offering 6/7th round picks. That was the value.
— John Keim (@john_keim) March 23, 2020
also: I have no clue if the Skins strategy will pay off this season or not. it's different and there are definite changes. More than adding FA's etc, I'm curious to see impact on field, in building, etc. That would be bigger than another player addition.
— John Keim (@john_keim) March 24, 2020
Quinton Dunbar was not happy and had asked to be traded. I guess if you're Ron Rivera and a player wants out and doesn't want to meet with you, you say goodbye?
— Grant Paulsen (@granthpaulsen) March 23, 2020
But the #Redskins viewed him as their CB-1, which seems more valuable than a 5th round pick to me.
Thing that surprises me: #Redskins had leverage. Quinton Dunbar is not Trent Williams. He couldn't sit out the season, especially under the new CBA. They could've just told him they'd see him in July.
— Grant Paulsen (@granthpaulsen) March 23, 2020
Perhaps the trade was a message that they want guys who are all the way in?
The bottom line on trading Quinton Dunbar according to 'Skins folks I've checked in with: The team didn't like how he was handling things publicly. New sheriff in town had enough.
— Grant Paulsen (@granthpaulsen) March 23, 2020
They decided it was time to move on and they took the best offer they had.
#Redskins release S Montae Nicholson (and all the CB’s they signed late last year)
— Craig Hoffman (@CraigHoffman) March 23, 2020
Nicholson played at an extraordinarily level for about the first five games of his career and then it just went downhill on and off the field. Hope he lands in a nurturing place. pic.twitter.com/IhWeNrNldn
In a lot of ways Montae Nicholson defined the Bruce Allen era in the draft. They rolled the dice a lot in the hopes of getting extra value (Breeland, Moreau, Love, Sweat, Guice). Sometimes it worked. But it's tough to build that way.
— michael phillips (@michaelpRTD) March 23, 2020
Redskins' CB position:
— Grant Paulsen (@granthpaulsen) March 23, 2020
CB: Fabian Moreau
CB: Jimmy Moreland
Slot: Kendall Fuller
Reserves: Danny Johnson, Simeon Thomas
CB probably just became the #Redskins' biggest need.
We didn't give Kendall Fuller 10 million a season to play slot. This isn't hard to figure out.
— (@CultureChan9e) March 23, 2020
— Bashaud Breeland (@Bree2Land6) March 23, 2020

I have been told an NFC East team is doing their due diligence on Montae Nicholson. The right leadership can help him. A smart athlete with good hands and feet. Needs a strong support system. An Incentive laden contract. #httr #redskins

Regarding #Cowboys center Frederick's retirement. He will carry $11.04 million in dead money when they actually process the retirement unless its delayed until after June 1. He may also want to make certain there is no repayment of bonus money in there.
