The Redskins have reportedly traded for Carolina Panthers QB Kyle Allen. Washington will send Carolina a 5th round pick. The Panthers are trying to trade Cam Newton, but will likely end up releasing him.
They signed Teddy Bridgewater early in free agency to be their starter, and just signed XFL star P.J. Walker to a two year deal. This left the third QB spot between Allen and last year's 3rd round pick Will Grier, and they went with Grier.
Kyle Allen was an undrafted QB from Houston in 2018. Head Coach Ron Rivera and Offensive Coordinator Scott Turner are obviously very familiar with him. Allen is the only healthy back up on the roster now to support Dwayne Haskins Jr.
Allen signed a 1-year extension with the Panthers worth $675,000 this year. He will be a restricted free agent after the season if the Redskins don't sign him to an extension.
This was the logical move after the #Panthers signed P.J. Walker. Allen reunites with Ron Rivera and his old QB coach, Scott Turner. https://t.co/7OrP6GrHj4

With Dwayne Haskins having the best chance to be the starter (pending the draft), Kyle Allen comes in as the backup at the least. A QB that coach Ron Rivera has a lot of trust in. https://t.co/DX69kS8zbz
