UPDATE: Ron Rivera didn't meet with Tua?
To add to this, a source said Haskins’ name wasn’t mentioned directly during the meeting. But Tua was supposedly told there would be a competition. https://t.co/XN9ClJWIGr

A new day, and a new rumor is here for us to dissect. We know Ron Rivera met with Tua Tagovailoa at the NFL Scouting Combine this weekend, and he plans to bring him in for a pre-draft visit. The Redskins hold the #2 overall pick in the draft this year, and are expected to have their choice of players not named Joe Burrow.
This opens up the speculation about the Redskins plans with their first pick. Chase Young has been linked to the Redskins since the season ended. There has also been speculation about trading down to add more premium picks to help reshape the team in Ron Rivera’s image.
Quarterback is the biggest position to secure in the NFL, and the Redskins seemingly did that last year when they drafted Dwayne Haskins Jr. with the 15th pick. Haskins has had a rough start to his pro career, and has faced criticism, rumors, and more from all directions. Dan Snyder was reportedly the driving force behind Haskins selection. Would he green light Rivera taking another 1st round QB so soon?
That seems to be the narrative the Redskins are trying to push, and while Haskins struggled early last year, he did show improvement as the season progressed. There are definitely people that feel Haskins isn’t the answer and if you get a chance to get a potentially great QB you take it.
That leads us to the latest rumor from the Scouting Combine from the South Florida Sun Sentinel.
New coach Ron Rivera told Tagovailoa he wants to bring him to Washington to compete with second-year quarterback Dwayne Haskins during their meeting at the NFL combine, a source told the South Florida Sun Sentinel.
“They felt like Dwayne was not the guy right now,” the source said. “They want to bring in Tua, just get it going and compete.”

So Rivera told Tua that the plan is to bring him to Washington to compete with Dwayne Haskins Jr. The writer’s source also adds that they don’t think Haskins is the guy right now, and they want to bring in competition. Rivera has talked about bringing in competition, but mentioned a veteran. Tua got good news about his recovery from the hip injury that ended his final season at Alabama. Would he be ready to play Week 1? Maybe, but what happens to Haskins if he wins the job?
The article mentions Tua preferring to play for the Miami Dolphins, but they would likely have to trade up if they really want to get him. There have been reports that both the Detroit Lions(#3 overall) and New York Giants(#4 overall) are interested in trading down. The stories being put out now make it necessary to trade up to #2 if Miami is serious about drafting Tua. The Redskins would likely need a massive haul to pass on the chance to draft Chase Young, who Rivera is reportedly very high on.
The smoke keeps pouring out of Redskins camp...
