All atwitter will be posted at the beginning of every day (at midnight in Washington, DC). The goal is to give readers a handy spot to check the Redskins beat writers & bloggers, and national sports journalists to keep up on the latest news about the Redskins, the NFL, and sports in general, along with a smattering of other things.

The committee of GMs formed to consider changes requested the second weight due to the extended time in Indy and gap between initial weigh-in and workout day, I’m told. Similar to a pro day, it's important to know the weight on the day of workout.

The Falcons GM confirmed today they plan on letting TE Austin Hooper hit the free agent market. Washington desperately needs a TE, so I broke down what he’d bring to the #Redskins offense https://t.co/I6STEuIFxc

The thing I’d question is if he overlapped with the Turners. But he’s the same kinda guy as Jarius Wright, who the Panthers just released. He followed the Turners from Minn to Carolina. Not WR1, but can play multiple spots and knows the system/culture and provides vet leadership
— Mark Bullock (@MarkBullockNFL) February 26, 2020
Biggest takeaways from Kyle Smith and Ron Rivera speaking the last 2 days is that this team is being evaluated by competent, professional adults who will do whatever it takes to regain trust and build a winning attitude in the locker room. I’m excited for the future. #Redskins

The #Redskins think they're capable of a quick one-year turnaround. With plenty of cap space, they'll be aggressive in free agency. Austin Hooper, Kenyan Drake, Amari Cooper among potential targets if those players reach free agency.

From @NFLTotalAccess: The proposed CBA will now head out to a vote of the players. And it'll take some time. pic.twitter.com/EqQEMz2Zhj
— Ian Rapoport (@RapSheet) February 27, 2020
A few notes on NFLPA reps voting overnight to pass along proposed CBA to all players:
— Tom Pelissero (@TomPelissero) February 26, 2020
- Vote was 17-14 (1 abstained)
- Owners agreed to remove $250K cap on 17th game check for existing contracts, but rejected proposal to shorten offseason
- Timing of final vote to ratify TBD
The NFLPA board of representatives voted to send the proposed CBA to the full membership, meaning now only a simple majority of the nearly 2,000 players is needed to ratify. The thinking has been that vote is a virtual certainty. On the 1-yard line towards 10 years of labor peace
— Tom Pelissero (@TomPelissero) February 26, 2020
If the proposed CBA is ratified by a majority of all NFL players, expanded playoffs go into effect in the '20 season. The 17-game season goes into effect sometime between '21 and '23 seasons. Players get 48 percent of revenues in a 16-game season, 48.5 percent in 17-game season.
— MarkMaske (@MarkMaske) February 26, 2020
New CBA that full player membership now will vote on would implement a 17th game no earlier than 2021 and expand the playoffs. It also caps the number of regular season games at 17 for the 10-year deal.

I think it's been clear since talks got serious that the union was going to find a way to pass this through.
— Jason_OTC (@Jason_OTC) February 26, 2020
Why did you vote yes my brother?
— Robert Griffin III (@RGIII) February 26, 2020
That’s funny bro. We are a part of a union. We have to make hard decisions for the majority of our membership. 65+% are on minimum contracts. Every one of those guys gets paid more, better benefits, and better work conditions. https://t.co/Nrz6TlwIfV
— Nick Sundberg (@NickSundberg) February 27, 2020
That’s a super easy thing to say. “Just get more.” But at what cost? Two years of a strike? We’d lose over 13 billion in player money in that time. Say we get to 50/50 after that. It’ll take 20+ years to recoup those lost funds. And guys careers will end because of that action. https://t.co/p6HFGrrNO3
— Nick Sundberg (@NickSundberg) February 26, 2020
You’ve got 6 XFL teams and probably 6000 collage kids coming out this year and next to fill rosters while we picket. You gonna be on the front lines at the stadium and facility every day fighting this? https://t.co/gvLiRKaRMe
— Nick Sundberg (@NickSundberg) February 26, 2020
The CBA ratification vote of all players could be a week or two off, source said, while the formal document is drafted first. NFL and NFLPA are meeting today, same source said, to decide operational rules (franchise tags, etc.) in the meantime, pending the players' final vote.
— MarkMaske (@MarkMaske) February 26, 2020
The NFL plans to open the franchise and transition tag window Thursday, and under rules of the Final League Year, teams can use both. However, if/when a new CBA is ratified, its full terms take effect immediately, so the NFLPA would expect any team that used 2 tags to vacate 1.

One of the most strident dissenters weighs in https://t.co/RV9OlOzGVd
— Ian Rapoport (@RapSheet) February 26, 2020
So I encourage all of you to get with your Reps and empower yourself so you can make an informed decision. There are a lot of details in this proposal that are not in the term sheet that was leaked! I was told we have approximately two weeks before the players will vote!
— Calais Campbell (@CalaisCampbell) February 26, 2020
Hopefully the players take their time in examining and getting opinions on the cba proposal and dont just rush into a vote, for or against. 10 years is a long time and mainly you are voting for the futures of players who are not even close to being in the NFL yet.
— Jason_OTC (@Jason_OTC) February 26, 2020
Nope. Just whatever was put out which mainly sounded like raises to minimum salaries as the main thing
— Jason_OTC (@Jason_OTC) February 26, 2020
Wonder if we'll see some teams hold off on cutting certain players in hopes of being able to use a June 1 designation on those contract terminations.
— Nick Korte (@nickkorte) February 26, 2020
Also, the retention of the 30% rule could delay extensions if they would impede preferred contract structures. https://t.co/p45R0KnY0p
Reminder: whenever you read or hear of a dollar amount for the league as a whole, divide it by 32 - so while $100,000,000 is a large number, that’s $3,125,000 a club - and while that is a real cost, to most clubs it is a proverbial rounding error.
— Amy Trask (@AmyTrask) February 26, 2020
Ron Rivera just told the media this is about not closing the door on anything. Called Dwayne Haskins a “good young player.” Is pleased when he does his rounds in the building, he sees Haskins. “You walk by the weight room, he’s there. You walk by the locker room, he’s there.” https://t.co/ituneSsN8Q
— Mike Garafolo (@MikeGarafolo) February 26, 2020
At today's press conference, Ron Rivera specifically addressed @ColeHolcomb_ as someone he found "intriguing" and could "play out in space."

Following two days of medical testing, #Bama QB Tua Tagovailoa received overwhelmingly positive reports on his dislocated hip from teams who examined him, sources say. The MRIs were as clean as hoped, fracture is healed, there is no loss of blood flow. One source: “Looked great."

Just one, in 2018. Has come back from that
— Mark Bullock (@MarkBullockNFL) February 26, 2020
I addressed that in the piece. It’s a lazy criticism imo. He missed 2 games with a freak lacerated kidney in his rookie year. Missed 2018 with the ACL which he came back from. Had a freak “tibia plateau fracture” this year but came back in 4 weeks.
— Mark Bullock (@MarkBullockNFL) February 26, 2020
An important focus for the #Browns heading into 2020: QB Baker Mayfield’s fitness and body makeup. From what I understand, he put on some weight last year to bulk up and lost some quickness. His plan is to be slimmer & faster this year, with an emphasis on being in better shape.
— Ian Rapoport (@RapSheet) February 26, 2020
The #Lions signed WR Danny Amendola to a one-year, $5 million extension that includes $4.5M guaranteed, source said. He’d get $5.5M if he produces like last year — max with incentives is $6M. Another solid payday at age 34.
— Tom Pelissero (@TomPelissero) February 26, 2020
The #Redskins have a big need at TE and Hunter Henry is one of the top free agents set to hit the market. I broke down his game, detailing:
— Mark Bullock (@MarkBullockNFL) February 26, 2020
- Dynamic receiving ability
- “Injury prone”
- Can he block?

1) Hopkins and Fitzgerald have had nearly identical careers, in terms of receptions per season.
— Football Perspective (@fbgchase) February 26, 2020
2) I don't think Fitz is going to get to Rice: he's still 171 receptions away, despite a 239 catch lead thru age 36.
3) It's crazy early but Michael Thomas seems like a real threat. pic.twitter.com/pH1fsvcOBm
Im continually amazed that there are a million #QBGurus out there working with the masses... and I’ve got no NFL/College QBs that want to get a workout with me? Not sure what Im missing, but obviously something! Any of you #QBGurus want to bounce anything off me, lmk!
