Washington safety Deshazor Everett had surgery today and went on IR, per team. He left the game Sunday with a chest injury.
— Sam Fortier (@Sam4TR) December 17, 2020
Early this morning, Everett posted an IG story, apparently from the hospital, saying, "They know what it is so y'all don't need to worry."
Full post: pic.twitter.com/LepUOKKzBC
Deshazor Everett suffered a pec injury, Ron Rivera said. He left the game against the 49ers with what was said at the time to be a chest injury. He had also been on the injury report earlier in the season (Weeks 11-13) with an ankle issue.
— Nicki Jhabvala (@NickiJhabvala) December 17, 2020
Losing Everett is tough. Steadied the secondary; physical presence and a good leader. Reaves has done a nice job when in the game; helps to have a smart rook such as Curl at the other safety spot.
— John Keim (@john_keim) December 17, 2020
Jeremy Reaves:
Ron Rivera confirms Deshazor Everett is going on IR. On Jeremy Reaves: "He's kind of like this team, the more he plays, the more confidence he gets."
— Matthew Paras (@Matthew_Paras) December 17, 2020
Antonio Gibson:
Rivera said he is "very hopeful" to have Antonio Gibson back this season, even if he doesn't play this weekend against the Seahawks.
— Zach Selby (@ZachDSelby) December 17, 2020
Lamar Miller:
Ron Rivera said he's "very hopeful" that Antonio Gibson will return at some point in the stretch run... Called signing of RB Lamar Miller an "insurance policy" just in case. Reminder: Miller can't play until next week vs. Carolina.
— John Keim (@john_keim) December 17, 2020
Jonathan Allen:
Jon Allen's power and punch has stuck out to Rivera. You can see his strength and power in the way he plays.
— Zach Selby (@ZachDSelby) December 17, 2020
Antonio Gandy-Golden:

— michael phillips (@michaelpRTD) December 17, 2020
Rivera Antonio Gandy-Golden has been playing well since he was designated to return. He's been looking good running the scout team, but Rivera wants to make sure he's ready and the team doesn't rush him back.
— Zach Selby (@ZachDSelby) December 17, 2020
Ron Rivera on Antonio Gandy-Golden, who is back at practice but still on IR: "We've been working on his conditioning, he's been doing a good job running scout team, running routes." Rivera said he's eager to see AGG back out there, but only when he's 100 percent ready.
— Nicki Jhabvala (@NickiJhabvala) December 17, 2020
Rivera on Antonio Gandy-Golden: "Doing well... Biggest thing is his conditioning; goes quickly with WRs... Good job running the scout team and routes. He made a play today that was impressive. ... Can't wait to see him back out there."
— John Keim (@john_keim) December 17, 2020
Attitude is free:
Rivera is wearing a shirt during today's press conference that reads "attitude is free". That pretty sums up a core quality of the culture he's establishing in Washington.
— Zach Selby (@ZachDSelby) December 17, 2020

Proceeds to go the Center for the Intrepid. Very cool. https://t.co/WvFZyB9uMd
Quinton Dunbar:
Asked about Quinton Dunbar playing for Seattle, Ron Rivera says he’s not going to talk about another teams players but he’s happy Dunny has found a good landing spot
— JP Finlay (@JPFinlayNBCS) December 17, 2020
Underdogs:
Rivera believes Washington has embraced the "underdog" mentality, and there have been many opportunities this season for the team to rise above it. Sunday's game against the Seahawks, who are five-point favorites. will provide another chance.
— Zach Selby (@ZachDSelby) December 17, 2020
Defense vs mobile QBs:
Washington will play another mobile quarterback in Russell Wilson. Lamar Jackson and Kyler Murray both had success against the defense, and Rivera said that was due to a lack of discipline. They'll need to tighten up against Wilson, who Rivera called "the ultimate escape artist."
— Zach Selby (@ZachDSelby) December 17, 2020
Something to look for Sunday — if you see a bunch of Washington players in the same area when rushing Russ Wilson, that's BAD. Ron doesn't want his defense following guys in the same colored jerseys as them. If they fill all the lanes as opposed to one or two, they have a chance
— Pete Hailey (@PeteHaileyNBCS) December 17, 2020
Cole Luke:
Cole Luke will be the 4th S...
— John Keim (@john_keim) December 17, 2020
Chase Young:
Rivera said Chase Young's play in training camp where he took down Adrian Peterson for a loss at the goal line has stuck in his mind. That's when he knew Young could be leader on the field based on the way he plays.
— Zach Selby (@ZachDSelby) December 17, 2020
Paying more attention to the offense:
Rivera said he is paying a lot more attention on the offense than he ever has. He tries to make sure he is over with the offense more often rather than mostly on the defense to be more balanced.
— Zach Selby (@ZachDSelby) December 17, 2020
Ron Rivera is paying a lot more attention to the offensive side of the ball than he did in Carolina. "I'm trying to manage a little more balance... I'm trying to be conscious of where I'm going to lock in to." You don't always hear that from defensive-minded guys
— Pete Hailey (@PeteHaileyNBCS) December 17, 2020
Rivera said this was something he had been thinking about just looking back on his tenure in CAR. He felt he didn't give enough attention to the offense.
— Nicki Jhabvala (@NickiJhabvala) December 17, 2020
"Part of my issue is going through the recovery phase, still lagging/ with what I want to do."https://t.co/pZNWEBLHUe
Jack Del Rio Presser
Deshazor Everett:
I’ve talked at length about the physicality Deshazor Everett brings to the Washington defense. That’s a big loss. Jack Del Rio says so too
— JP Finlay (@JPFinlayNBCS) December 17, 2020
Jack Del Rio is addressing the media right now. With Deshazor Everett going on IR, Del Rio said the defense will miss him. He expects the players who replace him to play well.
— Zach Selby (@ZachDSelby) December 17, 2020
Montez Sweat:
Del Rio says Montez Sweat has been outstanding, fantastic and had a fine season. He's one of the best edge players in the business, and he along with Chase Young have made for a formidable group.
— Zach Selby (@ZachDSelby) December 17, 2020
Seahawks offense:
Del Rio said Seattle is one of the elite offenses with one of the elite QBs. They run and throw the ball well, and this will be a big challenge for the defense. They're gearing up for a battle.
— Zach Selby (@ZachDSelby) December 17, 2020
D.K. Metcalf:
Del Rio laughed when asked what challenges DK Metcalf presents. "The guy's a monster," he said. He can run, catch and has speed.
— Zach Selby (@ZachDSelby) December 17, 2020
Kamren Curl:
Del Rio said Kamren Curl is "unflappable." He works hard, and "the guy just got it" in the film room in the offseason. He's sharp, Del Rio said, and a quick thinker.
— Zach Selby (@ZachDSelby) December 17, 2020
"Football makes sense to him." -- "Every time he's been given something, he takes advantage of it." https://t.co/pjfgTFVaKC
— Chris Russell AKA The Rooster (@Russellmania621) December 17, 2020
Jack Del Rio on Kam Curl: “Unflappable.” on zoom sessions, before they’d been on the field, he stood out for his knowledge of the D. “Coaches are saying, this guy is impressive; he’s sharp; he’s a quick thinker.” During some ‘fun games’ Curl’s response times always at the top.
— John Keim (@john_keim) December 17, 2020
Late round draft picks developing:
Del Rio said he's been pleased with the development of the team's lower round draft picks. Even if they aren't heavily featured players, they still want to carve out a role for them. Mentioned Khaleke Hudson, who was part of the goal line stand in Pittsburgh.
— Zach Selby (@ZachDSelby) December 17, 2020
Chase Roullier
Frank Ragnow playing with a fractured throat:
Asked Chase Roullier about Lions center Frank Ragnow who played last week with a fractured.throat. Chase explained he could barely imagine doing so but did say if there was a year to do it, 2020 is it because you can be a taddddd quieter on the line
— Pete Hailey (@PeteHaileyNBCS) December 17, 2020
Jamal Adams:
Chase Roullier on Jamal Adams: "We're always going to know where he is... We've been putting together a great game plan in order to combat some of the things he does very well." Adams has 8.5 sacks. Yeah, 8.5
— Pete Hailey (@PeteHaileyNBCS) December 17, 2020
Contract:
Washington center Chase Roullier said he'd love to stay in Washington but leaves all contract matters up to his agent while in season. His rookie deal expires after this season.
— Nicki Jhabvala (@NickiJhabvala) December 17, 2020
Offensive line meshing:
Why has the WFT O-line meshed so well, especially in the interior, as of late? The answer is simple for Chase Roullier: consistency and health pic.twitter.com/6FAcmTD5vo
— Pete Hailey (@PeteHaileyNBCS) December 18, 2020
Terry McLaurin
D.K. Metcalf:
Terry McLaurin on DK Metcalf: "I think there's a respect there from both sides for each other's game and how hard we play."
— Kyle Stackpole (@kylefstackpole) December 17, 2020
Tried to get Terry McLaurin to open up a bit about competing with DK Metcalf this weekend. Key word: tried. "It's not me vs. him, it's Seattle vs. Washington." The guy is just too classy and smart and team-oriented
— Pete Hailey (@PeteHaileyNBCS) December 17, 2020
1,000+ yard season:
Terry McLaurin on going over 1,000 yards: "It felt good... It felt better to win... First time I've ever had that in my football career so that part is cool. It's even better that we're on a win streak now."
— John Keim (@john_keim) December 17, 2020
Stats:
McLaurin says "I don't put emphasis on stats"; says he puts much more emphasis on ways that he can impact his team, whether it's blocking or anything else.
— John Keim (@john_keim) December 17, 2020
Leadership:
McLaurin also says as a leader, it's his job to help make sure that success doesn't get to anyone and they are focused on Seattle.
— Chris Russell AKA The Rooster (@Russellmania621) December 17, 2020
Was a much better answer than that but hell if I can remember how he said it. https://t.co/37tS9z4gjv
Kamren Curl
Deshazor Everett:
Kam Curl on Deshazor Everett placed on IR: "I'm praying for my guy and hopefully a speedy recovery, but it's next man up."
— Ben Standig (@BenStandig) December 17, 2020
Kam Curl on Deshazor Everett going on Injured Reserve: "I hated to see that, but somebody has to step up."
— Kyle Stackpole (@kylefstackpole) December 17, 2020
Curl understands this because he had to step up when Landon Collins went down.
7th round draft pick:
Kam Curl on Deshazor Everett going on Injured Reserve: "I hated to see that, but somebody has to step up."
— Kyle Stackpole (@kylefstackpole) December 17, 2020
Curl understands this because he had to step up when Landon Collins went down.
Chase Young
Leadership:
Chase Young says he just tries to be the best teammate and player he can be. Leadership just kinda comes naturally in that process.
— JP Finlay (@JPFinlayNBCS) December 17, 2020
Montez Sweat:
Young just rattled off Sweat's exact number of sacks and passes defensed. This guy is tuned in to everything. https://t.co/JwqUhDv5gD
— Kyle Stackpole (@kylefstackpole) December 17, 2020
Best NFL tandem:
Chase Young says he looks at TJ Watt and Bud Dupree as one of the best tandems in the league and would like to emulate that
— JP Finlay (@JPFinlayNBCS) December 17, 2020
Chase Young on if he and Montez Sweat are already one of the best pass-rushing tandems in the NFL: "I'll let the people speak on that. ...I know Montez is gonna ball, I know we're going to continue to get better, and that's all I care about."
— Kyle Stackpole (@kylefstackpole) December 17, 2020
Young said he and Montez Sweat have talked about being one of the best tandems in the NFL: "Why not talk about being the best? To be the best you've got to talk about it; it has to be something you think about every day."
— John Keim (@john_keim) December 17, 2020
Sean Taylor:
"Don't even put me in that sentence with him man... I don't even deserve that yet... He's got his own spot."
— Pete Hailey (@PeteHaileyNBCS) December 17, 2020
Chase Young on some of the comparisons he's getting to Sean Taylor. The right answer too
Jonathan Allen/Daron Payne:
"Jon and Payne one of the best to do it in the league."
— Kyle Stackpole (@kylefstackpole) December 17, 2020
-- Chase Young on fellow @WashingtonNFL D-linemen Jon Allen and Daron Payne
Defensive Line:
This is without Matt Ioannidis since early week 3 & a dude I was hopeful for as a reserve, Caleb Brantley. https://t.co/mBwnJb59zd
— Chris Russell AKA The Rooster (@Russellmania621) December 17, 2020
Early success:
Asked Young how he stays grounded despite early success: "We haven't arrived yet."
— John Keim (@john_keim) December 17, 2020
