Steven Sims Jr. injured his toe against the Arizona Cardinals in Week 2, and has been limited by it ever since. Washington has placed him on injured reserve, giving him time to heal and opening up a needed roster spot. Sims can return after 3 weeks due to the modified IR rules in place this year because of COVID-19 concerns. Sims will continue to be replaced by WR Isaiah Wright in the slot and on returns.

The corresponding move was to sign OL Joshua Garnett who has been elevated to the active roster the last two weeks. Garnett was ineligible to be called up again after exhausting both of his free elevator tickets, so he was the next man up if a roster spot opened. Garnett has served as a backup OL since Brandon Scherff was placed on IR. Right guard Wes Schweitzer hasn't practiced all week with an elbow injury.

Washington also signed K Kaare Vedvik to the practice squad to replace Garnett. Brett Maher had been on the practice squad for the first few weeks of the season, but was released. Vedvik, like Maher, can kick and punt, and is an available backup for both positions if an injury happens during the week.

Earlier this week Washington waived WR Jordan Veasy from IR.

Joshua Garnett was on of the 4 possible players Washington could protect on Tuesday. He is now signed to the 53-man roster. The other two protected players this week are OL Ross Pierschbacher and DB Jeremy Reaves.

Washington finally added a RB to their practice squad, signing former Buffalo Bills 5th round pick Jonathan Williams. Bryce Love was placed on IR due to knee swelling, leaving the team with only 3 RBs in the roster. Williams is now available to be elevated on game day if needed.
