Ron Rivera didn’t hold his usual Monday presser today, he was a little busy having his last cancer treatment! Instead of Rivera, the Washington Football Team provided Offensive Coordinator Scott Turner and Defensive Coordinator Jack Del Rio to the media.
Kyle Allen did a great job vs the Cowboys, especially on third downs and with his decision making according to Scott Turner. Allen did a good job of getting big plays and playing turnover-free football. Turner wants to see him avoid sacks by getting the ball out quicker.
The Rams game two weeks ago was about as bad as it could get for the offense(and the entire team). Turner was happy that his players were able to bounce back over the past two games, and put that performance in the past. The team is focused on improving every week, and there are young players on this team looking to have long careers in the NFL.
Terry McLaurin has been a pro since Day 1. Turner and the WRs coaches have been pushing F1 to get even better in his 2nd year. Turner liked McLaurin’s speech at the end of Sunday’s game. McLaurin is a lead by example kind of player, so when a guy that has that kind of ability talks, people listen.
Kyle Allen:
Turner: "I think Kyle [Allen] did a great job." Really liked that he was hitting receivers downfield. Also praised his decision making and third-down efficiency.

Turner thought Kyle Allen did a great job of getting big plays and playing turnover-free football. The offense showed improvement on third downs.

Avoiding sacks:
Scott Turner really liked how Kyle Allen performed. He said he made good decisions and allowed Washington to keep the ball. The only nitpick: He would have liked to see a zero sack game. He felt Allen's two sacks could have been avoided by getting the ball out.

Bouncing back from their Rams performance:
Turner admits the team is two weeks removed from having about as bad of an offensive performance as anyone can have against the Rams. So, he praised his players for bouncing back and being much more effective the past two weeks.

Continue improving:
Turner said Washington's focus is on itself and getting better. There are a lot of young players on the team who want to have long careers in the NFL. They want to continue improving and see the results on the field.
— Zach Selby (@ZachDSelby) October 26, 2020
Time will tell what the offense can accomplish, Turner said, but they will continue trying to improve each week. They won't put any limitations on what the offense's limits, and they will keep working hard and building.
— Zach Selby (@ZachDSelby) October 26, 2020
Scott Turner on the O: "Growing... getting better... starting to look more and more like what we envisioned it looking like."
— John Keim (@john_keim) October 26, 2020
Cam Sims:
Turner praised WR Cam Sims for making the most of his opportunity. He led all @WashingtonNFL skill players by playing 88% of the offensive snaps.
— Kyle Stackpole (@kylefstackpole) October 26, 2020
Turner said Cam Sims has made the most out of his opportunity. Sims played the most snaps among Washington's receivers yesterday (even one more than McLaurin). He says it's an example of taking advantage of your reps.

Terry McLaurin:
Turner on wide receiver Terry McLaurin: "He's been a pro since Day 1."
— Kyle Stackpole (@kylefstackpole) October 26, 2020
Said that WRs coach Jim Hostler and assistant WRs coach Drew Terrell have really pushed McLaurin to get even better.
Turner liked McLaurin's speech at the end of Sunday's game. He's been a pro from Day 1, Turner said, and he and his coaches are working to get better every day. McLaurin is a lead by example kind of player, so when a guy that has that kind of ability talks, people listen.

Running backs:
Turner said that there were more two-RB sets because of the injuries at wide receivers. It came down to getting the best playmakers on the field as often as possible.
— Kyle Stackpole (@kylefstackpole) October 26, 2020
Antonio Gibson:
There were a couple of runs where the play wasn't blocked as well, but Antonio Gibson found a way to get more positive yardage, Turner said. It's those types of plays, in addition to the plays that don't show up on the box score, that show how Gibson has improved.
— Zach Selby (@ZachDSelby) October 26, 2020
Scott Turner on Antonio Gibson's overlooked runs that help sustain drives: "They weren't necessarily blocked as well. Instead of getting tackled for (a gain of) 1, he broke a tackle and kept driving his legs and got 4 or 5. That just makes it so much easier for us (offensively)." pic.twitter.com/KjeDKAE3o4
— Ben Standig (@BenStandig) October 26, 2020
Turner highlighted a few of Antonio Gibson's runs where he could have been stopped for a one-yard gain, but he kept churning his legs to pick up four or five. That put @WashingtonNFL in more manageable down-and-distance situations.
— Kyle Stackpole (@kylefstackpole) October 26, 2020
Play action:
Turner said the team was able to keep the Cowboys off balance with play action, which wasn't as effective because of the offense's struggles running the ball.
— Zach Selby (@ZachDSelby) October 26, 2020
Cornelius Lucas:
Rivera on left tackle Cornelius Lucas: "Big Luke really played hard. He fought the whole game."
— Kyle Stackpole (@kylefstackpole) October 26, 2020
Lucas did a solid job in his first start with @WashingtonNFL
Expectations for the offense:
Scott Turner is asked where the offense is now relative to expectations. Think penthouse to outhouse range. Says he's not sure, "but the elevator is going up."
— Ben Standig (@BenStandig) October 26, 2020
Logan Thomas:
Scott Turner: "I think Logan's getting better every week.....Logan's a good player for us."
— Chris Russell AKA The Rooster (@Russellmania621) October 26, 2020
Turner on Logan Thomas: "Efficient player and productive... What we need him to be."
— John Keim (@john_keim) October 26, 2020
Peyton Barber:
"Peyton Barber had 10 carries for 38 yards. Those were hard yards."
— Chris Russell AKA The Rooster (@Russellmania621) October 26, 2020
Hints that when you're telegraphing run a bit (Barber's role), you don't expect huge numbers.
Offense the last two games:
Scott Turner last week vs the Giants said his offense was better but still not good. This week vs Dallas? Turner says "pretty good but still things to work on." 250 yards in 1st half before they obviously called the dogs off. Pretty good.

Ron Rivera’s cancer treatment:
Rivera entered the final day of his cancer treatment this morning, and Turner is happy for him that he has pushed through this part of his recovery. We're all behind Rivera, Turner said.
— Zach Selby (@ZachDSelby) October 26, 2020
Scott Turner says "his strength is unmatched" on @RiverboatRonHC and mentions the next few days are going to be tough recovering from it.
— Chris Russell AKA The Rooster (@Russellmania621) October 26, 2020
Good time for a bye. #WashingtonFootball
Turner on Ron Rivera coaching while battling cancer: "If coach can come to work and push through what he's dealing with, then we have no excuses."
— Kyle Stackpole (@kylefstackpole) October 26, 2020
It's a different kind of Victory Monday #RiveraStrong pic.twitter.com/tgiZgOpBGC
— Washington Football Team (@WashingtonNFL) October 26, 2020
Turner said that the @WashingtonNFL
— Kyle Stackpole (@kylefstackpole) October 26, 2020
players, coaches and support staff have been "some of the best people I've ever been around." Said Rivera sets the precedent.
"We've got some really good people working in this building."
