Washington Roster Moves: Bryce Love to IR, Jared Norris signed from practice squad

Love is on the shelf for a few weeks

Bryce Love will have to wait a little longer to get a chance to play in the NFL. He was drafted in the 4th round last year with the intention of red-shirt him for his rookie season after he tore his ACL on his last play at Stanford. He had an additional cleanup surgery after his initial ACL surgery, and the hope was he would be ready for this year.

He made the team, but there were rumors he could have been shelved again. He reportedly doesn’t have the same burst he had in college, and the team was hoping he would be an option later in the season. Today Ron Rivera put the brakes on that, at least for a few more weeks.

Bryce Love has been placed on injured reserve after his knee swelled up this week. Rivera said it was probably from overuse, they’ve been pushing him hard to get him ready to play. He said this IR designation isn’t season-ending, it’s taking advantage of this year’s special IR rules that allow players to go out for a minimum of 3 weeks.

This opens up a roster spot, and Rivera will bring up one of his special teams players. LB Jared Norris was signed to the 53-man roster and will likely be active again this week. He was elevated from the practice squad the last two weeks which exhausted his eligibility for that special designation. If a player needs to be elevated a 3rd time during the season, they have to be signed which happened with Norris today, and WR Cam Sims last week.

Washington is signing RB Jonathan Williams to the practice squad to take Jared Norris’ spot. Rivera said today that the team had to use DB Cole Luke in practice as a RB due to only having three available. The team has not had a RB on the practice squad all season.
