— Hogs Haven (@HogsHaven) January 2, 2020
"When looking for that man, I look for a class act. That's how you describe Coach Rivera. He was two-time coach of the year, and for those of you that don't understand, that's very, very hard to do. You should Google that, because it's impressive, impressive."
— Chris Lingebach (@ChrisLingebach) January 2, 2020
"It's all about winning. Ron Rivera knows how to win as a player, as a coach, as the new head coach of the Redskins. One thing that's very, very important, we're gonna have one voice, and only one voice alone, and that's the coach's."

— Kyle Stackpole (@kylefstackpole) January 2, 2020
"It's all good now."

"If I wanted the money, I'd still be out there trying to pit a couple teams against each other. I took this job for one simple reason, one simple reason: because Dan Snyder came to me with a very interesting perspective..."
— Chris Lingebach (@ChrisLingebach) January 2, 2020
Rivera: “I’ve had four weeks off. I got tired of getting up and having to do dishes. I’m serious.” #Redskins

— Craig Hoffman (@CraigHoffman) January 2, 2020
Coach-centered approach:
Rivera said that a big reason he came was because it would be a coach-centered approach, such as the Patriots, Chiefs, Seahawks, etc.
— Kyle Stackpole (@kylefstackpole) January 2, 2020
But he also said the #Redskins need to be a "player-centered culture."
Rivera says Snyder convinces him to come because he wanted a Seahawks, Chiefs, Patriots model centered around the head coach
— Les Carpenter (@Lescarpenter) January 2, 2020
Rivera says that Snyder studied why teams win and why teams lose. He said that Snyder presented him with the fact that winners have a head coach centered approach.
— Craig Hoffman (@CraigHoffman) January 2, 2020
Rivera said he accepted under one condition - a player centric culture.
Redskins history:
Ron Rivera looked at the front row of players and said ‘we are not going to do that guys’ in reference to not embracing the history of the franchise. He made it a point to say that they will under him and do things the right way. #Redskins
— Lake Lewis Jr (@LakeLewis) January 2, 2020
Ron Rivera:"There are only 32 of us at any one given time, and these jobs are scarce. But this one, the Washington Redskins, this one's special. This is one of the almost original teams, started in 1932. There's a lot of history behind this football team." https://t.co/Ih37s6fzPc

Regarding the coaching staff, Rivera said they're at the beginning of the interview process and that it's going to "take some time."
— Kyle Stackpole (@kylefstackpole) January 2, 2020
"We're in the interview process... in the beginning of it... it's going to be a collaborative effort... come to decisions that are best for the organization."@JPFinlayNBCS asking Rivera about remainder of coaching search and front office search. #HTTR @ABC7News #Redskins
— Chip Brierre (@Chip_Brierre) January 2, 2020
Kevin O’Connell:
Rivera is still in the interview process for filling out the coaching staff. A lot of people like OC Kevin O'Connell, but the jury is still out on what the offensive staff will look like. #Redskins
— Zach Selby (@DarDarBinx61) January 2, 2020

— Les Carpenter (@Lescarpenter) January 2, 2020
Do it our way:
Rivera says that his message to the players is "do it our way."
— Craig Hoffman (@CraigHoffman) January 2, 2020
That way if they succeed, success is for everyone. If they fail doing it their way, it's on the player.
"We need 11 guys trying to do one thing at a time, not one guy trying to do 11 things." The first of many great Rivera lines that are sure to come. #Redskins #HTTR
— Zach Selby (@DarDarBinx61) January 2, 2020

— Lake Lewis Jr (@LakeLewis) January 2, 2020
Attack the QB on defense:
Ron Rivera - Were gonna play downhill on our way to the quarterback.
— JP Finlay (@JPFinlayNBCS) January 2, 2020
Dwayne Haskins Jr.:
Ron Rivera is asked about Dwayne Haskins. He thinks he can become a franchise-caliber quarterback, but said "it's a process."
— Matthew Paras (@Matthew_Paras) January 2, 2020
"We can't get ahead of it," Rivera said.
Ron Rivera brought up Cam Newton when I asked him about Dwayne Haskins. He’s already developed one first-rounder into a franchise caliber player. Thinks Dwayne has the potential to become one too
— Pete Hailey (@PeteHaileyNBCS) January 2, 2020
Rivera said nice things about Haskins, but didn't sound like it's a lock with Haskins Week 1.
— Ben Standig (@BenStandig) January 2, 2020
Rivera says Haskins can become a franchise style quarterback, but it won't be an overnight thing.
— Craig Hoffman (@CraigHoffman) January 2, 2020
He seemed to say there are some veterans who will get some looks, too.
Rivera on Haskins and next step in development: “he has to step up and become a leader. All the great ones become leaders... be where he needs to be and do what he’s supposed to do. It starts with the offseason.”
— John Keim (@john_keim) January 2, 2020
"I also think there's a couple of good veteran quarterbacks that are obviously going to get some opportunities to play as well."
— michael phillips (@michaelpRTD) January 2, 2020
1) Alex Smith?
2) Him asserting himself as the boss in front of Dan?
3) Him sending a message to Haskins?
Take your pick.
4-3 defense:
Ron Rivera:
— Mark Tyler(Hogs Haven) (@Tiller56) January 2, 2020
Fit and Need for 4-3
We have guys who we believe can play the 1 and 3 already
Rivera said there are many good fits already on the roster for a 4-3. Confident defensive line and linebackers can make transition. On Haskins: can be a "franchise-style" quarterback, but will look at veteran QBs as well (?)
— Hogs Haven (@HogsHaven) January 2, 2020
Ron Rivera seems very confident in the #Redskins' defensive personnel being able to transition to the 4-3. Liked that he says his front will stop the run on their way to the QB, meaning he will be asking Payne, Allen and Ioannidis to get up the field.
— Grant Paulsen (@granthpaulsen) January 2, 2020
Studying the team:
A few days after Ron Rivera was let go from Carolina, Dan Snyder called his agent. They spoke then, and then a week later. Rivera then watched the team’s last four games and saw the fight the players had. #HTTR
— Rhiannon Walker (@InstantRHIplay) January 2, 2020
Rivera said he delved into six #Redskins games from this year and had notes on every single player who played in those games. Also watched the last four #Redskins games on TV.
— Kyle Stackpole (@kylefstackpole) January 2, 2020
Rivera mentioned he and Dan Snyder have been talking for weeks. Said he watched six full games (incl. vs. Carolina); did write-ups on every single player. Likes the young talent. "We (!) slipped up a bit with Dallas... that's understandable"
— Hogs Haven (@HogsHaven) January 2, 2020
Winning:
"Everything we do is gonna be about winning. We're gonna do things the right way and that's the only way we're gonna do 'em, because if it doesn't help us, we're not doing it, men. That's just as simple as it gets."
— Chris Lingebach (@ChrisLingebach) January 2, 2020
Rivera and #Redskins owner Dan Snyder have the same vision for the football team: they want to get back to when it was one of the more dominant groups in the NFL. #HTTR
— Zach Selby (@DarDarBinx61) January 2, 2020
Playing against the Redskins:
Ron Rivera discussed his memories of hard it was to play at Washington. Both he and Dan Snyder discussed getting the fan base back to level of excitement.
— Rhiannon Walker (@InstantRHIplay) January 2, 2020
Ron Rivera on why he took the Skins job so fast: Dan Snyder reached out a few days after Carolina fired him. He liked what he saw on tape, how hard they played. Also liked the history, the past here. Remembered playing at RFK as a Bears player and the intensity of it.
— Brian McNally (@bmcnally14) January 2, 2020
Collaboration:
Rivera says he’s going to collaborate with all the personnel people because of “what they’ve done in the last 3 drafts.” Bodes well for scouts and Alex Santos/Kyle Smith
— JP Finlay (@JPFinlayNBCS) January 2, 2020
If I’m pulling the most used word by Ron Rivera here: “Collaborative.” Doesn’t matter what the front office structure is if they aren’t on the same page. Hasn’t always been that way here.
— Brian McNally (@bmcnally14) January 2, 2020
Asked about final say in personnel, Ron Rivera says it will be collaborative. If that doesn’t work he will ask Dan Snyder for help, but he thinks that won’t be necessary.
— JP Finlay (@JPFinlayNBCS) January 2, 2020
(I read that as Rivera has final say but doesn’t feel the need to say it)
Snyder’s recruitment:
This decision was not made on the 30th. It was made over time. They spoke for 35 hours “in the freezer” he joked to go over everything that happened with the franchise. Rivera appreciated his willingness to sit and talk openly.
— Rhiannon Walker (@InstantRHIplay) January 2, 2020
Rivera says that he sat with Snyder in "the freezer" at Dan's house for 35 yours. Just a room that's really cold and they went through every aspect of the organization. Says they really spent that long going through every detail.
— Craig Hoffman (@CraigHoffman) January 2, 2020
Super Bowl!:
Rivera: "My main goal is to win a consistent winner and win a Super Bowl."
— Kyle Stackpole (@kylefstackpole) January 2, 2020
Redskins recent drafts:
Rivera impressed with the last three drafts this team had. #Redskins
— George Wallace (@GWallaceWTOP) January 2, 2020
Disgruntled fans:
Rivera says he understands the fans are disgruntled. “They deserve to be.” Rivera wants their support now and says he will give it everything to earn it.
— JP Finlay (@JPFinlayNBCS) January 2, 2020
More Ron Rivera. On long-suffering Skins fans: “I understand they’re disgruntled. I understand they’re upset. And they deserve to be. We haven’t won.”
— Brian McNally (@bmcnally14) January 2, 2020
Man, Rivera just answered my question about the fans. He said he understands why you are upset and have felt the way you have because the #Redskins have been losing. He said if you can get behind the team again it will be needed.
— Lake Lewis Jr (@LakeLewis) January 2, 2020
Jack Del Rio:
Rivera said important to have a guy on your staff that’s “been there” and Jack Del Rio has been there.
— George Wallace (@GWallaceWTOP) January 2, 2020
Ron Rivera has the following saying: "Don't draw me a map unless you've been there."
— Kyle Stackpole (@kylefstackpole) January 2, 2020
Seemingly everywhere DC Jack Del Rio has been, he's had success, and Rivera said that was a big factor in bringing him in.
Family = Success:
Ron Rivera was a coach on those Philadelphia Eagles teams that won consecutive NFC East titles and reached multiple NFC Champions. No NFC EAST team has done it since, and Rivera said creating that sense of family is how you achieve that level of success. #HTTR
— Rhiannon Walker (@InstantRHIplay) January 2, 2020
Betting on himself:
“I believe in me, and I’ll bet on me.” Ron Rivera on what gives him confidence even though Joe Gibbs and Mike Shanahan — other successful coaches — weren’t able to achieve success these last two decades.
— Rhiannon Walker (@InstantRHIplay) January 2, 2020
Past Redskins failures:
Ron Rivera says Dan Snyder was very candid in where his Redskins team has failed in the past and how he wants to build things the right way now.
— JP Finlay (@JPFinlayNBCS) January 2, 2020
Joe Gibbs:
Rivera and Gibbs spoke about the Team
— Mark Tyler(Hogs Haven) (@Tiller56) January 2, 2020
What Gibbs told Rivera about Snyder:
Dan Snyder want's to win. He'll do what he can to support you. Give the coach the tools he needs to win.
