#Redskins signed WR Robert Davis to their practice squad.— Washington Redskins (@Redskins) September 10, 2019
Robert Davis was waived last week so the Redskins could sign J.P. Holtz from the practice squad due to Jordan Reed's concussion. Washington chose to go with 5 WRs on the roster, and probably felt that their 6th WR was a safe bet to clear waivers.
Davis made an amazing comeback from a broken leg and multiple torn ligaments. He made the team after catching multiple touchdowns in the preseason. Now he gets a chance to stay with the team after clearing waivers, and stay ready for his next chance to make the 53-man roster.
Wide receiver Robert Davis cleared waivers and is expected to rejoin the Redskins -- but on the practice squad, per source. Team sorting out the various injuries to Guice, Reed, Moreau, Allen, Brantley and McCoy, so no room on the 53 for now.— Ben Standig (@BenStandig) September 9, 2019
Ben Standig from the Athletic reported the team's interest in bringing Davis back, and then their intention to sign him to the practice squad. He also mentions the growing list of injuries for the Redskins. Derrius Guice and Jonathan Allen are dealing with knee injuries. Caleb Brantley re-aggravated his foot. Fabian Moreau is still dealing with an ankle injury that was in a cast. Jordan Reed is trying to get cleared from concussion protocol. Colt McCoy is still trying to come back from his broken leg last year. That is a long list, and almost fills their 7 inactive spots already for this week.
Davis reportedly signed to the practice squad for more than the league minimum.
