Redskins Injury Update: Jonathan Allen will have MRI today for suspected MCL sprain, could miss some time

Not good

NFL: Washington Redskins at Dallas Cowboys Jerome Miron-USA TODAY Sports

Jonathan Allen went down with a left knee injury at the end of the first quarter yesterday and did not return to the game. He could be seen on the sidelines, but his presence on the field was sorely missed as the game shifted momentum in the 2nd half. Ian Rapoport reports that Allen is believed to have suffered an MCL sprain, and is considered week-to-week. He also adds that Allen will miss some time.

This is not good for a Redskins defensive line that was considered the strength of the defense going into the season. Any injury is disruptive, but losing a talented force like Allen hurts a defense that looked lost at times yesterday.

Grant Paulsen is reporting that the Redskins are preparing to not have Jonathan Allen this week. He also mentions Tim Settle will be counted on which is an obvious observation since he is the next man up on the depth chart.

On the other side of this lies the hope/expectation from Redskins coach(es) that Allen will be available this week when Washington hosts the Dallas Cowboys for their second straight division game. The MRI results will control where his rehab goes and how much time he will miss. Allen is an important part of the Redskins defense, and is becoming a locker room leader.
