Jay Gruden stepped up to the podium after an epic meltdown following a 17-0 lead early in the game. The Redskins fall to 0-1 after the Eagles came back and won 32-27. Gruden blamed 2nd half penalties for the collapse in the 2nd half. Jonathan Allen left the game with a knee injury, and was kept out as a precaution. He will be day-to-day. Gruden says this was a total team loss.

Jonathan Allen:
Jonathan Allen has a knee sprain and he’ll be week to week. Team decided to hold him out for the remainder of the game not risk it #HTTR

2nd half penalties:
Gruden on 2nd half: “We never had the ball, Penalties in 2nd half killed 3 drives.”
— George Wallace (@GWallaceWTOP) September 8, 2019
Gruden said the comeback was simple: they didn’t have the ball. #Eagles got it. Scored. Couldn’t get off the field. Offense didn’t help them out by sustaining anything.

Total team loss:
Gruden: “This is a total team loss. ... There was a lot to like with the offense ... but defensively, we’ve got better personnel to perform like that.”

Gruden time.

On Peterson. Said it was a tough decision, but with the threat of Sproles on punt returns he wanted more help on teams.
More Gruden on AP. Said it will be a week-to-week decision. That Guice is also an early-down back makes having AP challenging at times. https://t.co/STMjBeZUtq
— Ben Standig (@BenStandig) September 8, 2019
Gruden said it was a tough decision to sit Peterson, but they needed the extra ST depth. The preseason issues combined with Sproles past success against them made them want to lean in that direction.

While he said there's a place for him on this team, this is a kinda tough quote from Jay on AP's role moving forward. Full below, but ends with this:

"If we have a game where we think we can run the ball 55 times in a game in I-Formation then sure I’ll get him up." pic.twitter.com/G9h8Njdic2
Case Keenum:
Gruden says Keenum was efficient: “I thought he played an excellent game.”

(Ed. Note: I largely agree)
Overthrown pass to Terry McLaurin:
On the first half TD throw to McLaurin, Keenum said “to see him streaming down the field, those are plays you dream about.”
