Redskins players and coaches held Day 9 of training camp in Richmond, VA yesterday. Jay Gruden spoke to the media, and gave plenty of updates. Day 10 of practices starts today at 9:45am, and ends with a walkthrough at 4:45pm.
There will be updates on position battles, injuries, pics/videos, quotes, and more from training camp. Check in throughout the day to get all the latest updates on Redskins training camp here.
RG Brandon Scherff, who is one of the best players at his position, has a starting spot and is waiting on a big contract, chasing this play down is all you need to know about him. #Redskins https://t.co/a4ZAp0Dx0M

#Redskins have a couple players in for workouts before morning practice. Appear to be edge rushers. Ran through a drop to hook/curl/catch a ball drill, now working on rushing off the edge drill. Sweat hasn't practiced in a few days, Brailford working back slowly. #Redskins pic.twitter.com/vz72VPexe3

#Redskins are back in pads today.
— Paul Conner (@P_ConnerJr) August 5, 2019
Montez Sweat walked out of the building with his pads and helmet headed toward the practice field. Then a strength coach grabbed him and they’re heading back to side field.
— JP Finlay (@JPFinlayNBCS) August 5, 2019
Just so you all know there isn’t anything Dustin Hopkins can’t do. Kicking field goals, fielding punts. All light work #HTTR pic.twitter.com/PPCi94OID5
— Rhiannon Walker (@InstantRHIplay) August 5, 2019
Just Trey Quinn, Steven Sims and TJ Rahming returning punts. Moreland and Wilson, who had previously worked with returners, are up on the line blocking gunners.
— Paul Conner (@P_ConnerJr) August 5, 2019
Cam Sims, Darvin Kidsy, Brian Quick, Jehu Chesson, and Kelvin Harmon working at gunners. Special Teams big role for that last 1 or 2 WR spots.
— Paul Conner (@P_ConnerJr) August 5, 2019
Steven Sims, Trey Quinn, Jimmy Moreland and TJ Rahming all on PR duty #HTTR
— Rhiannon Walker (@InstantRHIplay) August 5, 2019
Quinton Dunbar is practicing today after being held out yesterday. Same with Morgan Moses
— Matthew Paras (@Matthew_Paras) August 5, 2019
Wes Martin is back with the first team at LG. Gruden had been using Ereck Flowers there once Donald Penn signed.
— Matthew Paras (@Matthew_Paras) August 5, 2019
The offense came out and ran one of the defense’s favorite plays — a pick. Paul Richardson went under the RB flared out and walked in easily. It was at walkthrough speed, but I have noticed the coaches working on that play in the spring and the first two weeks of camp #HTTR
— Rhiannon Walker (@InstantRHIplay) August 5, 2019
Montez Sweat is indeed in individual drills today. Doubt he is in team, but he is swimming through upside down trash cans with the rest of the OLB’s.

Nice combo rep from Moreland on Doctson. Gets his hand in. Just good defense. pic.twitter.com/X5AGLOHjEg

Call on the field is a touchdown. Guessing the replay center will think otherwise. pic.twitter.com/8FrsNYjGeZ

Ray Horton wants OPI, but here’s a nice battle between Doctson and Moreland. Doctson was ruled out. pic.twitter.com/znnz8RT3LH

I thought I was about to be the focus of “block or charge” for a second there pic.twitter.com/dInS2NyurA

Steven Sims continuing to beat DBs with quickness out of his breaks #HTTR pic.twitter.com/Mh78WpyST0

Darvin Kidsy with a nice job getting Quinton Dunbar off him with a double move #HTTR pic.twitter.com/ExABvMLSQh
— Rhiannon Walker (@InstantRHIplay) August 5, 2019
Vernon Davis getting Landon Collins to bite on shoulder move and then easily makes his move to end zone #HTTR pic.twitter.com/2IhylFuex2
— Rhiannon Walker (@InstantRHIplay) August 5, 2019
GREAT blitz pickup by Chris Thompson on a Landon Collins blitz. Collins timed it perfectly around the right side, but CT was there and stonewalled him. Allowed a 20 yd completion to Richardson. CT isn’t just valuable for his pass-catching ability.
— Kennedy Paynter (@Kennedy_Paynter) August 5, 2019
Haskins makes two nice throws in a row downfield, drawing ooohhhs from the crowd, but he would’ve been sacked both times. OL not picking up stunts.
— Kennedy Paynter (@Kennedy_Paynter) August 5, 2019
I have really enjoyed watching Shaun Wilson this training camp. His small frame made deceive you into thinking he won’t break a bunch of tackles, but he just ran up the middle, powered through a pair and was off to the races #HTTR
— Rhiannon Walker (@InstantRHIplay) August 5, 2019
#Redskins coaches appear to be higher on WR Brian Quick and WR Darvin Kidsy than fans are. Keep that in mind.
— Paul Conner (@P_ConnerJr) August 5, 2019
And for the first time since the third fight of training camp, the offensive and defensive line are doing 1-on-1s again. Ryan Anderson on first rep, went right under Geron Christian #HTTR
— Rhiannon Walker (@InstantRHIplay) August 5, 2019
Da’Ron Payne beat Chase Roullier several different ways to Sunday — speed, power, spin. He was in the backfield like swimwear #HTTR
— Rhiannon Walker (@InstantRHIplay) August 5, 2019
Matt Ioannidis beat Brandon Scherff with a very quick first step. Scherff didn’t have a chance. #HTTR
— Rhiannon Walker (@InstantRHIplay) August 5, 2019
Troy Apke just doesn’t move naturally on the football field. He constantly second-guesses angles. While 22, 20, and 35 are decisive and downhill, Apke consistently hesitates/adjusts his angle. Still seems like a ST only guy.
— Kennedy Paynter (@Kennedy_Paynter) August 5, 2019
Ereck Flowers with two very good reps against Jonathan Allen and Matt Ioannidis. Held his ground, did a good job not conceding anything #HTTR
— Rhiannon Walker (@InstantRHIplay) August 5, 2019
Da’Ron Payne just beat Brandon Scherff, going to his outside shoulder. Tim Settle has had two nice reps beating the inside linemen with quick steps #HTTR
— Rhiannon Walker (@InstantRHIplay) August 5, 2019
Donald Penn with two reps where he rode the rusher around the arc. Tim Settle best Wes Martin bad with speed to the inside. Left him in the dust. Jonathan Allen would’ve bull rushed Martin into the QB #HTTR
— Rhiannon Walker (@InstantRHIplay) August 5, 2019
Next rep, Gruden alllll over Haskins. “LATE! LATE LATE LATE!!!!” Missed a wide open Harmon on the sideline.
— Kennedy Paynter (@Kennedy_Paynter) August 5, 2019
Derrius Guice takes handoff and finds daylight, and then cuts it back to the right side of the line. Got to the safety level and Montae Nicholson lowered him shoulder and knocked him off his feat. Guice pops back up #HTTR
— Rhiannon Walker (@InstantRHIplay) August 5, 2019
Dwayne Haskins with a really good job getting the ball out got to Cam Sims. Cassanova McKinzy was barreling towards the rookie, but Haskins maintained focused and delivered ball to Sims #HTTR
— Rhiannon Walker (@InstantRHIplay) August 5, 2019
Offense just runs more smoothly with Colt at the helm. Case just miscommunicated with Doc, Doc was open cutting in, Case threw outside. Should’ve been a pick. Can’t happen. Next play, low ball to McLauren, dropped.
— Kennedy Paynter (@Kennedy_Paynter) August 5, 2019
Colt dialed in today. Just threw a pretty seam to Rahming for a TD. Play before would have been a big gain but Harmon dropped it
— JP Finlay (@JPFinlayNBCS) August 5, 2019
McCoy caps fourth down work with excellent seam pass to TJ Rahming. Haskins did not get reps in fourth down work. At times he gets fewer reps than Keenum and McCoy
— John Keim (@john_keim) August 5, 2019
What a throw by Case Keenum. Threw pass on a tight rope to Vernon Davis, who beat Shaun Dion Hamilton in tight coverage. Tapped toe in, dragged the second and spiked the ball after ref confirmed the score. Morgan Moses came over for headbutt to celebrate #HTTR
— Rhiannon Walker (@InstantRHIplay) August 5, 2019
Troy Apke with a solid job in coverage on Terry McLaurin and making sure the receiver didn’t get any yards after the catch or the TD #HTTR
— Rhiannon Walker (@InstantRHIplay) August 5, 2019
Haskins ends his series with a play action rollout to Cam Sims for the TD. Good throw. Good catch. #redskins
— Kareem Copeland (@kareemcopeland) August 5, 2019
Ereck Flowers just passed off Da’Ron Payne on two of the first three two minute drill reps and Payne came up with two very easy sacks. I’m not sure what’s going there, if he thought he was passing him off or something, but there was no one else there to block Payne #HTTR
— Rhiannon Walker (@InstantRHIplay) August 5, 2019
End up getting down to the 32, kicking a FG...but Keenum would’ve been sacked on the second play, effectively ending the drive. Had two lineman hugging him when he hit Doc for a 15 yd gain. This OL simply cannot handle the DL. Defensive coaches heckling offensive guys.
— Kennedy Paynter (@Kennedy_Paynter) August 5, 2019
Gruden yells, "IT AIN'T EASY BEING BREEZY,” as Hopkins lines up for FG as wind swirls. #Skinscamp
— Ryan Fowler (@FowlerRyan1) August 5, 2019
Haskins launches deep ball down seam to Flanagan. Flanagan appeared to have a step but Cole Holcomb skies up and breaks up the pass. Late flag thrown by official. Offensive pass interference. Hear offensive player on sideline yell "BULSH@$"
— Paul Conner (@P_ConnerJr) August 5, 2019
Hugh Thornton’s got some nasty to him. Just pancaked a second-level defender.
— Kennedy Paynter (@Kennedy_Paynter) August 5, 2019
Some colleagues noted McCoy limping a bit earlier after a throw. Doesn't seem like a biggie. Colt still out here watching. https://t.co/6F38NtHbOV
— Ben Standig (@BenStandig) August 5, 2019
The Redskins held out Colt McCoy for the last two-minute period as a precautionary reason, per Tony Wyllie. Josh Woodrum received his reps instead.
— Matthew Paras (@Matthew_Paras) August 5, 2019
Colt McCoy update. Held out of last period of practice for precautionary reasons. Had some treatment on his foot.
