The Mason/Brennan Preseason Hype! Award has been given out unofficially by the fans for years to each preseason's most hyped players, but now we've made it official, and will bring it to a vote.
This week's vote will cover the hype leading up to and including the first preseason game against the Browns and beyond. Place your vote for who you feel has been the most hyped player up to this point, whether the hype is deserved or not.
The Rules:
1. Player must have been drafted late or signed by the Redskins as an undrafted free agent. Players that have only been on other teams practice squads that are signed by the team are also eligible.
2. A player that has been on the team for several years is still eligible if most of that time has been spent on the practice squad, inactive, or with very limited productivity/time
How have past Mason/Brennan winners done in pro football after receiving this glorious award?
Offseason Mason/Brennan Winner: CB Jimmy Moreland (70%)
Preseason Week 1 Winner: CB Jimmy Moreland (88%)
Preseason Week 2 Winner: CB Robert Davis (39%)
With no Jimmy Moreland available last week, we saw the hype love get spread around to a lot of contenders. Comeback Kid Robert Davis got the W last week with 39% of the vote. Can he do it again this week?
The Candidates:
OLB Cassanova McKinzy
I thought McKinzy had a legit shot at winning last week, but flashes on offense have always generated votes. McKinzy is getting legit hype from fans, coaches, and pundits alike. We’ve got the Bill Horgan seal of approval, a comparison to DeMarcus Ware, and calls for him to start of Montez Sweat this week. This shit is getting real, real fast.
The highest graded player from the #Redskins win (minimum of 25 snaps) was Cassanova McKinzy who finished with a 90.9 overall grade and a 91.5 pass rush grade. #HTTR pic.twitter.com/T6FIzM4ODl

Cassanova McKinzy flashing yet again. Does a terrific job bending and staying low as he bends around the RT, allows him to close quickly on the QB for a sack/fumble #Redskins pic.twitter.com/fFmwYIkza3

Cassanova McKinzy ranked among the best pass rushers in the NFL this preseason

From 54 pass-rushing snaps, he has racked up two sacks, three hits and four hurries, with the added bonus of a forced fumble and batted pass.#FireBruceAllen https://t.co/rvtsEI4MCn
ILB Josh Harvey-Clemons
Harvey-Clemons has been getting noticed for his improved size and play recently. He is playing more aggressively, and has a chance to make a big impact in a shaky ILB corps.

Look at what Josh Harvey Clemons does to the FB on this one pic.twitter.com/hGyt8wOyfC

Loved seeing Josh Harvey-Clemons get after Matt Ryan a couple of plays ago. Unfortunately, Falcons still moving the ball but the kid's got talent #Redskins

S Jeremy Reaves
Jeremy Reaves continues to show up on the field and on a lot of people’s 53-man roster predictions. The desire to knock Troy Apke off the roster is real!
Plays like this is why #39 Jeremy Reaves needs to be on the 53 man roster for me. He's able to read play and use his athleticism to make a solid tackle for a minimal gain. #Redskins pic.twitter.com/AQA14l4XDv

WR Kelvin Harmon
Kelvin Harmon is the Pierre Garcon replacement this team has been looking for! He’s the kind of receiver Josh Doctson will never be, and he will cost Doctson his job. He can’t be cut because 31 other teams will put in a waiver claim for him. He’s that damn good!

Kelvin Harmon with a great release. Wayne gives him a better accurate ball on the back shoulder. Harmon is the only one who can catch this. Secondary doesn’t have a shot at this. Either give up the completion or pull Harmon down for DPI. pic.twitter.com/Dp3se920aH

WR Robert Davis
What’s better than two TDs on offense in the preseason? Two fumble recoveries on special teams! If that doesn’t make Robert Davis a lock on this team I don’t know what will. Last week’s winner tries to match Jimmy Moreland with back-to-back wins this week.
-Robert Davis needs to make this team
— Hogs Haven (@HogsHaven) August 23, 2019
-Liked that throw by Haskins on 3rd & goal. Read the defense, knew where to go, quick throw, should’ve been caught
Robert Davis deserves to make this team, Josh Doctson can kick rocks

WR Cam Sims
Cam made his presence know last week with 3 catches for 48 yards, leading the team in both categories. Cam is a big factor in the the plan for the replace Josh Doctson crowd.

Kelvin Harmon, Cam sims, and Robert Davis have all looked better than doctson
— youngskinsfan (@youngskinsfan) August 23, 2019
RB Craig Reynolds
Did Derrius Guice steal some of Craig Reynolds thunder last week? It doesn’t matter because Craig Reynolds is still looking better than Samaje Perine and Byron Marshall to some fans!
Craig Reynolds, RB out of Kutztown. Has looked much better than Perine and Byron Marshall.
