Redskins players and coaches reported to training camp in Richmond, VA yesterday. Jay Gruden spoke to the media, and gave plenty of updates. Day 1 of practices starts today at 9:45am, and ends with a walkthrough at 4:45pm.
Several players coming back from injuries returned to the practice field yesterday including Derrius Guice, Geron Christian Sr., Colt McCoy, and others. Alex Smith(leg), Jordan Brailford(groin), and Danny Johnson(knee) will start camp on the PUP List, and Bryce Love(knee) starts his career on the NFI List.
The Redskins will be splitting reps between Dwayne Haskins, Case Keenum, and Colt McCoy to start the QB competition. They will get the chance to work with several new and returning WRs who are trying to earn their place on the depth chart.
The big name that will not be on the field is Trent Williams who started his hold out yesterday by not reporting to camp. Williams reportedly has issues with the Redskins medical staff, and would also like a new deal before returning.
This could lead to a terrible football player named Ereck Flowers getting reps at tackle, and no one wants to see that. The rest of the offensive line is returning from injuries, but are fully cleared for the start of camp. The Redskins need to figure out who will play LG this year, and they drafted two players to compete with some journeymen linemen for the position.
Today will also be the first opportunity for fans to see the team's big free agency signing on the practice field. Landon Collins joins the Redskins after spending his first 4 years in the league with the New York Football team from the NFC East.
There will be many more position battles, storylines, pics/videos, quotes, and more from training camp. Check in throughout the day to get all the latest updates on Redskins training camp here.

Montez Sweat is massive. But he was standing next to a player who lookes just as big so I was confused. It was #46 6'8 TE Donald Parham

— Kareem Copeland (@kareemcopeland) July 25, 2019
As @kareemcopeland mentioned, there’s no sign of Chase Roullier out here. He was recovering from offseason shoulder surgery in the spring, but told me he expected to be fine by camp.

Training Camp has begun. Special teams work ends and we’ve got the ol’ running plays on air.
— Craig Hoffman (@CraigHoffman) July 25, 2019
Vets get the first snaps. Case Keenum at QB. AP at RB. Haskins/CT with the second group. McCoy/Guice with the third.
This will all rotate constantly and means nothing.
For the 1s: Case Keenum and Adrian Peterson start out in the backfield. Jordan Reed with Dwayne Haskins and the 2s. Colt McCoy with the 3s #HTTR

Two early drops for Davis. Good news is he looks fast. I don’t even think he’s close to 100% yet but he looks fast.

Rahming is quick. He's small so it makes sense but his footwork is nice.
— Paul Conner (@P_ConnerJr) July 25, 2019
Haskins to Steve Sims on slant. Adonis was real handsy but still complete.
— Paul Conner (@P_ConnerJr) July 25, 2019

Other highlights:
— Craig Hoffman (@CraigHoffman) July 25, 2019
INT for Norman on a deep ball. Underthrown but he high pointed it and came down with it.
Quinn’s understanding of route running nuance is incredible. Keeps DB’s guessing.
McLaurin shook Apke on a post corner so bad he turned him twice.
Ryan Anderson and Ryan Kerrigan with 1st team OLBs. Kerrigan on left side though over LT Flowers...
— Paul Conner (@P_ConnerJr) July 25, 2019
Monte Nicholson across from Landon Collins to start.
— Paul Conner (@P_ConnerJr) July 25, 2019
Jon Bostic gets the first team ILB snap next to Hamilton. Where Foster was. #redskins
— Kareem Copeland (@kareemcopeland) July 25, 2019
Adrian Peterson with a vicious cut in 11v11 drills. Dude is just in outrageous shape for an RB with 13k yards
— JP Finlay (@JPFinlayNBCS) July 25, 2019
Giant hole for cutback lane for Guice. Showed quite a few cuts. Knee looks good! #Redskins
— Paul Conner (@P_ConnerJr) July 25, 2019
Also, Flowers is at LT. This guard move becomes harder every day he’s not there.
— Craig Hoffman (@CraigHoffman) July 25, 2019
Other noticeable pairings: Bostic and Hamilton were the two inside linebackers with the starting defense. Montez Sweat was at OLB
— Matthew Paras (@Matthew_Paras) July 25, 2019
No pads but Samaje Perrine just ran into a defender and it sounded like he was wearing some #Redskins
— Paul Conner (@P_ConnerJr) July 25, 2019
Looks like Bostic is calling signals. SDH spent more time at Mo during the spring. Staying there for now.
— Craig Hoffman (@CraigHoffman) July 25, 2019
McCoy. Adrian Peterson runs someone over coming through the hole. "Nice run, grandpa!" from the stands. #Redskins
— Paul Conner (@P_ConnerJr) July 25, 2019
Haskins. Changes play at the line. Then OL false start. But seeing Gruden test him early with playbook.
— Paul Conner (@P_ConnerJr) July 25, 2019
The offensive line false starts, but Jay Gruden goes “that’s not on you, that’s on the quarterback.”
— Matthew Paras (@Matthew_Paras) July 25, 2019
Haskins was under center for the play.
Haskins. Play action then throws a dart on a slant route to Rahming who takes off up field. #Redskins

— Paul Conner (@P_ConnerJr) July 25, 2019
Back in 7 on 7. Gruden said "NO BALLS HIT THE GROUND!"
— Paul Conner (@P_ConnerJr) July 25, 2019
Pretty consistent look at what I assume is the top nickel secondary - Collins and Montae, then Norman, Dunbar and Moreau. SDH & Bostic at LBs
— JP Finlay (@JPFinlayNBCS) July 25, 2019
Shaun Dion Hamilton and Jon Bostic on back to back plays nearly came up with picks on Dwayne Haskins. SDH came barreling down on a short pass, read it the whole way, while Bostic came over the middle. That was one the ILB seriously need to improve was in pass coverage #HTTR
— Rhiannon Walker (@InstantRHIplay) July 25, 2019
kinda interesting how washington has structured their practice. first 11 v 11 was all outside zone and play action. colt mccoy got mirrored concept work in 7 v 7 and haskins is getting a ton of reps out of bunch sets.
— charles mcdonald (#1 bandana fan) (@FourVerts) July 25, 2019
terry mclaurin has had a strong day as a route runner
Fan to Domonique Rodgers-Cromartie: “Kirk Cousins; I know you like him”. DRC turns and smiles. You might recall his week 17 pick in 2016.

Some numbers from 7v7 drills -
— JP Finlay (@JPFinlayNBCS) July 25, 2019
15 reps - 4 to colt (all first team) 5 to Keenum (2 w first team) 6 to Haskins (none). Keenum gets first work now in 11v11.
Keenum just got lucky in a deep ball. Collins broke it up but it bounced right to Vernon Davis. 85 still has the speed.

Landon Collins tips the ball, but Vernon Davis comes down with it. #httr #redskins pic.twitter.com/CeCQqfc8tr

Saw Ereck Flowers choke hold Kerrigan. Kerrigan still rushing from LT side.
— Paul Conner (@P_ConnerJr) July 25, 2019
Keenum. Hits Reed on slant route. Reed seems to be happy on field. Keeps running all his passes way down the field.
— Paul Conner (@P_ConnerJr) July 25, 2019
Haskins is taking snaps with the first line (not vs first D) but has been third in the rotation of the QBs. For now it’s been Keenum then McCoy and then Haskins. And now Haskins working with second OL.
— John Keim (@john_keim) July 25, 2019
McCoy. Fake hand off. Ioannidis handled Jordan Reed who was trying to block him, fires corner route to Sprinkle that Josh Norman is able to get under and pick off. #Redskins
— Paul Conner (@P_ConnerJr) July 25, 2019
Man, Jordan Reed has looked smooth during this practice session. Just hauled in a one-handed grab from Haskins on a drag route. #SkinsCamp

Derrius Guice on what he’s learned coming back from the knee and his rookie year - “I’m a strong son of a gun.”
— JP Finlay (@JPFinlayNBCS) July 25, 2019
Derrius Guice on injury and rehab: "It's the hardest thing I ever had to go through in life, period. Doing what you love, finally getting out here, getting to the NFL. Then your first game you're out for the whole year."
— michael phillips (@michaelpRTD) July 25, 2019
Derrius Guice spoke today about some of the lessons he's learned from Adrian Peterson. Was a long year for Guice; clearly happy to be out there. Stayed on field after working with Haskins. What Guice also learned: How mentally tough he feels he is after enduring 2018.
— John Keim (@john_keim) July 25, 2019
Flowers says that he heard amazing things from Jeremy Parnell about Bill Callahan -- who he played for in Dallas -- and that played a huge factor in his decision.
— Craig Hoffman (@CraigHoffman) July 25, 2019
Flowers said OL coach Bill Callahan has helped broaden his game by "taking different sets as opposed to just sitting back... Sometimes jump setting, sometimes kicking then jumping as opposed to always kicking back. I've done that most of my career and it hasn't been effective."
— John Keim (@john_keim) July 25, 2019
Standout day: TIght end Jordan Reed. He created separation, showed quickness. And he made a nice one-handed grab, lunging to his right. Last year at this time: he had just started running, coming off surgery. It took a while for him to gain any explosiveness.
— John Keim (@john_keim) July 25, 2019
