Officially Official: Brown and McGee have been released
The Redskins were reportedly try to trade ILBs Mason Foster and Zach Brown, and DL Stacy McGee when the NFL's legal tampering window opened on Monday. They were not expected to get a deal done for any of them, and it looks like they've failed to trade anyone. The moves save the Redskins ~$8 million on this year’s cap.
The Redskins received some interest in Zach Brown, specifically from the Raiders, but teams decided to wait for his release instead wasting a draft pick. The Redskins look to be keeping Mason Foster for now. Washington picked up Reuben Foster last year, and also drafted Shaun Dion Hamilton late. They were interested in Ravens LB C.J. Moseley, but he was definitely out of their price range.
The #Redskins are going to release LB Zach Brown, source said. They shopped him and multiple teams expressed interest, but couldn't strike a deal. Should sign quickly now that he's free. A @pff favorite.— Tom Pelissero (@TomPelissero) March 13, 2019
Tried to trade Brown. Heard there was Raiders interest but clearly couldn’t get deal done https://t.co/EwUDGgRXxx— JP Finlay (@JPFinlayNBCS) March 13, 2019
It looks like Mason Foster, Vernon Davis, and Josh Norman are safe...for now.
McGee and Brown will be the only #Redskins cuts for now.— Craig Hoffman (@CraigHoffman) March 13, 2019
Mason Foster, Vernon Davis and Josh Norman aren't going anywhere for the time being. That could obviously change at any point, but you can stand down for more news for now.
Keep in mind with Mason foster: He can play both ILB spots. So if SDH and R Foster aren’t ready or available they are covered. Doesn’t mean something won’t happen later. ZB and RF same role. Also: if MF can’t cover, don’t blame him. Skins org has to find someone who can.— John Keim (@john_keim) March 13, 2019
