Officially Official: Landon Collins signs his contract with the Redskins

The Redskins made their splash in free agency. Washington will reportedly sign former New York Giants safety Landon Collins to a 6 year, $84 million deal when free agency officially opens on Wednesday. It was well known the Redskins were in the market for a safety this offseason, and Collins was a top target. It was reported today that the Redskins and the Colts were the two teams most interested in signing him. The Colts came into the offseason with over $100 million in cap space. It was thought they wouldn’t be outspent, that thought was wrong and Washington got their guy.

Contract details have not been released yet, but the Redskins only had around $13 million in cap space coming into free agency. They are attempting to trade several players like Zach Brown, Mason Foster, and Stacy McGee. There are also several players currently under contract who could be cut to clear up cap space.

The Redskins have been trying to solve the safety problem since Sean Taylor was murdered, and Collins is a huge investment to shore up the position. Collins is a Redskins fan because of Sean Taylor and Clinton Portis, and said he wanted to be drafted by the team on draft day in 2015. He now gets his chance to join his favorite team, and also got a huge payday. He is also another former Alabama player on the Redskins defense. Crimson Skins!
