UPDATE: They're still in on Mosley
The Redskins are really trying to beef up their defense. Despite their cap situation and the contract for Landon Collins, they are still in on ILB CJ Mosley.

The Washington Redskins are one the teams who could be in on free agent linebacker C.J. Mosley, per to NFL Network’s Tom Pelissero. The other teams likely to be interested are the Philadelphia Eagles, Detroit Lions, Indianapolis Colts, and the New York Jets.
One of the most coveted free agents in this class is ILB C.J. Mosley. #Ravens have been trying to re-sign him, but a bunch of other teams will be in the mix. He’s getting somewhere. @nflnetwork pic.twitter.com/d66yAgNFRT

The Baltimore Ravens chose to not place the franchise tag on Mosley, which would have them cost ~$15.4 million this season. The Ravens are expected to try to re-sign Mosley, but he should have a healthy market in free agency. Spotrac estimates he should make a minimum of $10 million per year in free agency, and could go as high as $12+ m/yr.
That price seems likely to keep Mosley out of the Redskins price range. They still have options on the team, but a few players are free agents, or potential cap casualties. Zach Vigil is a free agent, Zach Brown seems to have fallen out of favor with the team, and Mason Foster could be upgraded. Pelissero also reports the Redskins are trying to trade Zach Brown and Mason Foster.
The #Redskins are actively shopping several players -- including LBs Zach Brown and Mason Foster -- in trade talks and are strong players for C.J. Mosley, sources say. #Ravens have hoped to retain him, but Mosley has a huge market. Washington would need cap space to do it.

The Redskins claimed Reuben Foster off of waivers last season after the 49ers cut him following another domestic violence incident(charges were later dropped). He remains on the NFL Commissioner’s Exempt List, and waits to see if he will receive a suspension to start the season. Washington also really seems to like 6th round pick Shaun Dion-Hamilton. If the Redskins pick up Mosley and purge Brown and M. Foster, their top 3 ILBs will all be Alabama alumni.
Rumblings the last few days were that Ravens LB CJ Mosley could wind up getting around $16 million per. Turned down a good offer in Baltimore.

With Kwon Alexander getting $13.5 million, that doesn't seem out of whack.
