The Redskins and Giants put on a pretty entertaining show Sunday afternoon in Landover, MD. Many dubbed this the Chase Young sweepstakes game, but neither team looked like they were out to lose this contest.
The Redskins fought back minus their starting quarterback Dwayne Haskins, who left the contest with a high ankle sprain, but fell short in overtime after interim head coach Bill Callahan decided not to go for two after tying the game late in the forth quarter.
The Redskins now hold the second overall pick in the 2020 draft with one game left to play against the Cowboys.
Below are my Studs and Duds of the game followed by some notes.
Studs:
Dwayne Haskins Jr. - Haskins was on fire before leaving the game early in the third quarter with a high ankle sprain he took on a low hit while in the pocket. He was 12-15 for 133 yards and two touchdowns before his exit. Haskins was VERY good over his last six quarters of football, completing 74% of his passes, for 394 yards and four touchdowns. He’s thrown seven touchdowns versus just three interceptions while completing over 60% of his passes in his seven starts this season.
Man this is just BEAUTIFUL! We have something special with Haskins! pic.twitter.com/LqQAop9zGf

Steven Sims Jr. - Sims is like a human joystick with the ball in his hands(no offense KJ Hamler). He caught six passes for 64 yards and two touchdowns. He would have had at least one more touchdown if Keenum didn’t overthrow him on a deep route later in the game.
SICK route here by Sims Jr.! pic.twitter.com/TbJHURYhVF

Adrian Peterson - The old man had just 36 yards on 15 carries, but his lone touchdown of the afternoon put him in sole place of number four all-time in rushing touchdowns.
All effort by the “old man” here! pic.twitter.com/U41TIsF4i0

Montez Sweat - No one knows WHY Greg Manusky is dropping rookie Montez Sweat into coverage so much, but the youngster is responding.
I don’t like Sweat in coverage any more than you do, but this is the second time this game I saw him play the flats extremely well! pic.twitter.com/c8zBDmb0Z4

Very odd defensive formation here with Sweat lined up 5x7 to the EMOLS and in coverage...but, he plays it well! pic.twitter.com/tFEBsMfUnf

Duds:
Geron Christian - Christian came in for an injured Morgan Moses in the third quarter, and despite fans begging to see more of him as the dreadful season wore on, I literally had to close my eyes when he was out there. He actually made Moses look like an All-Pro...and that’s hard to do. He’s just not ready, and who knows if he ever will be.
Another DL stunt by the Giants. Christian needs to re-set on this play. He and Martin need to be shoulder to shoulder when passing this off. pic.twitter.com/Q7rm9XS3IK

This is a walk-in TD if Christian just attempts to block his man. Moreover, he holds not once, but twice! pic.twitter.com/7mp0Yb0bbx

Cole Holcomb - The rookie linebacker has regressed a bit over his last 4 games. Sunday’s game may have been one of his worst efforts all season. The potential is there but he’s got a LOT of growing to do in the offseason.
Holcomb gets absolutely pummeled by a TE here. This was one of his biggest issues coming into the league - getting off blocks and playing at the POA.

He did not do a good job at either on Sunday. pic.twitter.com/Q06nfVSxmk
Not sure why Holcomb is not carrying the TE here. Collins seems to have the RB. pic.twitter.com/YBXgT2i161

The Entire Redskins Secondary - There is not one player in the secondary that I can honestly say played well. I get we were literally starting guys off the street...but man it was bad!
It’s fair to say the Redskins have communication issues on the back end! pic.twitter.com/sYss92rmjM

Notes:
- Ereck Flowers continues to do Ereck Flower type things!
Just LOVE this work by Ereck Flowers here!

He sees Penn is beaten badly on the inside swim move and comes back to help protect his QB and give Dwayne room to step into his throw and complete the pass. pic.twitter.com/bmJqc5mMiY
My gawd Flowers is a strong man! He can see AND feel Penn does not pick up this stunt and essentially blocks both defenders here...with one arm each! pic.twitter.com/VeJfqcZQnC

- Shaun Dion Hamilton may have the best recognition and reaction skills of all our linebackers. He played well in limited snaps.
Jones’ first read was going to Barkley, but Dion Hamilton takes that away, then come up to make the tackle on Tate after his teammates miss pic.twitter.com/PokxqSmfIT

- Wes Martin improved on his performance from last week and had himself a very solid game.
Tough stunt to pick up here, but this one is on the rookie Martin.

This is the play where Moses gets hurt. You can see where he takes pressure of his left foot after he steps on Williams’ foot and all TD weight in on the right leg causing the knee to buckle. pic.twitter.com/1m8gILjzuO
- Kelvin Harmon is getting better and better each week. He had five catches for 58 yards on the afternoon.
Yeah, Harmon is a DUDE! pic.twitter.com/F9xfpLDWWW

Happy Holidays to all my fellow Redskins family! May Santa Dan bring us all what we’ve been wishing for...the removal of Bruce Allen!
HTTR!
