Bill Callahan gave a longer presser than yesterday's short and terse post-game flyby. He praised the young players who have stepped up, talked about Dwayne Haskins Jr.'s progress, and have some injury/roster updates.

We were so close:
Interim head coach Bill Callahan at the podium.
— Zach Selby (@DarDarBinx61) December 16, 2019
Callahan thought the #Redskins were "so close" yesterday and it hit him hard. He wanted the players to get that win, especially with it being against the Eagles. #HTTR
Callahan on yesterday’s presser and his mood:
— Craig Hoffman (@CraigHoffman) December 16, 2019
“I’m emotionally built...We were so close. It hit hard. It’s not about me and my ego. I wanted it so bad for our players.”
Callahan said he’s watched the loss five times already.

Young players:
Callahan on Redskins young players- “The future is bright for those guys.”
— JP Finlay (@JPFinlayNBCS) December 16, 2019
Lots of "What if" thoughts for Callahan since the loss. Said he's looked back at the game probably five times from all angles.
— Ben Standig (@BenStandig) December 16, 2019
Positive: That so many young players were in action, received taste of NFC East action.
Bill says the thing that he thinks about most with yesterday is how many young guys were out there. Says there were 9 rookies or 2nd year players.
— Craig Hoffman (@CraigHoffman) December 16, 2019
Those guys played well, while also learning that if you’re not fully locked in for 60 mins that it’s not enough for a division game
Dwayne Haskins Jr.:
Callahan was impressed with Haskins being able to respond multiple times after the Eagles retook the lead. "That shows a real sign of growth and maturity."
— Kyle Stackpole (@kylefstackpole) December 16, 2019
Callahan sounded really impressed with Haskins. He liked the way he was able to get the ball out quickly and respond with touchdowns.
— Matthew Paras (@Matthew_Paras) December 16, 2019
Callahan says he was really impressed with Haskins yesterday. They went back to Day 1 West Coast progressions and that meant faster progressions and Dwayne got the ball out quickly.
— Craig Hoffman (@CraigHoffman) December 16, 2019
Also impressed with him continually responding to Eagles scores.
Callahan said they used a lot of “day one west coast” installs to help Dwayne Haskins get through his progressions faster. That in turn helped keep the Eagles pass rush from getting to him. He wasn’t sacked.
— John Keim (@john_keim) December 16, 2019
Bill Callahan talking about three-step drops & slants being success to Dwayne Haskins best game. Something Jay Gruden just did not believe enough in. The quick/easy pass game is what I want. Not the constant complicated & complex route tree. #Redskins

Pass interference challenge:
Callahan said he knows it’s hard to win a pass interference challenge but that yesterday’s play “was worth a shot”
— JP Finlay (@JPFinlayNBCS) December 16, 2019
Callahan said yesterday's pass interference challenge wasn't clear to him. Was a difficult call either way, but it was worth a shot. #Redskins
— Zach Selby (@DarDarBinx61) December 16, 2019
Wes Martin:
Callahan said a "real positive" was rookie G Wes Martin filling in for Brandon Scherff.
— Kyle Stackpole (@kylefstackpole) December 16, 2019
Thought he "fared pretty well" against the Eagles' elite defensive front.
Interesting. Callahan said the Redskins had been practicing Wes Martin as a center over the last few weeks because Bergstrom had been the swing tackle.
— Matthew Paras (@Matthew_Paras) December 16, 2019
Ryan Anderson:
Callahan extremely proud of Ryan Anderson’s performance vs Eagles. “He’s taking his game to a different level”
— JP Finlay (@JPFinlayNBCS) December 16, 2019
Brandon Scherff:
Redskins guard Brandon Scherff is in New York getting his elbow and shoulder evaluated by a specialist. He missed Sunday’s game.
— JP Finlay (@JPFinlayNBCS) December 16, 2019
Danny Johnson:
Callahan remembers one of the first times he saw Danny Johnson on the field and guarding @TheTerry_25 in practice and was really impressed with the way he was able to cover McLaurin. Johnson had 10 tackles yesterday and nine solo tackles. #Redskins #HTTR
— Zach Selby (@DarDarBinx61) December 16, 2019
Brandon Scherff with a specialist in NY because of shoulder and elbow injuries.
— Ben Standig (@BenStandig) December 16, 2019
Paul Richardson Jr.:
Callahan said Paul Richardson had a setback with his recovery from a hamstring injury, which forced them to place him on Injured Reserve. It's an unfortunate end to his season, considering he added another dimension to the #Redskins offense when he was in there. #HTTR
— Zach Selby (@DarDarBinx61) December 16, 2019
Timon Parris:
Callahan says that Indy called on Friday on T Timon Paris from the Skins practice squad. They had already been considering IR for Richardson and keeping Paris pushed them over the edge, so they made the move.
— Craig Hoffman (@CraigHoffman) December 16, 2019
Callahan said the Colts wanted to poach Timon Parris from the practice squad which led to the Redskins placing Paul Richardson on IR. He said the Redskins believe in Parris’s potential and did not want to lose him.
