Amazon's Jeff Bezos wants to own an NFL team, and he could help Dan Snyder get a new stadium

I know a team that should be sold...

Update: The Redskins have issued the following statement denying everything in La Canfora's article:

“The franchise is not for sale and there is no truth behind the suggestion that Bezos could partner with Mr. Snyder on efforts to build a new stadium or buy a stake in the team,” a Redskins spokesman told FOX Business. “Mr. Snyder hasn’t seen Jeff Bezos in nearly a decade.”

Jason La Canfora reports that Amazon's Jeff Bezos is interested in owning an NFL team, and other owners are all for it. Bezos has the support of Dallas Cowboys owner Jerry Jones, and has strong ties to Washington Redskins owner Dan Snyder.

As La Canfora mentions in the article, there aren't any teams currently available for sale. The Seattle Seahawks will likely be sold soon following the death of owner Paul Allen. The NFL is also concerned with various lawsuits regarding ownership of the Denver Broncos.

Bezos bought the Washington Post in 2013, and is setting up an Amazon hub in the area. La Canfora mentions that Bezos could be helping Snyder get the new stadium he's been wanting for years, possibly with an Amazon sponsorship.

Sell The Team

The hopeful fan in me and many other people reads this story and instantly hopes that Bezos would instead love to stay in the DMV permanently and make Snyder an offer he can't refuse for the Redskins. This is probably the most hope we will get this season, even if the chances of this happening are pretty slim.

The last NFL team to be sold was the Carolina Panthers after previous owner Jerry Richardson was forced to sell by the league. David Tepper bought the team for $2.275 billion even though there was another bid of $2.6 billion from another potential buyer.

The Redskins are one of the most valuable sports franchises in the world, and were valued at $3.4 billion this year by Forbes(7th most valuable in the NFL). Snyder bought the team for ~$800 million in 1999, and has had money rolling in for years because of it. What would it take for Snyder to sell? $3 billion? $4 billion? more? The Cowboys are currently valued at $5.5 billion would Bezos have to offer more than Dan's idol Jerry's team is worth? I hope we find out!
