The 5 O’Clock Club - Brandon Scherff: “I want to stay here. I want to be a Redskin for the rest of my career”

J.P. Finlay from NBC Sports Washington sat down to speak with Brandon Scherff this week. It is an interesting interview that you can watch on video or read as a ‘transcript’ article.

I was really interested in the pair of questions that came in the middle:

JP: Contract, because I imagine you’re going to dismiss this quickly. Any updates? Has there been any progress between you and the Redskins?

Brandon: No, no updates. I think I’m going to wait until the end of the season to talk. I’m not really focused on that right now. It’s going to be a big part of our life in the offseason. But I want to stay here. I want to be a Redskin for the rest of my career.

JP: Have you talked to Kirk about being tagged and how that feels?

Brandon: No, I don’t like to talk about that with anybody. Contracts are contracts and you kind of just leave it at that.

Fans have been twitchy about the lack of any reported progress between Scherff and the Redskins. Early on, there was a lot of criticism of the front office for not getting the team’s #5 overall pick from the 2015 draft locked down with an extension.

As the season has progressed, however, there has been increased criticism of Scherff’s play, and more and more commentary from fans who question now whether Scherff is worth the amount of money the team will need to pay to keep him.
