The Daily Twitter will be posted at the beginning of every day (at midnight in Washington, DC). The goal is to give readers a handy spot to check the Redskins beat writers & bloggers, and national sports journalists to keep up on the latest news about the Redskins, the NFL, and sports in general, along with a smattering of other things.

— Roberto Shenanigans (@Rob_Shenanigans) October 15, 2019
They run a very tight ship over there. I guess I'll have to start taking screen shots of their "breaking news" tweets.
UPDATE: Redskins officials "emphatically insist" that Trent Williams is not headed to the Cleveland Browns, according to Washington Post reporter Les Carpenter. Williams, who is fighting for a new contract, has not yet played a game in 2019. https://t.co/20zbKQYXK7

Here is Steve’s tweet just before we traded for OBJ. He used the word soon in that one as well. I hope Steve is “soon” 2 for 2 on calling these big trades! pic.twitter.com/ArS3mdHWMp

#Browns dealt their 2019 1 for OBJ, John Dorsey doesn’t seem inclined to move their 2020 1st rounder from what I’ve heard.

Going back to training camp, Erik Flowers was supposed to be a weak link on the O-line. Instead he has turned out to become a solid starter who has gotten better in a new role at guard. #Redskins

Fun things I learned today on #Redskins twitter.
— George Carmi (@Gcarmi21) October 15, 2019
- Mike Tomlin will be a bad coach because he trips people
- The Dolphins are better than we think
- "Stats don't matter"
- We are going to run down the throat of the 49ers
I disagree with these statements, so I'm depressed.
And again...some people just don’t get it https://t.co/X8mojs7EYx

Through 6 weeks Terry McLaurin’s ranking among rookies with at least 10 receptions:

Receptions: 1st(23)
Yards: 1st(408)
Yards per Reception: 4th(17.7)
Yards per game: 1st(81.6)
Touchdowns: 1st(5)
Receptions of 20+: 1st(8)
First Downs: 1st(20)
Absolute stud, and a steal.

The #Redskins do in fact have a top NFL corner, and his name is Quinton Dunbar https://t.co/4fdGDhkGli
— Pete Hailey (@PeteHaileyNBCS) October 15, 2019
I haven't seen many people talking about him, but #Redskins LB Shaun-Dion Hamilton quietly had the best game of his career.
— Nick Akridge (@PFF_NickAkridge) October 14, 2019
He had a 92.4 overall grade and this beautiful pick. His ability to break on the ball and finish with the interception is next level. #HTTR pic.twitter.com/H9ZV8Z645Y
Watch McLaurin’s turn and acceleration out of the cut. Sells the route and a fast guy kept a little extra in reserve. Head fake sells it and speed finishes. Savvy. Also example run set and play fake helping. pic.twitter.com/TvxTPSH4CH
— John Keim (@john_keim) October 14, 2019
Landon Collins had a couple of big plays for the #Redskins this week. First was a sack. Came on a safety blitz vs Dolphins PA fake. RB attempts to pick him up off the fake, Collins catches him lunging and skips by him before chasing down Rosen for the sack. pic.twitter.com/yJCuHSXvPu
— Mark Bullock (@MarkBullockNFL) October 15, 2019
Daron Payne is so stout against the run. 3rd and 2, Dolphins try to double team him with the LG and LT. Payne withstands the double team, hardly giving up any ground as he breaks through it to make the tackle on the RB. Impressive play #Redskins pic.twitter.com/WeYMNYuUIw

Pointed this out during the game. In slo-mo it looks worse. Just whiffed. https://t.co/VSf4rcLRoS

FWIW: The Dolphins Defense allowed 40 PPG and the #Redskins offense went 2/12 on 3rd downs against them.
— George Carmi (@Gcarmi21) October 14, 2019
If the Dolphins called a legitimate play on the 2-point conversion (or if Fitzgerald played the entire game) we would have lost.

Redskins signed FB Michael Burton and placed TE Jerome Cunningham on the reserve/injured list, per team.
Hearing Trent Williams should be on Browns roster quite soon.
— Steve Doerschuk (@sdoerschukREP) October 15, 2019
Redskins officials met with Trent Williams about three weeks ago. My understanding is they didn’t change Trent’s mind about coming back. Maybe feelings were softened the other way though?
— michael phillips (@michaelpRTD) October 15, 2019
Just know: Bruce Allen makes the deals. And he’s surprised some there before. Why I added “to their knowledge”. But only can go by what I’m told/hear. if something happens would be a surprise to many.
— John Keim (@john_keim) October 15, 2019
If the #Redskins do trade Trent, personally I think they waited too long. Are they going to get top value now for the Pro Bowl and future Hall of Fame tackle?
— Lake Lewis Jr (@LakeLewis) October 15, 2019
Cooley: “I think they expect Alex Smith to come back and at least give an attempt to play.” (Next year).
— Redskins Realm (@SkinsRealm) October 15, 2019
Okay, so the contracts of both Keenum & McCoy expire this year.
— TheHogSty (@TheHogSty) October 15, 2019
Alex Smith's deal runs through '22 & has a huge amount of dead money through '20.
Are we looking at a situation where the 2020 QB room is Smith & Haskins? Would the tm dare start Smith over Haskins next year?
Print your playoff tickets baby!!! The #Redskins are only two games out of first place in the NFC East.

On the culture in Ashburn. "I don't think the culture is bad at all, quite frankly." Starts ticking off the names of players. @Stugotz790 interrupts him to shift culture talk to Bruce Allen. "Yeah, I can't say anything negative about the culture right now."
— Ben Standig (@BenStandig) October 15, 2019
The #Redskins have signed T Victor Salako and DB Maurice Smith to the practice squad.

There were six really ugly passing performances in week 6, and all came from high draft picks, including 4 players drafted in the top 2 https://t.co/AwtzAxcVBG
— Football Perspective (@fbgchase) October 15, 2019
4 major blown calls tonight , all four went against the Lions. DB going for the INT called for Unnecessary Roughness. A non call on a blatant DPI . Then two ridiculous calls for hands to the face. Refs can’t guess and can’t get these wrong. Lions would’ve won by 2 scores @NFL
— Jack Del Rio (@coachdelrio) October 15, 2019
So twice tonight they called Trey Flowers for illegal hands to the shoulder sort of near the face?
— Aaron Schatz (@FO_ASchatz) October 15, 2019

— NFL Officiating (@NFLOfficiating) October 15, 2019
Here's what incompetence in officiating does: It gets people thinking that the league may be getting back at Lions coach Matt Patricia for wearing the Goodell clown nose T-shirt after Super Bowl LI. While extremely unlikely, horrible calls open the door to conspiracy theories.
— ProFootballTalk (@ProFootballTalk) October 15, 2019
NFL officiating is so consistently bad. Jerry Jones used to argue with me that human error among refs is good for the game because it creates day-after controversy and conversation and increases interest. Maybe so. But I'd rather talk about great plays than bad calls.
— Skip Bayless (@RealSkipBayless) October 15, 2019
Not sure what a DB is supposed to do. Need a common sense application to some of these rules. Too often the day after games are filled with complaints about officiating. That’s an issue. https://t.co/9F5OBF8l7K
— John Keim (@john_keim) October 15, 2019
The officials flagged the Lions for lining up with 12 players, leading to a Packers touchdown. On the very next drive, the officials didn't flag the Packers for lining up with 13 players https://t.co/v4lrxa34Wk

NFL penalties per game
— Paul Hembekides (@PaulHembo) October 15, 2019
2019 (18.3)
2018 (15.9)
2017 (15.8)
2016 (15.8)
Who decided we needed more?
Ten years ago the NFL averaged 11.8 penalties for 97.3 yards per game. Five years ago the averages were 13.2 penalties for 111.1 yards. This season NFL games average 14.9 penalties for 124.5 yards. The more the flags, the worse the game.
